1The Ziphites came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert?”
1そのころジフびとがギベアにおるサウルのもとにきて言った、「ダビデは荒野の前にあるハキラの山に隠れているではありませんか」。
2Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
2サウルは立って、ジフの荒野でダビデを捜すために、イスラエルのうちから選んだ三千人をひき連れて、ジフの荒野に下った。
3Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the way. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
3サウルは荒野の前の道のかたわらにあるハキラの山に陣を取った。ダビデは荒野にとどまっていたが、サウルが自分のあとを追って荒野にきたのを見て、
4David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had certainly come.
4斥候を出し、サウルが確かにきたのを知った。
5David arose, and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David saw the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army: and Saul lay within the place of the wagons, and the people were encamped around him.
5そしてダビデは立って、サウルが陣を取っている所へ行って、サウルとその軍の長、ネルの子アブネルの寝ている場所を見た。サウルは陣所のうちに寝ていて、民はその周囲に宿営していた。
6Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, “Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp?” Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”
6ダビデは、ヘテびとアヒメレク、およびゼルヤの子で、ヨアブの兄弟であるアビシャイに言った、「だれがわたしと共にサウルの陣に下って行くか」。アビシャイは言った、「わたしが一緒に下って行きます」。
7So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people lay around him.
7こうしてダビデとアビシャイとが夜、民のところへ行ってみると、サウルは陣所のうちに身を横たえて寝ており、そのやりは枕もとに地に突きさしてあった。そしてアブネルと民らとはその周囲に寝ていた。
8Then Abishai said to David, “God has delivered up your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time.”
8アビシャイはダビデに言った、「神はきょう敵をあなたの手に渡されました。どうぞわたしに、彼のやりをもってひと突きで彼を地に刺しとおさせてください。ふたたび突くには及びません」。
9David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him; for who can put forth his hand against Yahweh’s anointed, and be guiltless?”
9しかしダビデはアビシャイに言った、「彼を殺してはならない。主が油を注がれた者に向かって、手をのべ、罪を得ない者があろうか」。
10David said, “As Yahweh lives, Yahweh will strike him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle and perish.
10ダビデはまた言った、「主は生きておられる。主が彼を撃たれるであろう。あるいは彼の死ぬ日が来るであろう。あるいは戦いに下って行って滅びるであろう。
11Yahweh forbid that I should put forth my hand against Yahweh’s anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head, and the jar of water, and let us go.”
11主が油を注がれた者に向かって、わたしが手をのべることを主は禁じられる。しかし今、そのまくらもとにあるやりと水のびんを取りなさい。そしてわれわれは去ろう」。
12So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul’s head; and they went away: and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither did any awake; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Yahweh was fallen on them.
12こうしてダビデはサウルの枕もとから、やりと水のびんを取って彼らは去ったが、だれもそれを見ず、だれも知らず、また、だれも目をさまさず、みな眠っていた。主が彼らを深く眠らされたからである。
13Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain afar off; a great space being between them;
13ダビデは向こう側に渡って行って、遠く離れて山の頂に立った。彼らの間の隔たりは大きかった。
14and David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Don’t you answer, Abner?” Then Abner answered, “Who are you who cries to the king?”
14ダビデは民とネルの子アブネルに呼ばわって言った、「アブネルよ、あなたは答えないのか」。アブネルは答えて言った、「王を呼んでいるあなたはだれか」。
15David said to Abner, “Aren’t you a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord, the king? For one of the people came in to destroy the king your lord.
15ダビデはアブネルに言った、「あなたは男ではないか。イスラエルのうちに、あなたに及ぶ人があろうか。それであるのに、どうしてあなたは主君である王を守らなかったのか。民のひとりが、あなたの主君である王を殺そうとして、はいりこんだではないか。
16This thing isn’t good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, Yahweh’s anointed. Now see where the king’s spear is, and the jar of water that was at his head.”
16あなたがしたこの事は良くない。主は生きておられる。あなたがたは、まさに死に値する。主が油をそそがれた、あなたの主君を守らなかったからだ。いま王のやりがどこにあるか。その枕もとにあった水のびんがどこにあるかを見なさい」。
17Saul knew David’s voice, and said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.”
17サウルはダビデの声を聞きわけて言った、「わが子ダビデよ、これはあなたの声か」。ダビデは言った、「王、わが君よ、わたしの声です」。
18He said, “Why does my lord pursue after his servant? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand?
18ダビデはまた言った、「わが君はどうしてしもべのあとを追われるのですか。わたしが何をしたのですか。わたしの手になんのわるいことがあるのですか。
19Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before Yahweh; for they have driven me out this day that I shouldn’t cling to Yahweh’s inheritance, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods!’
19王、わが君よ、どうぞ、今しもべの言葉を聞いてください。もし主があなたを動かして、わたしの敵とされたのであれば、どうぞ主が供え物を受けて和らいでくださるように。もし、それが人であるならば、どうぞその人々が主の前にのろいを受けるように。彼らが『おまえは行って他の神々に仕えなさい』と言って、きょう、わたしを追い出し、主の嗣業にあずかることができないようにしたからです。
20Now therefore, don’t let my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of Yahweh; for the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”
20それゆえ今、主の前を離れて、わたしの血が地に落ちることのないようにしてください。イスラエルの王は、人が山で、しゃこを追うように、わたしの命を取ろうとして出てこられたのです」。
21Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.”
21その時、サウルは言った、「わたしは罪を犯した。わが子ダビデよ、帰ってきてください。きょう、わたしの命があなたの目に尊く見られたゆえ、わたしは、もはやあなたに害を加えないであろう。わたしは愚かなことをして、非常なまちがいをした」。
22David answered, “Behold the spear, O king! Then let one of the young men come over and get it.
22ダビデは答えた、「王のやりは、ここにあります。ひとりの若者に渡ってこさせ、これを持ちかえらせてください。
23Yahweh will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because Yahweh delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn’t put forth my hand against Yahweh’s anointed.
23主は人おのおのにその義と真実とに従って報いられます。主がきょう、あなたをわたしの手に渡されたのに、わたしは主が油を注がれた者に向かって、手をのべることをしなかったのです。
24Behold, as your life was respected this day in my eyes, so let my life be respected in the eyes of Yahweh, and let him deliver me out of all oppression.”
24きょう、わたしがあなたの命を重んじたように、どうぞ主がわたしの命を重んじて、もろもろの苦難から救い出してくださるように」。サウルはダビデに言った、「わが子ダビデよ、あなたはほむべきかな。あなたは多くの事をおこなって、それをなし遂げるであろう」。こうしてダビデはその道を行き、サウルは自分の所へ帰った。
25Then Saul said to David, “You are blessed, my son David. You shall both do mightily, and shall surely prevail.” So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.
25サウルはダビデに言った、「わが子ダビデよ、あなたはほむべきかな。あなたは多くの事をおこなって、それをなし遂げるであろう」。こうしてダビデはその道を行き、サウルは自分の所へ帰った。
