¹It happened, when all the nation had completely passed over the Jordan, that Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

¹وقتیکه همه مردم به سلامتی از دریا عبور کردند، خداوند به یوشع فرمود:

²“Take twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

²«به آن دوازده نفریکه برای وظیفۀ خاص انتحاب شده بودند، بگو که هرکدام یک سنگ را از همان جای خشک دریا که کاهنان ایستاده اند بگیرند و به جائیکه امشب خیمه می زنید، بگذارند.»

³and command them, saying, ‘Take from out of the middle of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging place, where you will lodge tonight.’”

³پس یوشع آن دوازده نفر نمایندۀ قبایل اسرائیل را فراخوانده

⁴Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

⁴به آن ها گفت: «در دریای اُردن، جائیکه صندوق پیمان خداوند، خدای تان است، بروید و هر کدام تان یک سنگ را به نمایندگی از یک قبیلۀ اسرائیل بر شانۀ خود ببرید.

⁵Joshua said to them, “Pass over before the ark of Yahweh your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you pick up a stone and put it on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

⁵آن دوازده سنگ، کارهای بزرگ خداوند را بیاد می آورند که برای آن ها انجام داده است. و در آینده چون اولادۀ تان بپرسند که این منار یادگار برای چیست.

⁶that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do you mean by these stones?’

⁶شما به آن ها بگوئید که وقتی صندوق پیمان خداوند از دریای اُردن عبور می کرد جریان آب قطع شد. بنابران، این سنگها خاطرۀ همیشگی این واقعۀ مهم خواهد بود.»

⁷then you shall tell them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’”

⁷آن ها امر یوشع را بجا آوردند. و طبق فرمان خداوند به یوشع، آن ها دوازده سنگ را به نمایندگی از دوازده قبیلۀ اسرائیل از دریای اُردن برده در جائیکه خیمه گاه شان بود، قرار دادند.

⁸The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

⁸یوشع هم دوازده سنگ را گرفته آن ها را در بین دریای اُردن، جائیکه کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند ایستاده بودند، گذاشت. (آن سنگها تا به حال در همانجا قرار دارند.)

⁹Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.

⁹کاهنان در جای خود باقی ماندند تا همه اوامر خداوند که ذریعۀ موسی به یوشع داده شده بود، موبمو اجراء شدند. در عین حال، مردم با عجله از بستر دریا عبور کردند.

¹⁰For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Yahweh commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over.

¹⁰بعد از آنکه همگی به آن طرف دریا رسیدند، کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند پیشاپیش مردم براه افتادند.

¹¹It happened, when all the people had completely passed over, that the ark of Yahweh passed over, with the priests, in the presence of the people.

¹¹مردان قبیلۀ رؤبین، جاد و نیم قبیلۀ مَنَسّی قرار هدایت موسی پیشتر از مردم دیگر حرکت کردند.

¹²The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them.

¹²و در حدود چهل هزار نفر، همگی مسلح و آماده برای جنگ از صحرای اریحا گذشتند.

¹³About forty thousand men, ready and armed for war passed over before Yahweh to battle, to the plains of Jericho.

¹³کارهای بزرگ خداوند در آن روز، یوشع را در نظر مردم صاحب عزت و قابل احترام ساخت. و او را مثل موسی در سراسر عمرش با نگاه قدر و بزرگواری می دیدند.

¹⁴On that day, Yahweh magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

¹⁴خداوند به یوشع فرمود: «به کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند بگو که از دریای اُردن خارج شوند.»

¹⁵Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

¹⁵پس یوشع امر کرد و آن ها از دریا بیرون آمدند.

¹⁶“Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.”

¹⁶و همینکه کاهنان از دریای اُردن خارج شدند و پای به خشکه گذاشتند، آب دریا دوباره به جریان آمد و دریا مثل سابق لبالب پُر شد.

¹⁷Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, “Come up out of the Jordan!”

¹⁷روزیکه مردم اسرائیل از دریای اُردن عبور کردند، روز دهم ماه اول سال (مطابق دهم حمل) بود و آن ها در جِلجال، در سرحد شرقی اریحا خیمه زدند.

¹⁸It happened, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh had come up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks, as before.

¹⁸یوشع در آنجا دوازده سنگی را که از دریای اُردن آورده بودند، بصورت مُناری بالای هم قرار داد.

¹⁹The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

¹⁹آنگاه خطاب به مردم کرده گفت: «در آینده وقتی فرزندان تان بپرسند که این سنگها را برای چه در اینجا قرار داده اند،

²⁰Joshua set up those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, in Gilgal.

²⁰شما برای شان بگوئید که این سنگها به یادبود روزی در اینجا مانده شدند که مردم اسرائیل از بستر خشک دریای اُردن گذشتند.

²¹He spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean?’

²¹بگوئید که خداوند، خدای ما آب دریای اُردن را خشک کرد و تا زمانی آنرا خشک نگهداشت که همگی از دریا عبور کردند. درست مثل همان معجزه ایکه چهل سال پیش بوقوع پیوست، یعنی وقتیکه خداوند آب بحیرۀ احمر را خشک کرد.و تا مردم روی زمین همه بدانند که قدرت خداوند چقدر عظیم است و شما هم از خداوند، خدای خود همیشه بترسید و به او احترام کنید.»

²²Then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

²²و تا مردم روی زمین همه بدانند که قدرت خداوند چقدر عظیم است و شما هم از خداوند، خدای خود همیشه بترسید و به او احترام کنید.»

²³For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until you had passed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , which he dried up from before us, until we had passed over;

²⁴that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Yahweh, that it is mighty; that you may fear Yahweh your God forever.’”
