¹This is the third time I am coming to you. “At the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.” Deuteronomy 19:15

¹わたしは今、三度目にあなたがたの所に行こうとしている。すべての事がらは、ふたりか三人の証人の証言によって確定する。

²I have said beforehand, and I do say beforehand, as when I was present the second time, so now, being absent, I write to those who have sinned before now, and to all the rest, that, if I come again, I will not spare;

²わたしは、前に罪を犯した者たちやその他のすべての人々に、二度目に滞在していたとき警告しておいたが、離れている今またあらかじめ言っておく。今度行った時には、決して容赦はしない。

³seeing that you seek a proof of Christ who speaks in me; who toward you is not weak, but is powerful in you.

³なぜなら、あなたがたが、キリストのわたしにあって語っておられるという証拠を求めているからである。キリストは、あなたがたに対して弱くはなく、あなたがたのうちにあって強い。

⁴For he was crucified through weakness, yet he lives through the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we will live with him through the power of God toward you.

⁴すなわち、キリストは弱さのゆえに十字架につけられたが、神の力によって生きておられるのである。このように、わたしたちもキリストにあって弱い者であるが、あなたがたに対しては、神の力によって、キリストと共に生きるのである。

⁵Test your own selves, whether you are in the faith. Test your own selves. Or don’t you know as to your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.

⁵あなたがたは、はたして信仰があるかどうか、自分を反省し、自分を吟味するがよい。それとも、イエス・キリストがあなたがたのうちにおられることを、悟らないのか。もし悟らなければ、あなたがたは、にせものとして見捨てられる。

⁶But I hope that you will know that we aren’t disqualified.

⁶しかしわたしは、自分たちが見捨てられた者ではないことを、知っていてもらいたい。

⁷Now I pray to God that you do no evil; not that we may appear approved, but that you may do that which is honorable, though we are as reprobate.

⁷わたしたちは、あなたがたがどんな悪をも行わないようにと、神に祈る。それは、自分たちがほんとうの者であることを見せるためではなく、たといわたしたちが見捨てられた者のようになっても、あなたがたに良い行いをしてもらいたいためである。

⁸For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.

⁸わたしたちは、真理に逆らっては何をする力もなく、真理にしたがえば力がある。

⁹For we rejoice when we are weak and you are strong. And this we also pray for, even your perfecting.

⁹わたしたちは、自分は弱くても、あなたがたが強ければ、それを喜ぶ。わたしたちが特に祈るのは、あなたがたが完全に良くなってくれることである。

¹⁰For this cause I write these things while absent, that I may not deal sharply when present, according to the authority which the Lord gave me for building up, and not for tearing down.

¹⁰こういうわけで、離れていて以上のようなことを書いたのは、わたしがあなたがたの所に行ったとき、倒すためではなく高めるために主が授けて下さった権威を用いて、きびしい処置をする必要がないようにしたいためである。

¹¹Finally, brothers, rejoice. Be perfected, be comforted, be of the same mind, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.

¹¹最後に、兄弟たちよ。いつも喜びなさい。全き者となりなさい。互に励まし合いなさい。思いを一つにしなさい。平和に過ごしなさい。そうすれば、愛と平和の神があなたがたと共にいて下さるであろう。

¹²Greet one another with a holy kiss.

¹²きよい接吻をもって互にあいさつをかわしなさい。聖徒たち一同が、あなたがたによろしく。主イエス・キリストの恵みと、神の愛と、聖霊の交わりとが、あなたがた一同と共にあるように。

¹³All the saints greet you.

¹³主イエス・キリストの恵みと、神の愛と、聖霊の交わりとが、あなたがた一同と共にあるように。

¹⁴The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.
