²It happened in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

²しかし三年目にユダの王ヨシャパテがイスラエルの王の所へ下っていったので、

³The king of Israel said to his servants, “You know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we are still, and don’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”

³イスラエルの王はその家来たちに言った、「あなたがたは、ラモテ・ギレアデがわれわれの所有であることを知っていますか。しかもなおわれわれはスリヤの王の手からそれを取らずに黙っているのです」。

⁴He said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

⁴彼はヨシャパテに言った、「ラモテ・ギレアデで戦うためにわたしと一緒に行かれませんか」。ヨシャパテはイスラエルの王に言った、「わたしはあなたと一つです。わたしの民はあなたの民と一つです。わたしの馬はあなたの馬と一つです」。

⁵Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the word of Yahweh.”

⁵ヨシャパテはまたイスラエルの王に言った、「まず、主の言葉を伺いなさい」。

⁶Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go against Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” They said, “Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

⁶そこでイスラエルの王は預言者四百人ばかりを集めて、彼らに言った、「わたしはラモテ・ギレアデに戦いに行くべきでしょうか、あるいは控えるべきでしょうか」。彼らは言った、「上っていきなさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。

⁷But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of him?”

⁷ヨシャパテは言った、「ここには、われわれの問うべき主の預言者がほかにいませんか」。

⁸The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”

⁸イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「われわれが主に問うことのできる人が、まだひとりいます。イムラの子ミカヤです。彼はわたしについて良い事を預言せず、ただ悪い事だけを預言するので、わたしは彼を憎んでいます」。ヨシャパテは言った、「王よ、そう言わないでください」。

⁹Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Quickly get Micaiah the son of Imlah.”

⁹そこでイスラエルの王は役人を呼んで、「急いでイムラの子ミカヤを連れてきなさい」と言った。

¹⁰Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

¹⁰さてイスラエルの王およびユダの王ヨシャパテは王の服を着て、サマリヤの門の入口の広場に、おのおのその王座にすわり、預言者たちは皆その前で預言していた。

¹¹Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘With these you shall push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’”

¹¹ケナアナの子ゼデキヤは鉄の角を造って言った、「主はこう仰せられます、『あなたはこれらの角をもってスリヤびとを突いて彼らを滅ぼしなさい』」。

¹²All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

¹²預言者たちは皆そのように預言して言った、「ラモテ・ギレアデに上っていって勝利を得なさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。

¹³The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “See now, the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.”

¹³さてミカヤを呼びにいった使者は彼に言った、「預言者たちは一致して王に良い事を言いました。どうぞ、あなたも、彼らのひとりの言葉のようにして、良い事を言ってください」。

¹⁴Micaiah said, “As Yahweh lives, what Yahweh says to me, that I will speak.”

¹⁴ミカヤは言った、「主は生きておられます。主がわたしに言われる事を申しましょう」。

¹⁵When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?” He answered him, “Go up and prosper; and Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

¹⁵彼が王の所へ行くと、王は彼に言った、「ミカヤよ、われわれはラモテ・ギレアデに戦いに行くべきでしょうか、あるいは控えるべきでしょうか」。彼は王に言った、「上っていって勝利を得なさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。

¹⁶The king said to him, “How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of Yahweh?”

¹⁶しかし王は彼に言った、「幾たびあなたを誓わせたら、あなたは主の名をもって、ただ真実のみをわたしに告げるでしょうか」。

¹⁷He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, ‘These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.’”

¹⁷彼は言った、「わたしはイスラエルが皆、牧者のない羊のように、山に散っているのを見ました。すると主は『これらの者は飼主がいない。彼らをそれぞれ安らかに、その家に帰らせよ』と言われました」。

¹⁸The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

¹⁸イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「彼がわたしについて良い事を預言せず、ただ悪い事だけを預言すると、あなたに告げたではありませんか」。

¹⁹Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

¹⁹ミカヤは言った、「それゆえ主の言葉を聞きなさい。わたしは主がその玉座にすわり、天の万軍がそのかたわらに、右左に立っているのを見たが、

²⁰Yahweh said, ‘Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One said one thing; and another said another.

²⁰主は『だれがアハブをいざなってラモテ・ギレアデに上らせ、彼を倒れさせるであろうか』と言われました。するとひとりはこの事を言い、ひとりはほかの事を言いました。

²¹A spirit came out and stood before Yahweh, and said, ‘I will entice him.’

²¹その時一つの霊が進み出て、主の前に立ち、『わたしが彼をいざないましょう』と言いました。

²²Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’

²²主は『どのような方法でするのか』と言われたので、彼は『わたしが出て行って、偽りを言う霊となって、すべての預言者の口に宿りましょう』と言いました。そこで主は『おまえは彼をいざなって、それを成し遂げるであろう。出て行って、そうしなさい』と言われました。

²³Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.”

²³それで主は偽りを言う霊をあなたのすべての預言者の口に入れ、また主はあなたの身に起る災を告げられたのです」。

²⁴Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did the Spirit of Yahweh go from me to speak to you?”

²⁴するとケナアナの子ゼデキヤは近寄って、ミカヤのほおを打って言った、「どのようにして主の霊がわたしを離れて、あなたに語りましたか」。

²⁵Micaiah said, “Behold, you will see on that day, when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.”

²⁵ミカヤは言った、「あなたが奥の間にはいって身を隠すその日に、わかるでしょう」。

²⁶The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son.

²⁶イスラエルの王は言った、「ミカヤを捕え、町のつかさアモンと、王の子ヨアシの所へ引いて帰って、

²⁷Say, ‘Thus says the king, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’”

²⁷言いなさい、『王がこう言います、この者を獄屋に入れ、わずかのパンと水をもって彼を養い、わたしが勝利を得て帰ってくるのを待て』」。

²⁸Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, Yahweh has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, all you people!”

²⁸ミカヤは言った、「もしあなたが勝利を得て帰ってこられるならば、主がわたしによって語られなかったのです」。また彼は言った、「あなたがた、すべての民よ、聞きなさい」。

²⁹So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.

²⁹こうしてイスラエルの王とユダの王ヨシャパテはラモテ・ギレアデに上っていった。

³⁰The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but you put on your robes.” The king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

³⁰イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「わたしは姿を変えて、戦いに行きます。あなたは王の服を着けなさい」。イスラエルの王は姿を変えて戦いに行った。

³¹Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.

³¹さて、スリヤの王は、その戦車長三十二人に命じて言った、「あなたがたは、小さい者とも大きい者とも戦わないで、ただイスラエルの王とだけ戦いなさい」。

³²It happened, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, “Surely that is the king of Israel!” and they turned aside to fight against him. Jehoshaphat cried out.

³²戦車長らはヨシャパテを見たとき、これはきっとイスラエルの王だと思ったので、身をめぐらして、これと戦おうとすると、ヨシャパテは呼ばわった。

³³It happened, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

³³戦車長らは彼がイスラエルの王でないのを見たので、彼を追うことをやめて引き返した。

³⁴A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn your hand, and carry me out of the battle; for I am severely wounded.”

³⁴しかし、ひとりの人が何心なく弓をひいて、イスラエルの王の胸当と草摺の間を射たので、彼はその戦車の御者に言った、「わたしは傷を受けた。戦車をめぐらして、わたしを戦場から運び出せ」。

³⁵The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.

³⁵その日戦いは激しくなった。王は戦車の中にささえられて立ち、スリヤびとにむかっていたが、ついに、夕暮になって死んだ。傷の血は戦車の底に流れた。

³⁶A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”

³⁶日の没するころ、軍勢の中に呼ばわる声がした、「めいめいその町へ、めいめいその国へ帰れ」。

³⁷So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

³⁷王は死んで、サマリヤへ携え行かれた。人々は王をサマリヤに葬った。

³⁸They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood where the prostitutes washed themselves; according to the word of Yahweh which he spoke.

³⁸またその戦車をサマリヤの池で洗ったが、犬がその血をなめた。また遊女がそこで身を洗った。主が言われた言葉のとおりである。

³⁹Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

³⁹アハブのそのほかの事績と、彼がしたすべての事と、その建てた象牙の家と、その建てたすべての町は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

⁴⁰So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.

⁴⁰こうしてアハブはその先祖と共に眠って、その子アハジヤが代って王となった。

⁴¹Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

⁴¹アサの子ヨシャパテはイスラエルの王アハブの第四年にユダの王となった。

⁴²Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

⁴²ヨシャパテは王となった時、三十五歳であったが、エルサレムで二十五年世を治めた。その母の名はアズバといい、シルヒの娘であった。

⁴³He walked in all the way of Asa his father; He didn’t turn aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh: however the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

⁴³ヨシャパテは父アサのすべての道に歩み、それを離れることなく、主の目にかなう事をした。ただし高き所は除かなかったので、民はなお高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。

⁴⁴Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

⁴⁴ヨシャパテはまたイスラエルの王と、よしみを結んだ。

⁴⁵Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

⁴⁵ヨシャパテのその他の事績と、彼があらわした勲功およびその戦争については、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

⁴⁶The remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land.

⁴⁶彼は父アサの世になお残っていた神殿男娼たちを国のうちから追い払った。

⁴⁷There was no king in Edom: a deputy was king.

⁴⁷そのころエドムには王がなく、代官が王であった。

⁴⁸Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they didn’t go; for the ships were broken at Ezion Geber.

⁴⁸ヨシャパテはタルシシの船を造って、金を獲るためにオフルに行かせようとしたが、その船はエジオン・ゲベルで難破したため、ついに行かなかった。

⁴⁹Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat would not.

⁴⁹そこでアハブの子アハジヤはヨシャパテに「わたしの家来をあなたの家来と一緒に船で行かせなさい」と言ったが、ヨシャパテは承知しなかった。

⁵⁰Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

⁵⁰ヨシャパテはその先祖と共に眠って、父ダビデの町に先祖と共に葬られ、その子ヨラムが代って王となった。

⁵¹Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.

⁵¹アハブの子アハジヤはユダの王ヨシャパテの第十七年にサマリヤでイスラエルの王となり、二年イスラエルを治めた。

⁵²He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, in which he made Israel to sin.

⁵²彼は主の目の前に悪を行い、その父の道と、その母の道、およびかのイスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの道に歩み、バアルに仕えて、それを拝み、イスラエルの神、主を怒らせた。すべて彼の父がしたとおりであった。

⁵³He served Baal, and worshiped him, and provoked to anger Yahweh, the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
