1It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Yahweh, “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. saying, “Who should go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?”
1بعد از وفات یوشع، قوم اسرائیل از حضور خداوند مشورت خواسته پرسیدند: «کدام قبیله اول به جنگ کنعانیان برود؟»
2Yahweh said, “Judah shall go up. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.”
2خداوند فرمود: «قبیلۀ یهودا باید اول برود و من آن سرزمین را به آن ها می دهم.»
3Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot.” So Simeon went with him.
3پس قبیلۀ یهودا به قبیلۀ شَمعون گفت: «به جاییکه برای ما تعیین شده است بیائید تا با کنعانیان جنگ کنیم. بعد ما به کمک شما می آئیم تا حق زمین خود را به دست آورید.» پس سپاه شَمعون با عساکر یهودا یکجا شده براه افتادند.
4Judah went up; and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they struck of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
4و به کمک خداوند، کنعانیان و فِرزِیان را شکست دادند و در نتیجه، ده هزار نفر از دشمنان را در بازِق بقتل رساندند. ادونی بازِق فرار کرد، اما عساکر اسرائیلی بزودی او را یافتند و شست دست و پای او را بریدند.
5They found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
5ادونی بازِق گفت: «من به همین طور شست دست و پای هفتاد پادشاه را بریدم. و آن ها خُرده های دسترخوان مرا می خوردند. بنابران، خدا مرا به جزای عملم رساند.» بعد او را به اورشلیم آوردند و او در همانجا مُرد.
6But Adoni-Bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
6عساکر یهودا شهر اورشلیم را تصرف کردند و باشندگان آن را با شمشیر کشتند. و شهر را آتش زدند.
7Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, scavenged under my table: as I have done, so God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” has requited me.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
7سپس سپاه یهودا به جنگ کنعانیان که در کوهستان، در جنوب و در وادی زندگی می کردند، رفتند.
8The children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
8بعد با کنعانیان مقیم حِبرون که قبلاً قریۀ اَربع نامیده می شد، جنگ کردند و شیشای، اخیمان و تَلمَی را شکست دادند.
9Afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, and in the South, and in the lowland.
9از آنجا به شهر دَبیر حمله کردند. (نام دَبیر پیش از آن قریۀ سَفیر بود.)
10Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron (now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba); and they struck Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
10کالیب گفت: «هر کسیکه قریۀ سَفیر را فتح کند من دختر خود، عَکسه را به او می دهم.»
11From there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir before was Kiriath Sepher.)
11و عُتنِئیل پسر قناز، برادر کوچک کالیب آن شهر را فتح کرد و کالیب دختر خود را به او داد.
12Caleb said, “He who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.”
12وقتی پیش او آمد، عَکسه او را تشویق کرد که از پدرش، کالیب یک مزرعه را بخواهد. عَکسه از الاغ خود پیاده شد و کالیب از او پرسید: «چه می خواهی؟»
13Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
13عَکسه گفت: «به من یک تحفه بده. چون مرا در جنوب زمین دادی، پس چند چشمۀ آب هم برایم بده.» و کالیب چشمه های بالا و پائین را به او داد.
14It happened, when she came, that she got him to ask her father for a field: and she alighted from off her donkey; and Caleb said to her, “What would you like?”
14اولادۀ قَینی، از نسل خُسر موسی، با قبیلۀ یهودا از اریحا به بیابان یهودا که در جنوب عَراد است، رفتند و با مردم آنجا زندگی کردند.
15She said to him, “Give me a blessing; for that you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water.” Then Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
15بعد سپاه یهودا با همراهی عساکر شَمعون به جنگ کنعانی های که در شهر صَفَت زندگی می کردند، رفتند. و آن شهر را بکلی ویران کردند و نامش را به حُرما (یعنی ویران) تبدیل نمودند.
16The children of the Kenite, Moses’ brother-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.
16عساکر یهودا همچنین غزه، اَشقَلُون، عِقرون و دهات اطراف آن ها را تصرف کردند.
17Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they struck the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. The name of the city was called Hormah.
17و خداوند در تصرف کوهستان به آن ها کمک کرد. اما آن ها نتوانستند باشندگان وادی را بیرون برانند، زیرا آن ها عراده های جنگی آهنی داشتند.
18Also Judah took Gaza with its border, and Ashkelon with its border, and Ekron with its border.
18شهر حِبرون را، قرار هدایت موسی، به کالیب دادند و سه پسر عَناق را از آنجا بیرون راندند.
19Yahweh was with Judah; and drove out the inhabitants of the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
19اما مردم بنیامین یبوسیان مقیم اورشلیم را خارج نکردند، بنابران، آن ها تا به امروز با مردم بنیامین زندگی می کنند.
20They gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had spoken: and he drove out there the three sons of Anak.
20مردم قبیلۀ یوسف هم رفتند و به شهر بیت ئیل حمله کردند و خداوند با آن ها بود.
21The children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.
21آن ها جاسوسانی را به بیت ئیل، که حالا بنام لوز یاد می شود، فرستادند.
22The house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel; and Yahweh was with them.
22جاسوسان مردی را دیدند که از شهر خارج می شود. آن ها پیش او رفتند و گفتند: «اگر راه ورود شهر را به ما نشان بدهی ما با تو بخوبی رفتار می کنیم.»
23The house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
23آن مرد راه را به آن ها نشان داد. آن ها رفتند و همۀ مردم شهر را کشتند، اما آن مرد و خانواده اش را رها کردند.
24The watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said to him, “Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.”
24بعد آن مرد به کشور حِتیان رفت و در آنجا شهری را آباد کرد و آنرا لوز نامید که تا به امروز به همین نام یاد می شود.
25He showed them the entrance into the city; and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.
25مردم قبیلۀ مَنَسّی باشندگان بیت شان، تَعنَک، مِجِدو، دور، یِبلعام و دهات اطراف آن ها را بیرون نکردند، بنابران، کنعانیان در همانجا ماندند.
26The man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.
26و چون قوم اسرائیل قویتر شدند، آن ها را وادار به کارهای اجباری ساختند، اما آن ها را مجبور نکردند که از آنجا خارج شوند.
27Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
27مردم قبیلۀ افرایم هم کنعانیان مقیم جازِر را بیرون نراندند و آن ها با مردم افرایم به زندگی ادامه دادند.
28It happened, when Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.
28مردم قبیلۀ زبولون هم باشندگان فِطرون و نَهلول را خارج نکردند، بنابران، کنعانیان در همانجا باقی ماندند و کارگران اجباری بنی اسرائیل شدند.
29Ephraim didn’t drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.
29مردم قبیلۀ اَشیر هم باشندگان شهرهای عَکو، سِیدون، اَحلَب، اَکزِیب، حَلبه، عَفیق و رِحوب را بیرون نکردند، بنابران، مردم اَشیر با کنعانیان باشندۀ آنجا یکجا زندگی می کردند.
30Zebulun didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.
30مردم قبیلۀ نفتالی هم باشندگان شهرهای بیت شمس و بیتعَنات را بیرون نراندند و با کنعانیان آن دو شهر یکجا زندگی می کردند، ولی ساکنان آن دو شهر مجبور بودند که برای مردم نفتالی خدمت کنند.
31Asher didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
31اما اموریان مردم قبیلۀ دان را در کوهستان راندند و به آن ها اجازه نمی دادند که به وادی بیایند.
32but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
32وقتیکه اموریان به اَیَلون، شِعَلبیم و کوه حارَس پراگنده شدند، مردم قبیلۀ یوسف قویتر شد و آن ها را شکست دادند. و اموریان کارگران اجباری آن ها شدند.سرحد اموریان از درۀ عَقرَبیم تا سالع و بالا تر از آن می رسید.
33Naphtali didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.
33سرحد اموریان از درۀ عَقرَبیم تا سالع و بالا تر از آن می رسید.
34The Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill country; for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;
35but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor.
36The border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
