¹Then all Israel gathered themselves to David to Hebron, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

¹ここにイスラエルの人は皆ヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに集まって来て言った、「われわれは、あなたの骨肉です。

²In times past, even when Saul was king, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. Yahweh your God said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over my people Israel.’”

²先にサウルが王であった時にも、あなたはイスラエルを率いて出入りされました。そしてあなたの神、主はあなたに『あなたはわが民イスラエルを牧する者となり、わが民イスラエルの君となるであろう』と言われました」。

³So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Yahweh; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of Yahweh by Samuel.

³このようにイスラエルの長老が皆ヘブロンにいる王のもとに来たので、ダビデはヘブロンで主の前に彼らと契約を結んだ。そして彼らは、サムエルによって語られた主の言葉に従ってダビデに油を注ぎ、イスラエルの王とした。

⁴David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (the same is Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.

⁴ダビデとすべてのイスラエルはエルサレムへ行った。エルサレムはすなわちエブスであって、そこにはその地の住民であるエブスびとがいた。

⁵The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not come in here.” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion. The same is the city of David.

⁵エブスの住民はダビデに言った、「あなたはここにはいってはならない」。しかし、ダビデはシオンの要害を取った。これがすなわちダビデの町である。

⁶David said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.” Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.

⁶この時ダビデは言った、「だれでも第一にエブスびとを撃つ者を、かしらとし、将とする」。ゼルヤの子ヨアブが第一にのぼっていったので、かしらとなった。

⁷David lived in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.

⁷そしてダビデがその要害に住んだので人々はこれをダビデの町と名づけた。

⁸He built the city all around, from Millo even around; and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

⁸ダビデはまたその町の周囲すなわちミロから四方に石がきを築き、ヨアブは町のほかの部分を繕った。

⁹David grew greater and greater; for Yahweh of Armies was with him.

⁹こうしてダビデはますます大いなる者となった。万軍の主が彼とともにおられたからである。

¹⁰Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.

¹⁰ダビデの勇士のおもなものは次のとおりである。彼らはイスラエルのすべての人とともにダビデに力をそえて国を得させ、主がイスラエルについて言われた言葉にしたがって、彼を王とした人々である。

¹¹This is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, the chief of the thirty; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and killed them at one time.

¹¹ダビデの勇士の数は次のとおりである。すなわち三人の長であるハクモニびとの子ヤショベアム、彼はやりをふるって三百人に向かい、一度にこれを殺した者である。

¹²After him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.

¹²彼の次はアホアびとドドの子エレアザルで、三勇士のひとりである。

¹³He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where there was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

¹³彼はダビデとともにパスダミムにいたが、ペリシテびとがそこに集まって来て戦った。そこに一面に大麦のはえた地所があった。民はペリシテびとの前から逃げた。

¹⁴They stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and killed the Philistines; and Yahweh saved them by a great victory.

¹⁴しかし彼は地所の中に立ってこれを防ぎ、ペリシテびとを殺した。そして主は大いなる勝利を与えて彼らを救われた。

¹⁵Three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the army of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

¹⁵三十人の長たちのうちの三人は下っていってアドラムのほらあなの岩の所にいるダビデのもとへ行った。時にペリシテびとの軍勢はレパイムの谷に陣を取っていた。

¹⁶David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

¹⁶その時ダビデは要害におり、ペリシテびとの先陣はベツレヘムにあったが、

¹⁷David longed, and said, “Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”

¹⁷ダビデはせつに望んで、「だれかベツレヘムの門のかたわらにある井戸の水をわたしに飲ませてくれるとよいのだが」と言った。

¹⁸The three broke through the army of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to Yahweh,

¹⁸そこでその三人はペリシテびとの陣を突き通って、ベツレヘムの門のかたわらにある井戸の水をくみ取って、ダビデのもとに携えて来た。しかしダビデはそれを飲もうとはせず、それを主の前に注いで、

¹⁹and said, “My God forbid it me, that I should do this! Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in jeopardy?” For they risked their lives to bring it. Therefore he would not drink it. The three mighty men did these things.

¹⁹言った、「わが神よ、わたしは断じてこれをいたしません。命をかけて行ったこの人たちの血をどうしてわたしは飲むことができましょう。彼らは命をかけてこの水をとって来たのです」。それゆえ、ダビデはこの水を飲もうとはしなかった。三勇士はこのことをおこなった。

²⁰Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred and killed them, and had a name among the three.

²⁰ヨアブの兄弟アビシャイは三十人の長であった。彼はやりをふるって三百人に立ち向かい、これを殺して三人のほかに名を得た。

²¹Of the three, he was more honorable than the two, and was made their captain: however he didn’t attain to the three.

²¹彼は三十人のうち、最も尊ばれた者で、彼らのかしらとなった。しかし、かの三人には及ばなかった。

²²Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he killed the two sons of Ariel of Moab: he went down also and killed a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow.

²²エホヤダの子ベナヤは、カブジエル出身の勇士であって、多くのてがらを立てた。彼はモアブのアリエルのふたりの子を撃ち殺した。彼はまた雪の日に下っていって、穴の中でししを撃ち殺した。

²³He killed an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear.

²³彼はまた身のたけ五キュビトばかりのエジプトびとを撃ち殺した。そのエジプトびとは手に機の巻棒ほどのやりを持っていたが、ベナヤはつえをとって彼の所へ下って行き、エジプトびとの手から、やりをもぎとり、そのやりをもって彼を殺した。

²⁴Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did these things, and had a name among the three mighty men.

²⁴エホヤダの子ベナヤは、これらの事を行って三勇士のほかに名を得た。

²⁵Behold, he was more honorable than the thirty, but he didn’t attain to the three: and David set him over his guard.

²⁵彼は三十人のうちに有名であったが、かの三人には及ばなかった。ダビデは彼を侍衛の長とした。

²⁶Also the mighty men of the armies: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

²⁶軍団のうちの勇士はヨアブの兄弟アサヘル。ベツレヘム出身のドドの子エルハナン。

²⁷Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,

²⁷ハロデ出身のシャンマ。ペロンびとヘレヅ。

²⁸Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite,

²⁸テコア出身のイッケシの子イラ。アナトテ出身のアビエゼル。

²⁹Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,

³⁰Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite,

³¹Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,

³²Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite,

³⁴the sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shagee the Hararite,

³⁷Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai,

³⁸Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Hagri,

⁴⁶Eliel the Mahavite, and Jeribai, and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite,
