1It happened after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag;
1بعد از وفات شائول و بازگشت از کشتار عمالیقیان، داود دو روز در صِقلَغ توقف کرد.
2it happened on the third day, that behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes torn, and earth on his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and showed respect.
2در روز سوم ناگهان مرد جوانی با لباس پاره و خاک بسر از اردوی شائول پیش داود آمد و روی بخاک افتاد و تعظیم کرد.
3David said to him, “Where do you come from?” He said to him, “I have escaped out of the camp of Israel.”
3داود از او پرسید: «از کجا آمده ای؟» او جواب داد: «من از اردوی اسرائیل فرار کرده ام.»
4David said to him, “How did it go? Please tell me.” He answered, “The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.”
4داود سوال کرد: «از جنگ چه احوال داری؟» او گفت: «مردم ما از میدان جنگ گریختند. بسیاری از آن ها زخمی و کشته شدند. شائول و پسرش، یُوناتان هم مُردند.»
5David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?”
5داود پرسید: «از کجا می دانی که شائول و یُوناتان مرده اند؟»
6The young man who told him said, “As I happened by chance on Mount Gilboa, behold, Saul was leaning on his spear; and behold, the chariots and the horsemen followed hard after him.
6او جواب داد: «اتفاقاً گذر من به کوه جِلبوع افتاد و در آنجا شائول را دیدم که بر نیزۀ خود تکیه داده و عراده ها و سواران دشمن به او نزدیک می شدند.
7When he looked behind him, he saw me, and called to me. I answered, ‘Here I am.’
7وقتی به پشت سر نگاه کرد و مرا دید، صدا کرد که پیش او بروم. من رفتم و گفتم: «بفرمائید، چه خدمتی کرده می توانم؟»
8He said to me, ‘Who are you?’ I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’
8او پرسید: «تو کیستی؟» جواب دادم: «من یک عمالیقی هستم.»
9He said to me, ‘Please stand beside me, and kill me; for anguish has taken hold of me, because my life is yet whole in me.’
9او از من خواهش کرده گفت: «بیا مرا بکش و از این رنج خلاصم کن، زیرا با وجود این درد کشنده هنوز هم زنده هستم.»
10So I stood beside him, and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he had fallen. I took the crown that was on his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.”
10بنابران، رفتم و او را کشتم، چون می دانستم بخاطر آن زخم مهلکی که داشت امکان زنده ماندنش نبود. بعد تاج سر و بازوبندش را گرفته بحضور آقای خود آوردم.»
11Then David took hold on his clothes, and tore them; and likewise all the men who were with him.
11آنگاه داود و همراهانش یخن خود را پاره کردند و
12They mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Yahweh, “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.
12برای شائول، یُوناتان، سپاه خداوند و قوم اسرائیل که در آن روز کشته شدند، گریه و نوحه کردند و تا شام روزه گرفتند.
13David said to the young man who told him, “Where are you from?” He answered, “I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite.”
13داود از جوان قاصد پرسید: «از کجا هستی؟» او جواب داد: «من پسر یک مهاجر عمالیقی هستم.»
14David said to him, “How were you not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy Yahweh’s anointed?”
14داود گفت: «آیا نترسیدی که پادشاه برگزیدۀ خداوند را کشتی؟»
15David called one of the young men, and said, “Go near, and fall on him.” He struck him, so that he died.
15بعد داود به یکی از مردان همراه خود گفت: «او را بکش!» آن مرد با شمشیر خود او را زد و بقتل رساند.
16David said to him, “Your blood be on your head; for your mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have slain Yahweh’s anointed.’”
16داود گفت: «خونت بگردن خودت باشد، زیرا با زبان خود اقرار کردی که پادشاه برگزیدۀ خداوند را کشته ای.»
17David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son
17داود این مرثیه را برای شائول و پسرش، یُوناتان خواند.
18(and he commanded them to teach the children of Judah the song of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jashar):
18بعد امر کرد که آنرا به همه مردم یهودا تعلیم بدهند. (این مرثیه در »کتاب یاشر« ثبت شده است.)
19“Your glory, Israel, is slain on your high places! How the mighty have fallen!
19«جلال و شوکت تو ای اسرائیل، در تپه های بلند از بین رفت. دیدی که دلاوران چسان سقوط کردند.
20Don’t tell it in Gath. Don’t publish it in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
20این خبر را در جَت اعلان نکنید. در جاده های اَشقَلُون خبر نبرید، مبادا دختران فلسطینی ها خوشحال شوند و دختران مشرک ذوق بزنند.
21You mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew nor rain on you, neither fields of offerings; For there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast away, The shield of Saul was not anointed with oil.
21ای کوههای جِلبوع، شبنم و باران بر شما نبارد. در مزارع تان کشت و زراعت نشود، زیرا در آنجا سپر قهرمانان دور انداخته شده؛ و سپر شائول دیگر با روغن جلا داده نمی شود.
22From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, Jonathan’s bow didn’t turn back. Saul’s sword didn’t return empty.
22شائول و یُوناتان یکجا، نیرومندترین دشمنان خود را کشتند. از جنگ دست خالی برنگشتند.
23Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives. In their death, they were not divided. They were swifter than eagles. They were stronger than lions.
23چقدر دوست داشتنی و خوشرو بودند! در زندگی و مرگ با هم یکجا بودند. تیزتر از عقاب تیزبال و قویتر از شیر غران بودند.
24You daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet delicately, who put ornaments of gold on your clothing.
24حالا ای دوشیزگان اسرائیل، برای شائول گریه کنید که شما را با لباس سرخ و نفیس ملبس کرد و با زیورات طلا آراست.
25How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan is slain on your high places.
25این قهرمانان توانا چگونه در جریان جنگ کشته شدند. یُوناتان بر تپه ها جان داد.
26I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan. You have been very pleasant to me. Your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.
26برادرم یُوناتان، دلم بخاطر تو مالامال غم است. تو برای من عزیز و دوست داشتنی بودی. محبت تو به من عمیقتر از عشق زنان بود.دلاوران به خاک افتاده و مرده اند. و اسلحه های آنها از بین رفتند«.
27How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!”
27دلاوران به خاک افتاده و مرده اند. و اسلحه های آنها از بین رفتند«.
