¹When the seventh month had come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.

¹تا ماه هفتم قوم اسرائیل همگی در شهرهای خود ساکن شدند. بعد همه در شهر اورشلیم گرد آمدند

²Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak stood up with his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brothers, and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

²و یشوع بن یُوصاداق، و کاهنانی که با او کار می کردند، و زِرُبابل فرزند شالتی ئیل، همراه اقوام خود قربانگاه عبادتگاه خدای اسرائیل را دوباره بنا نمودند تا بر طبق احکام شریعت موسی، مرد خدا، برای سوزاندن هدایای سوختنی مورد استفاده قرار گیرد.

³In spite of their fear because of the peoples of the surrounding lands, they set the altar on its base; and they offered burnt offerings on it to Yahweh, even burnt offerings morning and evening.

³گرچه آنهای که از تبعید برگشته بودند از ساکنین آن سرزمین می ترسیدند، با این حال، آن ها قربانگاه را در همان محل سابقش دوباره ساختند. و بار دیگر بطور مرتب قربانی های صبحگاهی و شبانه خود را بر آن تقدیم می کردند.

⁴They kept the feast of tents, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the ordinance, as the duty of every day required;

⁴آن ها عید سایبان ها را با رعایت مقررات مربوط به آن جشن گرفتند، و هر روز قربانی های همان روز را تقدیم می کردند.

⁵and afterward the continual burnt offering, the offerings of the new moons, of all the set feasts of Yahweh that were consecrated, and of everyone who willingly offered a freewill offering to Yahweh.

⁵علاوه بر آن، آن ها بطور منظم مراسم قربانی را اجراء می نمودند و همچنین قربانی های مربوط به جشن ماه نو و تمام تشریفات دیگری که برای پرستش خداوند برپا می شد، مرتباً انجام می گرفت. هدایای دیگری نیز بطور داوطلبانه و اختیاری به حضور خداوند تقدیم می شد.

⁶From the first day of the seventh month, they began to offer burnt offerings to Yahweh; but the foundation of Yahweh’s temple was not yet laid.

⁶هر چند هنوز مردم ساختمان مجدد عبادتگاه را شروع نکرده بودند، با وجود این در اولین روز ماه هفتم اجرای مراسم قربانی های سوختنی را شروع کردند.

⁷They also gave money to the masons, and to the carpenters. They also gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had from Cyrus King of Persia.

⁷مردم برای پرداخت اجورۀ سنگ تراشان و نجاران پول دادند، و همچنین غذا، نوشیدنی ها و روغن زیتون جمع کردند تا به شهرهای صور و صیدون فرستاده شود و در عوض چوب درخت سرو آزاد از لبنان خریداری کرده از طریق بحر به یافا بفرستند. تمام این اقدامات با موافقت کورِش، شاهنشاه فارس انجام شد.

⁸Now in the second year of their coming to God’s house at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began the work and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of Yahweh’s house.

⁸بنابراین، در ماه دوم سال دوم، آن ها به عبادتگاه اورشلیم برگشتند. زِرُبابل، یشوع، و بقیۀ هموطنان آن ها، کاهنان و لاویان ـ در حقیقت همه تبعید شدگان که به اورشلیم بر گشته بودند ـ با هم کار می کردند. همه لاویان بیست ساله به بالا به سرپرستی کار ساختمان مجدد عبادتگاه گماشته شدند.

⁹Then Jeshua stood with his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in God’s house: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brothers the Levites.

⁹یشوع لاوی و پسران او و اقوامش، قدمی ئیل و پسرانش (از خاندان یهودا) مسئولیت نظارت در آبادی عبادتگاه را به عهده گرفتند. (لاویان وابسته به خاندان حیناداد نیز به آن ها کمک کردند.)

¹⁰When the builders laid the foundation of Yahweh’s temple, they set the priests in their clothing with trumpets, with the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise Yahweh, according to the directions of David king of Israel.

¹⁰وقتی مردم تهداب عبادتگاه را گذاشتند، کاهنان با چپن های خود در حالیکه کرنا به دست داشتند و لاویان مربوط به خاندان آساف با دایره های برنجی خود، در جای مخصوص ایستادند. آن ها بر طبق تعلیم داود پادشاه به حمد و سپاس خداوند پرداختند.

¹¹They sang to one another in praising and giving thanks to Yahweh, “For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever toward Israel.” All the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised Yahweh, because the foundation of the house of Yahweh had been laid.

¹¹آن ها اشعاری در حمد و سپاس خداوند می سرودند و این بیت را تکرار می کردند: «نیکو است خداوند، خدائی که محبتش به اسرائیل ابدی است.» چون کار ساختمان تهداب عبادتگاه شروع شده بود، همه با صدای بلند خدا را ستایش می کردند

¹²But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ households, the old men who had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice. Many also shouted aloud for joy,

¹²اغلب کاهنان و لاویان و مو سفیدان قبایل که عبادتگاه قبلی را دیده بودند، وقتی دیدند که تهداب عبادتگاه دوباره گذاشته می شود با صدای بلند گریه می کردند. درحالیکه بقیۀ حاضرین فریاد شوق و خوشی سر داده بودند.هیچ کس نمی توانست فریادهای خوشی را از صدای گریه تشخیص دهد، چون آنقدر صدای چیغ و فریاد بلند بود که حتی از فاصله بسیار دور شنیده می شد.

¹³so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people; for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard far away.

¹³هیچ کس نمی توانست فریادهای خوشی را از صدای گریه تشخیص دهد، چون آنقدر صدای چیغ و فریاد بلند بود که حتی از فاصله بسیار دور شنیده می شد.
