1Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.
1فلسطینی ها سپاه خود را برای جنگ در سوکوه، در سرزمین یهودیه جمع کردند و در اَفَس دَمیم، بین سوکوه و عزیقه اردو زدند.
2Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
2و همچنین شائول و مردان جنگی اسرائیل جمع شده در درۀ اِیلا اردو زدند و یک خط دفاعی در مقابل فلسطینی ها تشکیل دادند.
3The Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
3فلسطینی ها در یک طرف بالای کوه ایستادند و اسرائیل بر کوه مقابل در طرف دیگر سنگر گرفتند. در حالیکه دره در بین شان قرار داشت.
4There went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
4آنگاه مرد مبارزی بنام جُلیات که از اهالی جَت بود از اردوی فلسطینی ها به میدان آمد. قد او در حدود سه متر بود.
5He had a helmet of brass on his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
5کلاهخود برنجی بر سر، زره برنجی به وزن شصت و پنج کیلو به تن
6He had brass shin armor on his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.
6و ساقپوش برنجی به پا داشت. شمشیر برنجی در کمرش بود
7The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and his shield bearer went before him.
7و چوب نیزه اش مثل چوب کارگاه بافندگی و سرنیزه اش از آهن و به وزن هفت کیلو بود. اسلحه بردارش پیشروی او با سپر بزرگی می رفت.
8He stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.
8او در آنجا ایستاد و با صدای بلند خطاب به سپاه اسرائیل کرده گفت: «آیا ضرور بود که با اینهمه سپاه برای جنگ بیائید؟ من از طرف فلسطینی ها به میدان آمده ام و شما هم که از مردان شائول هستید یک نفر را از طرف خود برای جنگ با من بفرستید.
9If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then you will be our servants, and serve us.”
9اگر بتواند با من بجنگد و مرا بکشد، آنوقت ما همه خدمتگار شما می شویم. و اگر من بر او غالب شدم و او را کشتم، در آنصورت شما غلام ما می شوید و خدمت ما را می کنید.»
10The Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel this day! Give me a man, that we may fight together!”
10او اضافه کرد: «من امروز سپاه اسرائیل را خجل می سازم، پس یکنفر را بفرستید تا با من بجنگد.»
11When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
11وقتی شائول و سپاه اسرائیل سخنان او را شنیدند جرأت خود را از دست دادند و بسیار ترسیدند.
12Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken among men.
12داود، پسر یَسای افراتِی که از باشندگان بیت لحم و از قبیلۀ یهودا بود، هفت برادر داشت. پدرش در زمان سلطنت شائول بسیار پیر و سالخورده شده بود.
13The three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
13سه برادر بزرگ او به ترتیب سن، اِلیاب، اَبِیناداب و شمه نام داشتند که با سپاه شائول برای جنگ آمده بودند.
14David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul.
14داود کوچکترین برادران خود بود. آن سه برادرش با شائول ماندند
15Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.
15و خودش به بیت لحم برگشت تا از رمۀ پدر خود نگهبانی کند.
16The Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
16در عین حال، آن فلسطینی تا چهل روز صبح و شام به میدان می آمد و مبارز می طلبید.
17Jesse said to David his son, “Now take for your brothers an ephah 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers;
17یکروز یسی به داود گفت: «این جوال غلۀ بریان را با ده نان بگیر و هرچه زودتر برای برادرانت در اردوگاه ببر.
18and bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers are doing, and bring back news.”
18همچنین، این پنیرها را هم برای فرمانده سپاه ببر و ببین که برادرانت چطور هستند و برای من احوال شانرا بیاور.»
19Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
19در همین وقت شائول و عساکر او در درۀ اِیلا با فلسطینی ها در جنگ بودند.
20David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the place of the wagons, as the army which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
20داود صبح وقت برخاست و رمه را به چوپان سپرد. آذوقه را برداشت و قرار هدایت پدر خود رهسپار اردوگاه شد و دید که سپاه اسرائیل با فریاد روانۀ میدان جنگ است.
21Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
21لحظه ای بعد هردو لشکر مقابل هم صف آراستند.
22David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers.
22داود چیز هائی را که با خود آورده بود به پهره دار داد و خودش به اردوگاه رفت تا احوال برادران خود را بپرسد.
23As he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard them.
23در همین اثنا مبارز فلسطینی که نامش جُلیات و از شهر جَت بود، از اردوگاه فلسطینی ها خارج شد و مثل دفعۀ پیشتر مبارز طلبید و داود شنید.
24All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were terrified.
24بمجردیکه عساکر اسرائیلی او را دیدند، از ترس فرار کردند.
25The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. It shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.”
25و گفتند: «آن مرد را دیدید؟ او آمده است که تمام سپاه اسرائیل را مسخره کند. پادشاه اعلان کرده است که هر کسی او را بکشد، پاداشی خوبی به او می بخشد و دختر خود را هم به او می دهد. و علاوتاً تمام خاندانش از دادن مالیه معاف می شود.»
26David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
26داود از کسانیکه آنجا ایستاده بودند، پرسید: «کسیکه آن فلسطینی را بکشد و اسرائيل را از اين ننگ رهايی دهد چه پاداشی می گیرد؟ زیرا که این فلسطینی بی خدا چه کسی است که سپاه خدای زنده را اینطور تحقیر و ریشخند می کند؟»
27The people answered him in this way, saying, “So shall it be done to the man who kills him.”
27آن ها برایش گفتند: «او همان پاداشی را می گیرد که پیشتر گفتیم.»
28Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride, and the naughtiness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.”
28چون اِلیاب، برادر بزرگ او دید که داود با آن مردان حرف می زند، قهر شد و پرسید: «اینجا چه می کنی؟ آن چند تا گوسفند را در بیابان پیش چه کسی گذاشتی؟ من تو آدم مضر را می شناسم و منظور بد دلت را می دانم که برای دیدن جنگ آمده ای.»
29David said, “What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”
29داود گفت: «من چه کرده ام؟ تنها یک سوال کردم.»
30He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that again; and the people answered him again the same way.
30این را گفت و رو به طرف شخص دیگری کرده سوال خود را تکرار نمود و هر کدام همان یک جواب را به او داد.
31When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.
31وقتی سخنان داود را به پادشاه خبر دادند، پادشاه او را بحضور خود خواست.
32David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
32داود به پادشاه گفت: «خاطر تان جمع باشد. من می روم و با آن فلسطینی می جنگم.»
33Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”
33شائول به داود گفت: «تو نمیتوانی حریف آن فلسطینی شوی، زیرا تو یک جوان بی تجربه هستی و او از جوانی یک شخص جنگجو بوده است.»
34David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came, and took a lamb out of the flock,
34اما داود در جواب گفت: «این غلامت چوپانی رمۀ پدر خود را کرده است. و هرگاه کدام شیر یا خرس بیاید و بره ای را از رمه ببرد،
35I went out after him, and struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and struck him, and killed him.
35من بدنبالش رفته و آنرا از دهن حیوان درنده نجات می دهم و اگر به من حمله کند از ریش آن می گیرم و آنرا می کشم.
36Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”
36غلامت شیر و خرس را کشته است و با این فلسطینی بی خدا که سپاه خدای زنده را ریشخند می کند، همان معامله را می نمایم.
37David said, “Yahweh who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go; and Yahweh shall be with you.”
37خداوندی که مرا از چنگ و دندان شیر و خرس نجات داده است، از دست این فلسطینی هم نجات می دهد.» پس شائول موافقه کرده گفت: «برو خدا همراهت باشد.»
38Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of brass on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
38آنگاه شائول داود را مجهز ساخت. کلاهخود برنجی بسرش و زره پلیت دار به تنش کرد.
39David strapped his sword on his clothing, and he tried to move; for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “I can’t go with these; for I have not tested them.” David took them off.
39داود شمشیر خود را بالای زره به غلاف کرد و یک دو سه قدم برداشت و بعد ایستاد. زیرا که او هرگز این چیزها را نپوشیده بود. لهذا به شائول گفت: «من به این ترتیب رفته نمی توانم، زیرا من با این چیزها هیچ عادت ندارم.» پس همه را از تن کشید.
40He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, even in his wallet. His sling was in his hand; and he drew near to the Philistine.
40بعد عصای خود را به دست گرفت و پنج تا سنگِ لشم را هم از جوی برداشت و در طبراق چوپانی خود که در حقیقت انبان او بود، انداخت و فلخمان خود را گرفت و بطرف رزمندۀ فلسطینی قدم برداشت.
41The Philistine came on and drew near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.
41فلسطینی هم آمد و در حالیکه سپر بردارش پیشتر از او می رفت، به داود نزدیک شد.
42When the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair face.
42وقتی چشم فلسطینی به داود افتاد، در نظرش بسیار حقیر آمد، زیرا داود یک جوان خوش چهره و زیبا رو بود.
43The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” The Philistine cursed David by his gods.
43او به داود گفت: «آیا من سگ هستم که با چوب برای مقابلۀ من می آئی؟» و داود را با نام خدای خود لعنت فرستاد.
44The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the field.”
44بعد به داود گفت: «بیا که گوشتت را به مرغان هوا و درندگان صحرا بدهم.»
45Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of Yahweh of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
45داود به فلسطینی جواب داد: «تو با شمشیر و نیزه می آئی، اما من بنام خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل که تو تحقیرش کردی، می آیم.
46Today, Yahweh will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you, and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
46امروز خداوند مرا بر تو غالب می سازد. من ترا می کشم و سرت را از تن جدا می کنم. لاش سپاهیانت را به مرغان هوا و درندگان صحرا می دهم تا همۀ مردم روی زمین بدانند که خدائی در اسرائیل است.
47and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh doesn’t save with sword and spear: for the battle is Yahweh’s, and he will give you into our hand.”
47و همه کسانیکه در اینجا حاضرند، شاهد باشند که ظفر و پیروزی با شمشیر و نیزه به دست نمی آید، زیرا جنگ، جنگ خداوند است و او ما را بر شما پیروز می سازد.»
48It happened, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
48وقتیکه فلسطینی از جای خود حرکت کرد و می خواست به داود نزدیک شود، داود فوراً برای مقابله بسوی او شتافت.
49David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.
49دست خود را در طبراق کرد و یک سنگ را گرفت و در فلخمان گذاشت و پیشانی فلسطینی را نشانه گرفت. سنگ به پیشانی او فرو رفت، افتاد و رویش بزمین خورد.
50So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
50داود با یک فلخمان و یک سنگ بر فلسطینی غالب شد و در حالیکه هیچ شمشیری در دست او نبود، او را کشت.
51Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him, and cut off his head therewith. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
51بعد داود رفت و بالای سر فلسطینی ایستاد شمشیر او را از غلاف کشید و او را کشت و سرش را از تن جدا کرد.
وقتی فلسطینی ها دیدند که پهلوان شان کشته شد همگی فرار کردند.
52The men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until you come to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.
52بعد لشکر اسرائیل و یهودا برخاستند و با فریاد به تعقیب فلسطینی ها تا جَت و دروازه های عَقرُون پرداختند. و جاده ایکه بطرف شَعَرِیم و جَت و عَقرُون می رفت پُر از اجساد مردگان بود.
53The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
53سپس دست از تعقیب کشیده برگشتند و به تاراج اردوگاه فلسطینی ها شروع کردند.
54David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armor in his tent.
54بعد داود سرِ بریدۀ جُلیات را گرفته به اورشلیم بُرد. اما اسلحۀ او را در خیمۀ خداوند نگهداشت.
55When Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?” Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I can’t tell.”
55وقتیکه داود برای جنگ با فلسطینی می رفت، شائول از قوماندان سپاه خود، اَبنیر پرسید: «این جوان پسر کیست؟» اَبنیر جواب داد: «ای پادشاه، بسر شما قسم است که من نمی دانم.»
56The king said, “Inquire whose son the young man is!”
56پادشاه به اَبنیر گفت: «برو بپرس که این جوان پسر کیست.»
57As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
57پس از آنکه داود فلسطینی را کشت و برگشت، اَبنیر او را گرفته به نزد شائول آورد. سر آن فلسطینی در دستش بود.شائول از او پرسید: «ای جوان، پدر تو کیست؟» داود جواب داد: «پدر من خدمتگار شما، یسی است که در بیت لحم زندگی می کند.»
58Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, you young man?” David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”
58شائول از او پرسید: «ای جوان، پدر تو کیست؟» داود جواب داد: «پدر من خدمتگار شما، یسی است که در بیت لحم زندگی می کند.»
