1But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.
1Men om Tid og Time, Brødre! have I ikke nødig, at der skrives til eder;
2For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
2thi I vide selv grant, at Herrens Dag kommer som en Tyv om Natten.
3For when they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.
3Når de sige: "Fred og ingen Fare!" da kommer Undergang pludselig, over dem ligesom Veerne over den frugtsommelige, og de skulle ingenlunde undfly.
4But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
4Men I, Brødre! I ere ikke i Mørke, så at Dagen skulde overraske eder som en Tyv.
5You are all children of light, and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,
5Thi I ere alle Lysets Børn og Dagens Børn, vi ere ikke Nattens eller Mørkets Børn.
6so then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober.
6Så lader os da ikke sove ligesom de andre, men lader os våge og være ædrue!
7For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.
7Thi de, som sove, sove om Natten, og de, som beruse sig, ere berusede om Natten.
8But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
8Men da vi høre Dagen til, så lader os være ædrue, iførte Troens og Kærlighedens Panser og Frelsens Håb som Hjelm!
9For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
9Thi Gud bestemte os ikke til Vrede, men til at vinde Frelse ved vor Herre Jesus Kristus,
10who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
10som døde for os, for at vi, hvad enten vi våge eller sove, skulle leve sammen med ham.
11Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.
11Formaner derfor hverandre og opbygger den ene den anden, ligesom I også gøre.
12But we beg you, brothers, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you,
12Men vi bede eder, Brødre! at I skønne på dem, som arbejde iblandt eder og ere eders Forstandere i Herren og påminde eder,
13and to respect and honor them in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
13og agte dem højlig i Kærlighed for deres Gernings Skyld. Holder Fred med hverandre!
14We exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.
14Og vi formane eder, Brødre! påminder de uskikkelige, trøster de modfaldne, tager eder af de skrøbelige, værer langmodige imod alle!
15See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always follow after that which is good, for one another, and for all.
15Ser til, at ingen gengælder nogen ondt med ondt; men stræber altid efter det gode, både imod hverandre og imod alle.
16Rejoice always.
16Værer altid glade,
17Pray without ceasing.
17beder uafladelig,
18In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.
18takker i alle Forhold; thi dette er Guds Villie med eder i Kristus Jesus.
19Don’t quench the Spirit.
19Udslukker ikke Ånden,
20Don’t despise prophesies.
20ringeagter ikke Profetier,
21Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.
21prøver alt, beholder det gode!
22Abstain from every form of evil.
22Holder eder fra det onde under alle Skikkelser!
23May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
23Men han selv, Fredens Gud, helliggøre eder ganske og aldeles, og gid eders Ånd og Sjæl og Legeme må bevares helt og holdent, uden Dadel i vor Herres Jesu Kristi Tilkommelse!
24He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
24Trofast er han, som kaldte eder, han skal også gøre det.
25Brothers, pray for us.
25Brødre! beder for os!
26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
26Hilser alle Brødrene med et helligt Kys!
27I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.
27Jeg besværger eder ved Herren, at dette Brev må blive oplæst for alle de hellige Brødre.
