1Yahweh said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, ‘A priest shall not defile himself for the dead among his people;
1Herra sanoi Moosekselle: "Sano papeille, Aaronin pojille, näin: Älköön kukaan pappi saattako itseään epäpuhtaaksi menemällä edes sukuunsa kuuluvan vainajan lähelle,
2except for his relatives that are near to him: for his mother, for his father, for his son, for his daughter, for his brother,
2paitsi jos vainaja on hänen oman perheensä jäsen: äiti, isä, poika, tytär tai veli.
3and for his virgin sister who is near to him, who has had no husband; for her he may defile himself.
3Epäpuhtaaksi hän saa tulla myös, jos vainaja on hänen luonaan asunut naimaton sisar.
4He shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.
4Mutta hän ei saa saattaa itseään epäpuhtaaksi menemällä sellaisen vainajan lähelle, jolle hän on sukua avioliiton kautta.
5“‘They shall not shave their heads, neither shall they shave off the corners of their beards, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.
5"Papit eivät saa ajaa päätään paljaaksi, eivät leikata partaansa sivuilta eivätkä viillellä merkkejä ruumiiseensa.
6They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God; for they offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, the bread of their God; therefore they shall be holy.
6Heidän tulee olla Jumalalleen pyhitettyjä, eivätkä he saa loukata Jumalansa kunniaa. He uhraavat Herralle kuuluvia tuliuhreja, Jumalalle tuotavaa ruokaa. Sen tähden heidän on oltava pyhät ja puhtaat.
7“‘They shall not marry a woman who is a prostitute, or profane; neither shall they marry a woman divorced from her husband: for he is holy to his God.
7"Pappi ei saa ottaa vaimokseen porttoa eikä neitsyytensä menettänyttä naista, ei myöskään miehensä hylkäämää naista, sillä papin on oltava Jumalalle pyhitetty.
8You shall sanctify him therefore; for he offers the bread of your God: he shall be holy to you: for I Yahweh, who sanctify you, am holy.
8Teidän tulee kohdella pappia pyhänä, koska hän uhraa ruokaa teidän Jumalallenne. Hän on teille pyhä, sillä minä, joka olen pyhittänyt teidät omaksi kansakseni, olen pyhä.
9“‘The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the prostitute, she profanes her father: she shall be burned with fire.
9Jos papin tytär häpäisee itsensä harjoittamalla haureutta, hän samalla häpäisee isänsä; siksi hänet on poltettava.
10“‘He who is the high priest among his brothers, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, nor tear his clothes;
10"Ylipappi on sukunsa joukossa korkein: hänen päänsä on voideltu pyhällä öljyllä, hänet on vihitty virkaansa ja puettu pyhiin vaatteisiin. Hänen ei sovi surun merkiksi avata hiuksiaan levälleen eikä repiä vaatteitaan.
11neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;
11Hän ei saa saattaa itseään epäpuhtaaksi menemällä kuolleen lähelle, ei edes surressaan isäänsä tai äitiään.
12neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him. I am Yahweh.
12Hän ei saa suruaikanaan poistua pyhäköstä, ettei hän häpäisisi Jumalansa pyhäkköä, sillä hänet on voideltu ja vihitty Herran pyhällä öljyllä. Minä olen Herra.
13“‘He shall take a wife in her virginity.
13Vaimokseen hänen tulee ottaa neitsyt.
14A widow, or one divorced, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute, these he shall not marry: but a virgin of his own people shall he take as a wife.
14Hän ei saa ottaa itselleen vaimoksi leskeä, miehensä hylkäämää eikä neitsyytensä menettänyttä naista eikä porttoa, vaan hänen tulee ottaa vaimokseen isänsä sukuun kuuluva neitsyt,
15He shall not profane his seed among his people: for I am Yahweh who sanctifies him.’”
15ettei hän saisi pappissukuun kelpaamattomia jälkeläisiä. Minä, Herra, olen pyhittänyt hänet omaksi palvelijakseni."
16Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
16Herra sanoi Moosekselle:
17“Say to Aaron, ‘None of your seed throughout their generations who has a blemish, may approach to offer the bread of his God.
17"Sano Aaronille: Kukaan jälkeläisesi, jolla on jokin ruumiinvamma, ei saa milloinkaan tulla uhraamaan ruokaa Jumalalle.
18For whatever man he is that has a blemish, he shall not draw near: a blind man, or a lame, or he who has a flat nose, or any deformity,
18Uhraamaan ei saa tulla kukaan, joka on sokea, rampa tai kasvoiltaan tai ruumiiltaan epämuodostunut,
19or a man who has an injured foot, or an injured hand,
19kukaan, jolta on katkennut jalka tai käsi,
20or hunchbacked, or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye, or an itching disease, or scabs, or who has damaged testicles;
20joka on kyttyräselkäinen tai kitukasvuinen, jonka silmäterä on samentunut tai jolla on ihottuma, rupitauti tai vialliset kivekset.
21no man of the seed of Aaron the priest who has a blemish, shall come near to offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire. Since he has a blemish, he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.
21Kukaan pappi Aaronin suvun jäsen, jolla on jokin vamma, ei saa astua uhraamaan Herralle kuuluvia tuliuhreja; vammansa takia hän on kelpaamaton uhraamaan ruokaa Jumalalle.
22He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.
22Hän saa silti syödä Jumalan ruokaa, sekä erityisen pyhää että pyhää,
23He shall not come near to the veil, nor come near to the altar, because he has a blemish; that he may not profane my sanctuaries, for I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.’”
23mutta väliverhon luo tai alttarin ääreen hän ei saa vammansa vuoksi astua, ettei hän häpäisisi mitään, minkä minä, Herra, olen julistanut pyhäksi."
24So Moses spoke to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel.
24Näin Mooses puhui Aaronille, hänen pojilleen ja kaikille israelilaisille.
