¹Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.

¹فلسطینی ها بر اسرائیل حمله کردند و آن ها را شکست دادند. بسیاری از سپاه اسرائیل در سراشیبی کوه جِلبوع به دست فلسطینی ها کشته شدند.

²The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

²بعد فلسطینی ها به تعقیب شائول و پسرانش رفتند. سه پسر شائول، یعنی یُوناتان، اَبِیناداب و مَلکیشوع را کشتند.

³The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.

³جنگ بر شائول بسیار فشار آورد و شدیدتر شد. تیراندازان فلسطینی ها به او رسیدند و او را زخمی کردند.

⁴Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.

⁴آنگاه شائول به سلاح بردار خود گفت: «زود شو، با شمشیرت مرا بکش، مبادا به دست این مردم بیگانه بیفتم و آن ها مرا خوار و بیحرمت کنند.» اما سلاح بردارش از ترس آن کار را نکرد. پس شائول شمشیر را گرفت، بر آن افتاد و شمشیر به شکمش فرورفت.

⁵When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died.

⁵چون سلاح بردار دید که شائول مُرده است او هم خود را با شمشیر کشت.

⁶So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

⁶به این ترتیب، شائول، سه پسر و همه اهل خانواده اش یکجا کشته شدند.

⁷When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.

⁷وقتی مردم اسرائیل که در وادی یِزرعیل بودند، خبر شدند که سپاه شان شکست خورده و شائول و پسرانش هم کشته شده اند، شهرهای خود را ترک نموده پا به فرار گذاشتند. بعد فلسطینی ها آمدند و شهرهای شان را اشغال کردند.

⁸It happened on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

⁸فردای آن وقتیکه فلسطینی ها برای تاراج کردن دارائی اجساد کشته شدگان آمدند، شائول و پسرانش را در کوه جِلبوع مُرده یافتند.

⁹They stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to their idols, and to the people.

⁹آن ها او را غارت کردند و سر و اسلحه اش را گرفته آن ها را در سرتاسر کشور خود برای نمایش فرستادند و برای بتها و مردم خود مژده دادند.

¹⁰They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

¹⁰اسلحۀ شائول را در بتخانه قرار دادند و سرش را در معبد داجون آویزان کردند.

¹¹When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹¹وقتی مردم یابیش جلعاد از کاریکه فلسطینی ها در حق شائول کرده بودند، خبر شدند،

¹²all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹²مردان جنگی و دلاور شان رفتند و جنازه شائول و پسرانش را به یابیش آوردند. بعد استخوان های آن ها را در زیر یک درخت بلوط، در یابیش دفن کردند و برای هفت روز روزه گرفتند.

¹³So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of the word of Yahweh, which he didn’t keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,

¹³شائول بخاطری کشته شد که در مقابل خداوند گناه ورزید و از کلام خداوند اطاعت نکرد. او برعکس، برای کمک و مشوره متوسل به واسطه و اجنه شدو از خداوند هدایت و راهنمائی نخواست، بنابران، خداوند او را کشت و سلطنت او را به داود، پسر یِسی داد.

¹⁴and didn’t inquire of Yahweh: therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.

¹⁴و از خداوند هدایت و راهنمائی نخواست، بنابران، خداوند او را کشت و سلطنت او را به داود، پسر یِسی داد.
