1When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”
1وقتی مردم دیدند که موسی مدت زیادی در کوه مانده و مراجعت نکرده است، دور هارون جمع شدند و گفتند: «ما نمی دانیم بر سر موسی که ما را از مصر بیرون آورد، چه واقع شده است. پس برخیز و برای ما خدائی بساز تا راهنمای ما باشد.»
2Aaron said to them, “Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”
2هارون به آن ها گفت: «گوشواره های طلائی را که در گوش زنها و دختران و پسران شما هست، نزد من بیاورید.»
3All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.
3پس تمام مردم، گوشواره های طلائی را از گوشهای خود کشیده به هارون دادند.
4He received what they handed him, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said, “These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”
4هارون گوشواره ها را گرفت و آن ها را ذوب کرده در قالب ریخت و از آن مجسمه ای بشکل یک گوساله طلائی ساخت. مردم گفتند: «ای قوم اسرائیل، این همان خدائی است که ما را از مصر بیرون آورد.»
5When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.”
5سپس هارون قربانگاهی در پیشروی گوسالۀ طلائی بنا کرد و اعلام نمود: «فردا به احترام خداوند جشن می گیریم.»
6They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
6روز بعد، صبح وقت مردم برخاستند و حیواناتی را به عنوان قربانی های سلامتی تقدیم کردند و سپس نشستند و به خوردن و نوشیدن و کارهای زشت و شرم آور پرداختند.
7Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go, get down; for your people, who you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!
7خداوند به موسی فرمود: «فوراً پائین برو، زیرا این قومی که تو آن ها را از مصر بیرون آوردی، گناهکار شده و مرا ترک کرده اند.
8They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”
8آن ها از راهی که من به آن ها نشان دادم منحرف شده اند و گوساله ای از طلا برای خود ساخته آنرا پرستش می کنند و برایش قربانی کرده می گویند که آن گوساله همان خدائی است که آن ها را از مصر بیرون آورد.
9Yahweh said to Moses, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
9من می دانم که این مردم سرکش و نافرمان هستند.
10Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”
10تو دیگر از آن ها شفاعت نکن. من بر آن ها خشمگین هستم و می خواهم همۀ شان را نابود کنم. به عوض آن ها از تو و از اولاده ات قوم بزرگی بوجود خواهم آورد.»
11Moses begged Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
11اما موسی پیش خدای خود زاری کرده گفت: «ای خداوند، چرا بر قوم برگزیدۀ خود این چنین خشمگین شده ای؟ مگر آن ها را با قدرت و معجزات عظیم خود از مصر بیرون نیاوردی؟
12Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, ‘He brought them forth for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth?’ Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people.
12آیا می خواهی مصریان بگویند که تو قوم برگزیدۀ خود را به بهانه ای از مصر بیرون بردی تا آن ها را در کوه و بیابان هلاک کنی و بکلی از بین ببری؟ ای خداوند از خشم خود بگذر و از تصمیم خود منصرف شو و این مصیبت را بر سر آن ها نیاور.
13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.’”
13ابراهیم و اسحاق و یعقوب، بندگان خود را بیاد آور. قولی را که به آن ها دادی فراموش نکن که فرمودی نسل آن ها را مانند ستارگان آسمان بیشمار می سازی و تمام آن سرزمینی که وعدۀ ملکیت آن را به ایشان داده ای به آن ها می بخشی که تا ابد مال خود شان باشد.»
14Yahweh repented of the evil which he said he would do to his people.
14پس خداوند از تصمیم خود صرف نظر فرمود و مصیبتی که قوم اسرائیل را تهدید می کرد، برطرف شد.
15Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other they were written.
15موسی از کوه پائین رفت و دو لوح سنگی را که احکام خدا در دو طرف آن نوشته شده بود، در دست داشت.
16The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tables.
16خدا خودش آن دو لوحۀ سنگی را و احکام خود را روی آن ها نوشته بود.
17When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”
17وقتی که یوشع سر و صدا و فریاد مردم را شنید، به موسی گفت: «از اردوگاه سر و صدای جنگ را می شنوم.»
18He said, “It isn’t the voice of those who shout for victory, neither is it the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I hear.”
18موسی در جواب گفت: «این صدا فریاد پیروزی و یا شکست نیست، بلکه صدای ساز و آواز است.»
19It happened, as soon as he came near to the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing: and Moses’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.
19وقتی که موسی به نزدیک اردوگاه رسید و گوساله طلائی و مردمی را که در پیشروی آن می رقصیدند، دید، خشمگین شد و لوح ها را در پای کوه به زمین زد و شکست.
20He took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
20سپس گوساله ای را که ساخته بودند برداشت و در آتش انداخت. بعد آن را کوبید و گردش را با آب مخلوط کرده آب را به بنی اسرائیل نوشانید.
21Moses said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?”
21موسی به هارون گفت: «این مردم به تو چه بدی کرده بودند که تو آن ها را به ارتکاب چنین گناه وادار ساختی؟»
22Aaron said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.
22هارون جواب داد: «بر من قهر نشو، تو می دانی که این مردم چقدر آمادۀ کارهای زشت هستند.
23For they said to me, ‘Make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’
23آن ها به من گفتند: چون ما نمی دانیم که بر سر موسی که ما را از مصر بیرون آورد چه واقع شده است. پس برای ما خدائی بساز تا راهنمای ما باشد.
24I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them take it off:’ so they gave it to me; and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”
24من هم از آن ها خواستم تا طلاهای خود را به نزد من بیاورند. وقتی طلاها را آوردند، من آن ها را در آتش انداختم و این گوساله ساخته شد!»
25When Moses saw that the people had broken loose, (for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies),
25چون موسی دید که ادارۀ قوم از دست هارون خارج شده و آن ها خود را پیش دشمنان رسوا ساخته اند،
26then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on Yahweh’s side, come to me!” All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.
26بنابراین، در مقابل دروازۀ اردوگاه ایستاد و با صدای بلند فریاد برآورد: «هر کسی که طرفدار خداوند است پیش من بیاید.» تمام قبیلۀ لاوی پیش موسی رفتند.
27He said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’”
27موسی به آن ها گفت: «خدای بنی اسرائیل می فرماید که همۀ تان شمشیر خود را به کمر ببندید و از اینطرف اردوگاه به آنطرف آن بروید و برادر و دوست و همسایۀ خود را بکشید.»
28The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
28لاویان امر موسی را اطاعت کردند و در آن روز در حدود سه هزار نفر از مردم را کشتند.
29Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, yes, every man against his son, and against his brother; that he may bestow on you a blessing this day.”
29موسی به لاویان گفت: «شما امروز با کشتن پسران و برادران تان، خود را به عنوان کاهن برای خدمت خداوند وقف کردید، بنابراین، خداوند برکات خود را به شما داده است.»
30It happened on the next day, that Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin.”
30روز بعد، موسی به قوم گفت: «شما مرتکب گناه بزرگی شده اید. اما من دوباره بالای کوه می روم تا در حضور خداوند از شما شفاعت کنم. شاید او گناه شما را ببخشد.»
31Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.
31موسی دوباره به حضور خداوند رفت و عرض کرد: «این قوم گناه بزرگی مرتکب شده اند. آن ها برای خود خدائی از طلا ساختند و آنرا پرستش کردند.
32Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”
32حالا از تو تمنا می کنم که آن ها را ببخشی. اما اگر حاضر به بخشایش آن ها نیستی، پس اسم مرا هم از دفتری که نام قوم را در آن ثبت کرده ای، محو کن.»
33Yahweh said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
33خداوند در جواب فرمود: «من فقط نام آن کسانی را که علیه من گناه کرده اند از دفتر خود محو می کنم.
34Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
34حالا برو و قوم را به جائی که بتو گفته ام راهنمائی کن. بخاطر داشته باش که فرشتۀ من ترا هدایت خواهد کرد. ولی زمانی هم فراخواهد رسید که من قوم را بخاطر این گناهی که کرده اند مجازات خواهم کرد.»پس خداوند آن قوم را بخاطر اینکه هارون را مجبور کرده بودند که برای شان گوسالۀ طلائی بسازد، به بیماری مهلکی مبتلا کرد.
35Yahweh struck the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.
35پس خداوند آن قوم را بخاطر اینکه هارون را مجبور کرده بودند که برای شان گوسالۀ طلائی بسازد، به بیماری مهلکی مبتلا کرد.
