1Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, and he was the son of a prostitute: and Gilead became the father of Jephthah.
1 Yr oedd Jefftha, brodor o Gilead, yn u373?r dewr; yr oedd yn fab i butain, a Gilead oedd ei dad.
2Gilead’s wife bore him sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove out Jephthah, and said to him, “You shall not inherit in our father’s house; for you are the son of another woman.”
2 Yr oedd gan wraig Gilead hefyd feibion, ac wedi iddynt dyfu, gyrasant Jefftha allan a dweud wrtho, "Ni chei di etifeddiaeth yn nhu375? ein tad, oherwydd mab i wraig estron wyt ti."
3Then Jephthah fled from his brothers, and lived in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain fellows to Jephthah, and they went out with him.
3 Ciliodd Jefftha oddi wrth ei frodyr, a mynd i fyw i wlad Tob, lle casglodd ato nifer o wu375?r ofer a oedd yn ei ddilyn.
4It happened after a while, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
4 Ymhen amser aeth yr Ammoniaid i ryfela yn erbyn yr Israeliaid.
5It was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah out of the land of Tob;
5 A phan ddechreuodd y brwydro rhwng yr Ammoniaid ac Israel, aeth henuriaid Gilead i gyrchu Jefftha o wlad Tob,
6and they said to Jephthah, “Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.”
6 a dweud wrtho, "Tyrd, bydd di'n arweinydd inni, er mwyn inni ymladd 'r Ammoniaid."
7Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Didn’t you hate me, and drive me out of my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?”
7 Ond dywedodd Jefftha wrth henuriaid Gilead, "Onid chwi oedd yn fy nghasu ac yn fy ngyrru o du375? fy nhad? Pam y dewch ataf fi yn awr pan yw'n gyfyng arnoch?"
8The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “Therefore we have turned again to you now, that you may go with us, and fight with the children of Ammon; and you shall be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
8 Ac meddent hwythau wrtho, "Dyna pam y daethom atat yn awr. Tyrd yn l gyda ni ac ymladd 'r Ammoniaid, a chei fod yn ben ar holl drigolion Gilead."
9Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you bring me home again to fight with the children of Ammon, and Yahweh deliver them before me, shall I be your head?”
9 Dywedodd Jefftha wrth henuriaid Gilead, "Os byddwch yn fy nghymryd yn l i ymladd 'r Ammoniaid, a'r ARGLWYDD yn eu rhoi yn fy llaw, yna byddaf yn ben arnoch."
10The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “Yahweh shall be witness between us; surely according to your word so will we do.”
10 Dywedodd henuriaid Gilead wrth Jefftha, "Bydd yr ARGLWYDD yn dyst rhyngom y gwnawn yn l dy air."
11Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them: and Jephthah spoke all his words before Yahweh in Mizpah.
11 Aeth Jefftha gyda henuriaid Gilead, a gwnaeth y fyddin ef yn ben ac yn arweinydd arnynt, ac adroddodd Jefftha gerbron yr ARGLWYDD yn Mispa bopeth yr oedd wedi ei gytuno.
12Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, “What have you to do with me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?”
12 Anfonodd Jefftha negeswyr at frenin yr Ammoniaid a dweud, "Beth sydd gennyt yn f'erbyn, dy fod wedi dod i ymosod ar fy ngwlad?"
13The king of the children of Ammon answered to the messengers of Jephthah, “Because Israel took away my land, when he came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and to the Jordan: now therefore restore that territory again peaceably.”
13 Dywedodd brenin yr Ammoniaid wrth negeswyr Jefftha, "Pan ddaeth Israel i fyny o'r Aifft, meddiannodd fy ngwlad rhwng nentydd Arnon a Jabboc, hyd at yr Iorddonen; felly dyro hi'n l yn awr yn heddychol."
14Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon;
14 Anfonodd Jefftha negeswyr eto at frenin yr Ammoniaid
15and he said to him, “Thus says Jephthah: Israel didn’t take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon,
15 i ddweud wrtho, "Dyma a ddywed Jefftha: 'Ni chymerodd Israel dir Moab na thir yr Ammoniaid;
16but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , and came to Kadesh;
16 oherwydd pan ddaethant i fyny o'r Aifft, fe aeth Israel trwy'r anialwch hyd at y Mr Coch nes dod i Cades.
17then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Please let me pass through your land;’ but the king of Edom didn’t listen. In the same way, he sent to the king of Moab; but he would not: and Israel stayed in Kadesh.
17 Yna fe anfonodd Israel negeswyr at frenin Edom a dweud, "Gad imi fynd trwy dy dir di"; ond ni wrandawai brenin Edom. Wedyn anfonwyd at frenin Moab, ac nid oedd ef yn fodlon; felly arhosodd Israel yn Cades.
18Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped on the other side of the Arnon; but they didn’t come within the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.
18 Yna aethant drwy'r anialwch i fynd heibio i dir Edom a thir Moab o'r tu dwyrain i wlad Moab, a gwersyllu y tu hwnt i nant Arnon, heb groesi terfyn Moab, oherwydd nant Arnon yw terfyn Moab.
19Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, ‘Please let us pass through your land to my place.’
19 Anfonodd Israel negeswyr hefyd at frenin yr Amoriaid, Sihon brenin Hesbon, a dweud wrtho, "Gad imi groesi dy dir i'm lle fy hun."
20But Sihon didn’t trust Israel to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
20 Eto nid ymddiriedai Sihon yn Israel, iddi groesi ei ffin, ond casglodd ei holl fyddin a gwersyllu yn Jahas ac ymladd yn erbyn Israel.
21Yahweh, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they struck them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
21 Rhoddodd yr ARGLWYDD, Duw Israel, Sihon a'i holl fyddin yn llaw Israel, ac fe'u lladdwyd; a meddiannodd Israel holl dir yr Amoriaid oedd yn byw yn yr ardal honno.
22They possessed all the border of the Amorites, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and from the wilderness even to the Jordan.
22 Daethant i feddiannu holl derfynau'r Amoriaid o nant Arnon hyd nant Jabboc, ac o'r anialwch hyd yr Iorddonen.
23So now Yahweh, the God of Israel, has dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and should you possess them?
23 Yr ARGLWYDD, Duw Israel, a yrrodd yr Amoriaid allan o flaen ei bobl Israel. A wyt ti'n awr am ei feddiannu?
24Won’t you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whoever Yahweh our God has dispossessed from before us, them will we possess.
24 Onid yr hyn y bydd dy dduw Cemos yn ei roi'n feddiant iti yr wyt ti i'w feddiannu? Yn yr un modd meddiannwn ninnau'r cyfan y bydd yr ARGLWYDD ein Duw yn ei roi'n feddiant i ninnau.
25Now are you anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them?
25 Ac yn awr, a wyt ti rywfaint gwell na Balac fab Sippor, brenin Moab? A fu ef yn ymryson o gwbl ag Israel, neu'n ymladd erioed yn eu herbyn?
26While Israel lived in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along by the side of the Arnon, three hundred years; why didn’t you recover them within that time?
26 Bu Israel yn byw yn Hesbon ac Aroer a'u maestrefi, ac yn yr holl drefi sydd ar lannau'r afon, am dri chan mlynedd; pam na fyddech wedi eu hadennill yn ystod y cyfnod hwnnw?
27I therefore have not sinned against you, but you do me wrong to war against me. Yahweh, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.”
27 Nid myfi sydd wedi pechu yn d'erbyn, ond ti sy'n gwneud cam mi wrth ddod i ryfela yn f'erbyn. Y mae'r ARGLWYDD yn farnwr; barned ef heddiw rhwng Israel a'r Ammoniaid.'"
28However the king of the children of Ammon didn’t listen to the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
28 Ond ni wrandawodd brenin yr Ammoniaid ar y neges a anfonodd Jefftha ato.
29Then the Spirit of Yahweh came on Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over to the children of Ammon.
29 Daeth ysbryd yr ARGLWYDD ar Jefftha, ac aeth trwy Gilead a Manasse a thrwy Mispe Gilead, ac oddi yno drosodd at yr Ammoniaid.
30Jephthah vowed a vow to Yahweh, and said, “If you will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,
30 A gwnaeth Jefftha adduned i'r ARGLWYDD a dweud, "Os rhoi di'r Ammoniaid yn fy llaw,
31then it shall be, that whatever comes forth from the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, it shall be Yahweh’s, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.”
31 beth bynnag a ddaw allan o ddrws fy nhu375? i'm cyfarfod wrth imi ddychwelyd yn ddiogel oddi wrth yr Ammoniaid, bydd yn eiddo i'r ARGLWYDD, ac offrymaf ef yn boethoffrwm."
32So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Yahweh delivered them into his hand.
32 A phan aeth Jefftha i frwydro yn erbyn yr Ammoniaid, fe roddodd yr ARGLWYDD hwy yn llaw Jefftha,
33He struck them from Aroer until you come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to Abelcheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
33 a goresgynnodd hwy'n llwyr, o Aroer hyd gyffiniau Minnith ugain tref, gan gynnwys Abel-ceramim; felly darostyngwyd yr Ammoniaid gan yr Israeliaid.
34Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house; and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances: and she was his only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter.
34 Pan gyrhaeddodd Jefftha ei gartref yn Mispa, daeth ei ferch allan i'w gyfarfod thympanau a dawnsiau. Hi oedd ei unig blentyn; nid oedd ganddo fab na merch ar wahn iddi hi.
35It happened, when he saw her, that he tore his clothes, and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you are one of those who trouble me; for I have opened my mouth to Yahweh, and I can’t go back.”
35 A phan welodd ef hi, rhwygodd ei wisg, a dweud, "Gwae fi, fy merch! Yr wyt ti wedi fy nryllio'n llwyr, a thi yw achos fy nhrallod. Gwneuthum addewid i'r ARGLWYDD, ac ni allaf ei thorri."
36She said to him, “My father, you have opened your mouth to Yahweh; do to me according to that which has proceeded out of your mouth, because Yahweh has taken vengeance for you on your enemies, even on the children of Ammon.”
36 Ac meddai hithau wrtho, "Fy nhad, yr wyt wedi gwneud addewid i'r ARGLWYDD; gwna imi fel yr addewaist, wedi i'r ARGLWYDD sicrhau iti ddialedd ar dy elynion, yr Ammoniaid."
37She said to her father, “Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may depart and go down on the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.”
37 Ychwanegodd, "Caniat un peth i mi; rho imi ysbaid o ddeufis i grwydro'r mynyddoedd ac i wylo am fy morwyndod gyda'm ffrindiau."
38He said, “Go.” He sent her away for two months: and she departed, she and her companions, and mourned her virginity on the mountains.
38 Dywedodd yntau, "Ie, dos." Gadawodd iddi fynd am ddeufis; ac aeth hithau a'i ffrindiau i wylo am ei morwyndod ar y mynyddoedd.
39It happened at the end of two months, that she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she was a virgin. It was a custom in Israel,
39 Ar derfyn y deufis, daeth yn l at ei thad, a gwnaeth yntau iddi yn l yr adduned a dyngodd. Nid oedd hi wedi cael cyfathrach gu373?r. A daeth hyn yn ddefod yn Israel,
40that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
40 bod merched Israel yn mynd allan bob blwyddyn i alaru am ferch Jefftha o Gilead am bedwar diwrnod yn y flwyddyn.
