1Now it happened in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all of the fortified cities of Judah, and captured them.
1در سال چهاردهم سلطنت حزقیا، سِناخِریب پادشاه آشور به شهرهای مستحکم یهودا حمله برد و همه را تسخیر کرد.
2The king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to king Hezekiah with a large army. He stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool in the fuller’s field highway.
2بعد به رَبشاقی، قوماندان قوای خود هدایت داد تا با لشکر بزرگی از لاکیش به اورشلیم پیش حزقیا پادشاه برود. او در کنار جویچۀ حوض بالائی، واقع بر سر شاهراه «مزرعۀ رختشویها» اردو زد.
3Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder came out to him.
3اِلیاقِیم، پسر حِلقیا، ناظم دربار حزقیا، شِبنای منشی و یوآخ، پسر آساف، خبرنگار، پیش او رفتند.
4Rabshakeh said to them, “Now tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, “What confidence is this in which you trust?
4قوماندان قوای آشور به آن ها گفت: «بروید این پیام پادشاه بزرگ آشور را به حزقیا برسانید: تو به چه چیز خود می بالی؟
5I say that your counsel and strength for the war are only vain words. Now in whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
5آیا فکر می کنی که می توانی با سخنان خشک و خالی قدرت و مهارت نظامی خود را نشان بدهی؟ به هوای چه کسی هستی که علیه من تمرد می کنی؟
6Behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
6اگر به مصر متکی هستی، بدان که آن عصای نَی شکسته دست هر کسی را که به آن تکیه کند مجروح می سازد. اتکاء به فرعون، پادشاه مصر هم همان نتیجه را دارد.
7But if you tell me, ‘We trust in Yahweh our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar?’”
7اما اگر ادعا دارید که خداوند، خدای تان تکیه گاه شما است، بدانید که همین حزقیا معابد او را که بر فراز تپه ها بودند، ویران کرد و به مردم دستور داد که در برابر قربانگاه اورشلیم عبادت کنند.
8Now therefore, please make a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.
8حالا من به وکالت آقای خود، پادشاه آشور با شما شرط می بندم که اگر بتوانید دو هزار اسپ سوار پیدا کنید من دو هزار اسپ می دهم که آن ها سوار شوند.
9How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
9حتی اگر پادشاه مصر به شما عراده و سوار نیز بفرستد، باز هم در برابر کوچکترین فردی از جملۀ خادمین آقایم مقاومت کرده نمی توانید.
10Have I come up now without Yahweh against this land to destroy it? Yahweh said to me, “Go up against this land, and destroy it.”’”
10برعلاوه، من بدون امر خداوند به اینجا نیامده ام، بلکه او خودش مرا به این سرزمین فرستاد تا آنرا نابود کنم.»
11Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it; and don’t speak to us in the Jews’ language in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”
11اِلیاقِیم، شِبنا و یوآخ به او گفتند: «لطفاً با ما بزبان ارامی حرف بزن، چونکه ما آنرا می دانیم. بزبان عبری صحبت مکن، زیرا کسانیکه بالای دیوار هستند می شنوند.»
12But Rabshakeh said, “Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?”
12اما رَبشاقی گفت: «آیا فکر می کنید که آقای من مرا فرستاد تا تنها با آقای تان و با شما صحبت کنیم و به سایر مردم چیزی نگوئیم؟ آن ها هم مثل شما محکوم به مرگ هستند. آن ها هم باید نجاست خود را بخورند و ادرار خود را بنوشند.»
13Then Rabshakeh stood, and called out with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, “Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!
13آنگاه رَبشاقی با صدای بلند بزبان عبری خطاب به کسانی که بالای دیوار بودند کرده گفت: «به پیام پادشاه بزرگ آشور گوش دهید!
14Thus says the king, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you.
14نگذارید که حزقیا شما را فریب بدهد. او فکر می کند که می تواند شما را از دست ما برهاند.
15Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, “Yahweh will surely deliver us. This city won’t be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”’
15او می گوید که به خدا متکی باشید تا شما را نجات بدهد و این شهر به دست پادشاه آشور نمی افتد، اما شما نباید حرف او را باور کنید.
16Don’t listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and each of you eat from his vine, and each one from his fig tree, and each one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;
16به سخنان او گوش ندهید، زیرا پادشاه آشور چنین می گوید: با من صلح کنید از شهر بیرون آئید و تسلیم شوید، آنگاه همۀ شما از تاک تان انگور بچینید و از انجیر تان بخورید و از چشمۀ تان بنوشید
17until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
17تا وقتیکه من بیایم و شما را به یک کشور دیگر که مثل کشور خود تان پُر از غله، شراب، نان و تاکهای انگور است، ببرم.
18Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, “Yahweh will deliver us.” Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?
18نگذارید که حزقیا شما را گمراه سازد و بگوید که خداوند شما را نجات می دهد. آیا تا به حال خدایانِ کشورهای دیگر توانسته اند که خود را از چنگ پادشاه آشور برهانند؟
19Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
19خدایانِ شهرهای حمات، اَرفاد و سفرایم کجا هستند؟ آیا توانستند سامره را نجات بدهند؟
20Who are they among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Yahweh should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”
20کدامیک از خدایان این شهرها توانستند کشور خود را از چنگ پادشاه ما آزاد سازد تا خداوند شما بتواند اورشلیم را نجات بدهد؟»
21But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king’s commandment was, “Don’t answer him.”
21کسانی که بر سر دیوار بودند، چیزی نگفتند، زیرا پادشاه امر کرده بود که خاموش باشند.بعد اِلیاقِیم، شِبنا و یوآخ لباسهای خود را پاره کرده پیش حزقیا رفتند و آنچه را رَبشاقی گفته بود برایش بیان کردند.
22Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
22بعد اِلیاقِیم، شِبنا و یوآخ لباسهای خود را پاره کرده پیش حزقیا رفتند و آنچه را رَبشاقی گفته بود برایش بیان کردند.
