1But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.
1یونس از این امر بسیار ناراحت و خشمگین شد
2He prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Please, Yahweh, wasn’t this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm.
2و پیش خداوند دعا کرد و گفت: «ای خداوند، وقتی در وطن خود بودم می دانستم که تو این کار را می کنی و به همین دلیل خواستم که به ترشیش فرار کنم. من می دانستم که تو کریم و رحیمی، بزودی قهر نمی شوی، بسیار مهربان هستی، همیشه حاضری که ارادۀ خود را عوض نمائی و مردم را مجازات نکنی.
3Therefore now, Yahweh, take, I beg you, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.”
3حالا ای خداوند، بگذار که بمیرم، زیرا برای من مردن از زنده ماندن بهتر است.»
4Yahweh said, “Is it right for you to be angry?”
4خداوند در جواب یونس فرمود: «تو چرا باید قهر شوی؟»
5Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made himself a booth, and sat under it in the shade, until he might see what would become of the city.
5یونس از شهر بیرون رفت و در قسمت شرقی شهر نشست. درآنجا سایبانی برای خود ساخت و زیر سایه اش قرار گرفت و منتظر این بود که ببیند در نینوا چه اتفاقی رخ می دهد.
6Yahweh God prepared a vine, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the vine.
6پس خداوند، خدا در آنجا گیاهی را رویانید تا بر یونس سایه کند که راحت تر باشد. یونس بخاطر سایۀ این گیاه بی نهایت خوشحال شد.
7But God prepared a worm at dawn the next day, and it chewed on the vine, so that it withered.
7اما سپیده دم روز بعد بفرمان خدا گیاه را کِرم زد و خشک شد.
8It happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
8بعد از اینکه آفتاب بالا آمد، خدا یک بادِ گرم شرقی را فرستاد. چون آفتاب بر یونس تابید، او بی حال شد و از خدا طلب مرگ کرد و گفت: «برای من مردن از زنده ماندن بهتر است.»
9God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the vine?” He said, “I am right to be angry, even to death.”
9خداوند به یونس فرمود: «آیا ضرور است که بخاطر یک گیاه خشمگین شوی؟» یونس گفت: «من حق دارم که تا حد مرگ خشمگین شوم.»
10Yahweh said, “You have been concerned for the vine, for which you have not labored, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night.
10خداوند فرمود: «این گیاه در عرض یک شب روئید و روز بعد خشک شد. تو برای آن هیچ زحمت نکشیدی و آنرا رُشد و نمو ندادی، اما دلت بحالش می سوزد؟پس آیا دل من برای شهر بزرگ نینوا نسوزد؟ در آن شهر بیشتر از یکصد و بیست هزار نفر زندگی می کنند که دست چپ و راست خود را نمی شناسند. برعلاوه حیوانات زیادی هم در آنجا وجود دارند.»
11Shouldn’t I be concerned for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who can’t discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much livestock?”
11پس آیا دل من برای شهر بزرگ نینوا نسوزد؟ در آن شهر بیشتر از یکصد و بیست هزار نفر زندگی می کنند که دست چپ و راست خود را نمی شناسند. برعلاوه حیوانات زیادی هم در آنجا وجود دارند.»
