¹It happened after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

¹نابوت، باشندۀ یِزرعیل تاکستانی در پهلوی قصر اخاب، پادشاه سامره داشت.

²Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near to my house; and I will give you for it a better vineyard than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money.”

²روزی اخاب به نابوت گفت: «تاکستانت را به من بده تا در آن سبزیجات بکارم، زیرا پهلوی قصر من است و من بعوض آن تاکستان بهتری بتو می دهم و یا اگر بخواهی قیمت آنرا برایت می پردازم.»

³Naboth said to Ahab, “May Yahweh forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!”

³اما نابوت به اخاب جواب داد: «خداوند روا نمی‌دارد که من نشانی و میراث پدران خود را به تو بدهم.»

⁴Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

⁴اخاب از جوابی که نابوت به او داد پریشان و غمگین به قصر خود رفت، بر بستر خود دراز کشید و روی خود را بطرف دیوار کرد و چیزی نخورد.

⁵But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, “Why is your spirit so sad, that you eat no bread?”

⁵زنش، ایزابل پیش او آمد و پرسید: «چرا اینچنین غمگین و پریشان هستی و چیزی نمی خوری؟»

⁶He said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ He answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’”

⁶اخاب جواب داد: «بخاطریکه به نابوت یِزرعیلی گفتم که تاکستانش را به من بدهد و من بعوض آن تاکستان بهتری برایش می دهم. اما او گفت که هرگز تاکستان را به من نمی دهد.»

⁷Jezebel his wife said to him, “Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”

⁷زنش به او گفت: «تو پادشاه اسرائیل هستی یا نه؟ برخیز و یک چیزی بخور و غمگین نباش. من تاکستان نابوت را به تو می دهم.»

⁸So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, who lived with Naboth.

⁸پس ایزابل نامه ای از طرف اخاب نوشت و آنرا با مُهر او امضاء کرد و برای بزرگان و اشراف شهریکه نابوت در آن زندگی می کرد فرستاد.

⁹She wrote in the letters, saying, “Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.

⁹مضمون نامه به اینقرار بود: «اعلام کنید که همه روزه بگیرند و یکجا جمع شوند. نابوت را در بالای مجلس بنشانید.

¹⁰Set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, ‘You cursed God and the king!’ Then carry him out, and stone him to death.”

¹⁰دو نفر اشخاص شریر را بیاورید که علیه او شهادت بدهند و بگویند که به خداوند کفر گفته و به پادشاه دشنام داده است. بعد او را سنگسار کنید تا بمیرد.»

¹¹The men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.

¹¹پس مردان، بزرگان و اشراف شهر فرمان ایزابل را اجرا کردند. همانطوریکه در نامۀ عنوانی شان نوشته شده بود،

¹²They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.

¹²اعلام کردند که همه مردم روزه بگیرند و یکجا جمع شوند. بعد نابوت را در صدر مجلس نشاندند.

¹³The two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him. The base fellows testified against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king!” Then they carried him out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones.

¹³دو مرد شریر آمدند و علیه او شهادت دروغ دادند که به خدا کفر گفته و به پادشاه دشنام داده است. پس مردم او را بیرون شهر بردند و سنگسارش کردند تا که جان داد.

¹⁴Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned, and is dead.”

¹⁴سپس به ایزابل پیام فرستادند و گفتند: «نابوت سنگسار و کشته شد.»

¹⁵It happened, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.”

¹⁵بمجردیکه ایزابل از مرگ نابوت خبر شد، به اخاب گفت: «برو تاکستان نابوت یِزرعیلی را که او نخواست بتو بدهد، تصاحب کن، زیرا حالا او زنده نیست.»

¹⁶It happened, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

¹⁶وقتی اخاب شنید که نابوت مُرده است فوراً برای تصرف تاکستان نابوت براه افتاد.

¹⁷The word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

¹⁷بعد خداوند به اِیلیای تِشبی فرمود:

¹⁸“Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwells in Samaria. Behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone down to take possession of it.

¹⁸«برای ملاقات اخاب، پادشاه اسرائیل که در سامره حکومت می کند برو. او به تاکستان نابوت که آنرا بزور گرفته، رفته است.

¹⁹You shall speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “Have you killed and also taken possession?”’ You shall speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs will lick your blood, even yours.”’”

¹⁹به او بگو که خداوند چنین می فرماید: «آیا کشتن نابوت کافی نبود که مال و مُلک او را هم گرفتی؟» و اضافه کن: «خداوند همچنین می فرماید: در جائیکه سگها خون نابوت را لیسیدند، خون ترا هم می لیسند.»»

²⁰Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh.

²⁰وقتی اخاب ایلیا را دید، گفت: «ای دشمن من، باز مرا یافتی؟» او جواب داد: «بلی، ترا یافتم، زیرا تو کار بسیار زشتی کردی که خداوند را از خود متنفر ساختی،

²¹Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, or, male and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.

²¹بنابران خداوند بلائی بر سرت می آورد و ترا بکلی نیست و نابود می کند و افراد ذکور خانواده ات را ـ چه آزاد و چه غلام ـ از اسرائیل محو می سازد.

²²I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and have made Israel to sin.”

²²خاندان ترا مثل فامیل یَرُبعام، پسر نباط و بعشا، پسر اخیا تباه می کند، زیرا تو آتش خشم مرا برافروختی و باعث شدی که مردم اسرائیل مرتکب گناه شوند.

²³Yahweh also spoke of Jezebel, saying, “The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.

²³دربارۀ ایزابل خداوند می فرماید: «سگها گوشت ایزابل را در بین چهار دیوار یِزرعیل می خورند.

²⁴The dogs will eat he who dies of Ahab in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat he who dies in the field.”

²⁴هر کسیکه از متعلقین اخاب باشد، اگر در شهر بمیرد خوراک سگها و اگر در صحرا بمیرد طعمۀ مرغان هوا می شود.»»

²⁵But there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to do that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

²⁵(هیچ کس دیگر مثل اخاب خود را به کسی که مورد نفرت خداوند باشد نفروخته بود و زن او، ایزابل بود که او را اغوا کرد.

²⁶He did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel.

²⁶او مخصوصاً به این خاطر گناهکار است که مثل اموریان که خداوند آن ها را از سر راه بنی اسرائیل بیرون راند، بت پرست شد.)

²⁷It happened, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

²⁷وقتی اخاب این پیشگوئی را شنید، یخن خود را پاره کرد، نمد پوشید، روزه گرفت، بر نمد خوابید و غمگین و افسرده شد.

²⁸The word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

²⁸بعد خداوند به اِیلیای تِشبی فرمود:«می بینی که اخاب چطور خود را در مقابل من متواضع و شکسته نفس نشان می دهد؟ و به خاطر همین شکسته نفسی اش، در دوران زندگی او بلائی بر سر او نمی آورم. بلکه اولاده اش را به بلا گرفتار می سازم.»

²⁹“See how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son’s days will I bring the evil on his house.”

²⁹«می بینی که اخاب چطور خود را در مقابل من متواضع و شکسته نفس نشان می دهد؟ و به خاطر همین شکسته نفسی اش، در دوران زندگی او بلائی بر سر او نمی آورم. بلکه اولاده اش را به بلا گرفتار می سازم.»
