¹On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.

¹آن شب پادشاه نتوانست بخوابد. از این رو امر کرد که وقایع سلطنت او را برایش بخوانند.

²It was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were doorkeepers, who had tried to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus.

²قسمتی را که خواندند مربوط به این بود که چگونه مردخای نقشۀ قتل پادشاه بوسیله بِگتان و تارش را بر ملا ساخت ـ بِگتان و تارش دو نفر از خواجه سرایان و از پهره داران قصر شاه بودند.

³The king said, “What honor and dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” Then the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”

³شاه پرسید: «در مقابل این خدمت چه پاداش و افتخاری به مردخای داده شده است؟» خادمین در جواب گفتند: «هیچ پاداشی به او داده نشده است.»

⁴The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

⁴پادشاه پرسید: «آیا از مأمورین من کسی در این جا هست؟» درست در همین لحظه هامان وارد قصر شد تا از شاه بخواهد که مردخای را به دار بزند.

⁵The king’s servants said to him, “Behold, Haman stands in the court.” The king said, “Let him come in.”

⁵پس خادمین جواب دادند: «هامان اینجا است و می خواهد شما را ببیند.» پادشاه گفت: «بگوئید وارد شود.»

⁶So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”

⁶وقتی هامان وارد شد، پادشاه به او گفت: «من بسیار مایلم که به یک نفر عزت ببخشم. به نظر تو برای چنین شخصی چه باید کرد؟» هامان با خود گفت: «بغیر از من چه کسی می تواند مورد عزت و حرمت پادشاه باشد.»

⁷Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor,

⁷پس در جواب پادشاه گفت: «امر فرمائید جامۀ سلطنتی را که پادشاه در بر می کنند همراه با اسپی که پادشاه سوار می شوند و با زیورات سلطنتی تزئین شده باشد، برای او بیاورند.

⁸let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a crown royal is set.

⁸آنگاه یکی از امرای عالیرتبۀ خود را بگمارید تا آن لباس مخصوص را به او بپوشاند، او را سوار اسپ کرده در اطراف شهر بگرداند، و با فریاد بلند بگوید: کسی که مورد عزت پادشاه واقع می شود، این چنین پاداش می گیرد.»

⁹Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honor with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’”

⁹پس پادشاه به هامان گفت: «برو هر چه زودتر لباسها و اسپ را برای مردخای یهودی آماده کن. هر چه گفتی در مورد او انجام بده. او در کنار دروازۀ دخول قصر نشسته است.»

¹⁰Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.”

¹⁰پس هامان لباس و اسپ را آماده کرد و لباس شاهی را به مردخای پوشانید. مردخای سوار بر اسپ شد و هامان او را به میدان شهر برد و با صدای بلند می گفت: «کسی که مورد عزت پادشاه قرار می گیرد، این چنین پاداش می گیرد.»

¹¹Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”

¹¹بعد مردخای به طرف دروازۀ دخول قصر رفت، اما هامان با اندوه فراوان در حالیکه روی خود را از خجالت پوشانیده بود با عجله به خانۀ خود برگشت،

¹²Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered.

¹²و موضوع را برای همسر و دوستان خود تعریف کرد. آنگاه همسر و دوستان دانای او گفتند: «تو قدرتت را از دست می دهی. مردخای یک یهودی است و تو نمی توانی در مقابل او بایستی. او حتماً تو را از بین خواهد برد.»در حالیکه آن ها هنوز مشغول صحبت بودند، خواجه سرایان قصر با عجله وارد خانۀ هامان شدند تا او را فوری به مهمانی اِستَر ببرند.

¹³Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him.”

¹³در حالیکه آن ها هنوز مشغول صحبت بودند، خواجه سرایان قصر با عجله وارد خانۀ هامان شدند تا او را فوری به مهمانی اِستَر ببرند.

¹⁴While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
