¹Then Darius the king made a decree, and search was made in the house of the archives, where the treasures were laid up in Babylon.

¹داریوش پادشاه امر داد تا اسناد موجوده در دفتر اوراق سلطنتی در بابل بررسی شود.

²There was found at Achmetha, in the palace that is in the province of Media, a scroll, and therein was thus written for a record:

²اما در شهر اکباتان (همِدان فعلی) در ایالت ماد طوماری یافت شد که در آن چنین نوشته شده بود:

³In the first year of Cyrus the king, Cyrus the king made a decree: Concerning God’s house at Jerusalem, let the house be built, the place where they offer sacrifices, and let its foundations be strongly laid; its height sixty cubits, and its breadth sixty cubits;

³«در اولین سال پادشاهی خود، کورِش پادشاه فرمان داد که عبادتگاه اورشلیم دوباره در همان جای سابقش برای انجام قربانی ها بنا شود. بلندی عبادتگاه باید سی متر و عرض آن نیز سی متر باشد.

⁴with three courses of great stones, and a course of new timber: and let the expenses be given out of the king’s house.

⁴دیوارهای آن از سه لایه سنگ و یک لایه چوب ـ به عنوان روکش روی سنگها ـ ساخته شود. تمام مخارج ساختمان از خزانۀ سلطنتی پرداخته شود.

⁵Also let the gold and silver vessels of God’s house, which Nebuchadnezzar took forth out of the temple which is at Jerusalem, and brought to Babylon, be restored, and brought again to the temple which is at Jerusalem, everyone to its place; and you shall put them in God’s house.

⁵همچنین کلیه ظروف طلا و نقره ئی که نبوکدنصر از عبادتگاه اورشلیم به بابل آورده بود باید به جای خودشان ‎یعنی عبادتگاه اورشلیم بازگردانیده شوند.»

⁶Now therefore, Tattenai, governor beyond the River, Shetharbozenai, and your companions the Apharsachites, who are beyond the River, you must stay far from there.

⁶آنگاه داریوش پادشاه به آن ها چنین جواب داد: «به تتنائی، فرماندار ایالت غربی دریای فرات، شَتَر بوزنای و دستیاران شان در غرب فرات: به عبادتگاه نزدیک نشوید،

⁷Leave the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in its place.

⁷و در ساختن آن دخالت نکنید. بگذارید والی یهودیه و رهبران قوم یهود عبادتگاه خدای خود را در محل سابقش بسازند.

⁸Moreover I make a decree what you shall do to these elders of the Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods, even of the tribute beyond the River, expenses be given with all diligence to these men, that they be not hindered.

⁸من به این وسیله به شما دستور می دهم که در آبادی مجدد عبادتگاه به آن ها کمک کنید. تمام مخارج آن ها باید فوراً از خزانۀ سلطنتی از مدرک مالیات دریافت شدۀ ایالت غربی دریای فرات پرداخته شود تا وقفه ای در کار ساختمان پیش نیاید.

⁹That which they have need of, both young bulls, and rams, and lambs, for burnt offerings to the God of heaven; also wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the word of the priests who are at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail;

⁹هر روز، طبق احتیاج کاهنان که در اورشلیم هستند، به آن ها گوساله، قوچ، بره، یا گندم، نمک، شراب و روغن زیتون بدهید تا قربانی هائی را که مورد پسند خدای آسمان است تقدیم کنند و برای سلامتی من و فرزندانم دعای خیر نمایند.

¹⁰that they may offer sacrifices of pleasant aroma to the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons.

¹⁰علاوه بر آن، فرمان می دهم هر که از این امر تمرد کند یک تیر چوبی از سقف خانه اش کنده، نوک آن را تیز کنند و به بدنش فرو برند، و خانه اش را نیز تبدیل به تودۀ خاک گردانند.

¹¹Also I have made a decree, that whoever shall alter this word, let a beam be pulled out from his house, and let him be lifted up and fastened thereon; and let his house be made a dunghill for this:

¹¹همان خدائی که اورشلیم را برای پرستش خود برگزید هر پادشاه یا هر ملتی را که فرمان مرا بجا نیاورد و بخواهد عبادتگاه را ویران کند محو و نابود خواهد ساخت. من، داریوش، این امر را داده ام. امر من باید کاملاً اجرا شود.»

¹²and the God who has caused his name to dwell there overthrow all kings and peoples who shall put forth their hand to alter the same, to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be done with all diligence.

¹²آنگاه تتنائی والی ایالت غربی دریای فرات، شَتَر بوزنای و بقیۀ همکاران شان هرچه داریوش پادشاه امر داده بود انجام دادند.

¹³Then Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, Shetharbozenai, and their companions, because Darius the king had sent a decree, did accordingly with all diligence.

¹³رهبران قوم یهود با تشویق انبیای خدا، حجی و زکریا به کار ساختن عبادتگاه ادامه دادند. آن ها طبق امر خدای اسرائیل و فرمان کورِش، داریوش و اُردشیر پادشاهان فارس ساختمان عبادتگاه را به اتمام رسانیدند.

¹⁴The elders of the Jews built and prospered, through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. They built and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the decree of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.

¹⁴در روز سوم ماه «ادار» و در ششمین سال سلطنت داریوش پادشاه کار ساختمان عبادتگاه را به اتمام رسانیدند.

¹⁵This house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.

¹⁵آنگاه قوم اسرائیل ـ کاهنان، لاویان و همه آنهای که از تبعید برگشته بودند ـ با خوشی عبادتگاه را تقدیس کردند.

¹⁶The children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy.

¹⁶برای مراسم تقدیس عبادتگاه، آن ها صد گاو نر، دوصد قوچ و چهارصد بره قربانی کردند. علاوه بر آن دوازده بز برای آمرزش گناهان خود ـ یک بز برای هر قبیله اسرائیل ـ قربانی کردند.

¹⁷They offered at the dedication of this house of God one hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin offering for all Israel, twelve male goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.

¹⁷آن ها همچنین کاهنان و لاویان را برای خدمات عبادتگاه اورشلیم برحسب دستورات شریعت موسی تعیین نمودند.

¹⁸They set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, for the service of God, which is at Jerusalem; as it is written in the book of Moses.

¹⁸کسانی که از تبعید برگشته بودند عید فِصَح را در روز چهاردهم ماه اول سال بعد جشن گرفتند.

¹⁹The children of the captivity kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.

¹⁹همه کاهنان و لاویان خود را تطهیر کرده پاک شدند. لاویان از طرف همۀ آنهائی که از تبعید برگشته بودند و همچنین از طرف کاهنان و از جانب خود مراسم قربانی های عید فِصَح را بجا آوردند.

²⁰For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together; all of them were pure: and they killed the Passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brothers the priests, and for themselves.

²⁰همۀ قوم اسرائیل که از تبعید برگشته بودند و تمام آنهائی که از کار های زشت غیر یهودیان ساکن آن سرزمین دست کشیده به پرستش خداوند، خدای اسرائیل روی آورده بودند، از گوشت قربانی ها خوردند.آن ها با خوشی و شادمانی عید فطیر را به مدت هفت روز جشن گرفتند. همه خوشحال بودند، زیرا خداوند آن ها را مورد توجه پادشاه آشور قرار داده بود در آبادی مجدد عبادتگاه خدای اسرائیل از حمایت او برخوردار بودند.

²¹The children of Israel who had come again out of the captivity, and all such as had separated themselves to them from the filthiness of the nations of the land, to seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, ate,

²¹آن ها با خوشی و شادمانی عید فطیر را به مدت هفت روز جشن گرفتند. همه خوشحال بودند، زیرا خداوند آن ها را مورد توجه پادشاه آشور قرار داده بود در آبادی مجدد عبادتگاه خدای اسرائیل از حمایت او برخوردار بودند.

²²and kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy: for Yahweh had made them joyful, and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, to strengthen their hands in the work of God’s house, the God of Israel.
