1Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that behold, the place was a place for livestock;
1قبایل رؤبین و جاد که دارای گله های زیاد بودند، چون دیدند که سرزمین یعزیر و جلعاد برای نگهداری گله های شان جای مناسبی است،
2the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying,
2لهذا پیش موسی، اَلِعازار کاهن و رهبران رفته عرض کردند:
3“Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon,
3«این ساحه ای که شامل شهرهای عتاروت، دیبون، یعزیر، نِمرَه، حِشبون، اَلِعالَه، شَبام، نِبو و بَعون است و قوم اسرائیل به کمک خداوند آن را متصرف شد، جای خوبی برای گله های ما است.
4the land which Yahweh struck before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock.”
4بنابرین، از شما خواهش می کنیم ما را مجبور نکنید که به آن طرف دریای اردن برویم، این جا را به ما بدهید.»
5They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession; don’t bring us over the Jordan.”
5موسی به آن ها گفت: «آیا شما می خواهید که در همینجا بمانید و سایر برادران تان به جنگ بروند؟
6Moses said to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to the war, and shall you sit here?
6به چه جرأت می خواهید قوم اسرائیل را از رفتن به سرزمین آن سوی دریای اُردن که خداوند آن را به آن ها داده است دلسرد بسازید؟
7Why do you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which Yahweh has given them?
7پدران شما هم همین کار را کردند وقتی که آن ها را از قادِش بَرنیع فرستادم تا سرزمین موعود را مطالعه و بررسی کنند.
8Your fathers did so when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.
8اما وقتی به وادی اشکول رسیدند و آن سرزمین را دیدند، دوباره برگشتند و قوم اسرائیل را از رفتن به آنجا دلسرد ساختند.
9For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which Yahweh had given them.
9بنابران خداوند قهر شد و قسم خورد که از همه کسانی که از مصر بیرون آمدند و از بیست ساله بالا تر هستند، هیچکدام شان به این سرزمینی که وعدۀ ملکیتش را به ابراهیم، اسحاق و یعقوب داده بود، داخل شده نمی تواند، زیرا آن ها از دل و جان از خداوند پیروی نکردند.
10Yahweh’s anger was kindled in that day, and he swore, saying,
10از آن جمله تنها کالیب، پسر یَفُنه و یوشَع، پسر نون بودند که به خداوند وفادار ماندند.
11‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:
11پس خشم خداوند بر قوم اسرائیل برافروخته شد و آن ها را مدت چهل سال در بیابان سرگردان ساخت تا اینکه همۀ آنهائی که در مقابل خداوند گناه کرده بودند هلاک شدند.
12except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun; because they have followed Yahweh completely.’
12حالا شما نسل گناهکار، جای پدران تان را گرفته اید و می خواهید که غضبِ بیشتر خداوند را بر سر قوم بیاورید.
13Yahweh’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, who had done evil in the sight of Yahweh, was consumed.
13اگر شما بازهم از امر خداوند پیروی نکنید، او دوباره شما را در بیابان ترک می کند و آنوقت خود شما مسئول تباهی خویش خواهید بود.»
14“Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of Yahweh toward Israel.
14پس آن ها گفتند: «اول به ما اجازه بدهید که در اینجا برای گله های خود طویله و برای اطفال خود شهرها بسازیم،
15For if you turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all this people.”
15بعد خود را آماده و مسلح می سازیم و پیشاپیش برادران خود به آن طرف دریای اُردن می رویم تا آن ها را به مُلک و جای شان برسانیم. اما اطفال ما باید در این شهرهای مستحکم که می خواهیم بسازیم بمانند تا از خطر دشمن در امان باشند.
16They came near to him, and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones:
16و تا که تمام مردم مُلک و زمین خود را به دست نیاورند، ما بر نمی گردیم.
17but we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the children of Israel, until we have brought them to their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
17ما در آن طرف دریای اُردن زمین نمی خواهیم، زیرا ما سهم خود را در این طرف، یعنی در شرق دریای اُردن گرفته ایم.»
18We will not return to our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.
18موسی گفت: «اگر براستی می خواهید این کار را بکنید، پس در حضور خداوند برای جنگ آماده شوید.
19For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan, and forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.”
19تمام مردان جنگی شما از دریای اُردن عبور کنند و تا که خداوند همه دشمنان را تار و مار سازد در همانجا بمانند.
20Moses said to them, “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before Yahweh to the war,
20و بعد از آنکه آن سرزمین را در حضور خداوند متصرف شدید، می توانید که برگردید، زیرا وظیفۀ خود را در مقابل خداوند و قوم اسرائیل انجام داده اید و آنوقت زمینهای شرق اُردن را از جانب خداوند مالک می شوید.
21and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before Yahweh, until he has driven out his enemies from before him,
21اما اگر به وعدۀ تان وفا نکنید، در برابر خداوند گناهکار شمرده می شوید و بخاطر گناه تان جزا می بینید.
22and the land is subdued before Yahweh; then afterward you shall return, and be guiltless towards Yahweh, and towards Israel; and this land shall be to you for a possession before Yahweh.
22حالا بروید و برای کودکان تان شهرها و برای گله های خود طویله بسازید، اما به آنچه که گفتید باید عمل کنید!»
23“But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against Yahweh; and be sure your sin will find you out.
23مردم جاد و رؤبین به موسی گفتند: «ما از امر تو پیروی می کنیم.
24Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.”
24کودکان، زنان، رمه و گلۀ ما در شهرهای جلعاد می مانند.
25The children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do as my lord commands.
25خود ما قراریکه امر فرمودی، آماده و مسلح شده برای خداوند به جنگ می رویم.»
26Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock, shall be there in the cities of Gilead;
26پس موسی به اَلِعازار کاهن، یوشع پسر نون و رؤسای قبایل اسرائیل هدایت داده گفت:
27but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before Yahweh to battle, as my lord says.”
27«اگر مردان قبایل جاد و رؤبین آماده شدند و همراه شما به آن طرف دریای اُردن برای خداوند به جنگ رفتند، آنوقت، پس از آنکه آن سرزمین را تصرف کردند، باید سرزمین جلعاد را به آن ها بدهید.
28So Moses commanded concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the children of Israel.
28اما اگر با شما نرفتند، در آنصورت از سرزمین کنعان سهمی به آن ها داده شود.»
29Moses said to them, “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every man who is armed to battle, before Yahweh, and the land shall be subdued before you; then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:
29مردان قبایل جاد و رؤبین گفتند: «ما از امر خداوند پیروی می کنیم.
30but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”
30بفرمان او ما از دریای اُردن عبور کرده به سرزمین کنعان داخل می شویم و می جنگیم، اما زمینهای این طرف دریای اُردن باید به ما تعلق گیرند.»
31The children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, “As Yahweh has said to your servants, so will we do.
31موسی تمامی ساحۀ کشور سیحون، پادشاه اموریان و عوج پادشاه باشان را با شهرها و دهات آن ها به قبایل جاد و رؤبین و نیم قبیلۀ مَنَسّی (پسر یوسف) تعیین کرد.
32We will pass over armed before Yahweh into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”
32مردان قبیلۀ جاد شهرهای دیبون، عتاروت، عروعیر، عتروت، شوفان، یعزیر، یُجبَها، بیت نِمرَه و بیت هاران را آباد کردند. همۀ این شهرها دارای حصار و طویله برای گوسفندها بودند.
33Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, according to its cities and borders, even the cities of the surrounding land.
33مردم قبیلۀ رؤبین شهرهای حِشبون، اَلِیعالَه، قِریَتایم، نِبو و بَعل معون و سِبمه را ساختند و نام بعضی از این شهرها را که متصرف شده و از سر آباد کرده بودند، تغییر دادند.
34The children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
34خانوادۀ ماخیر، از قبیلۀ مَنَسّی به جلعاد رفتند و آن شهر را متصرف شدند و باشندگان آن را که اموریان بودند از آنجا بیرون راندند.
35and Atrothshophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,
35پس موسی شهر جلعاد را به خانوادۀ ماخیر داد و آن ها در آنجا سکونت اختیار کردند.
36and Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran: fortified cities, and folds for sheep.
36مردم یایر، که آن ها هم مربوط قبیلۀ مَنَسّی بودند، دهات اطراف جلعاد را اشغال کردند و آن ساحه را حووت یایر نامیدند.شخص دیگری بنام نوبح به شهر قنات حمله کرد و آنجا را متصرف شد و آنرا بنام خود، یعنی نوبح نامید.
37The children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,
37شخص دیگری بنام نوبح به شهر قنات حمله کرد و آنجا را متصرف شد و آنرا بنام خود، یعنی نوبح نامید.
38and Nebo, and Baal Meon, (their names being changed), and Sibmah: and they gave other names to the cities which they built.
39The children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were therein.
40Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh; and he lived therein.
41Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its towns, and called them Havvoth Jair.
42Nobah went and took Kenath, and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
