¹It happened, when Yahweh would take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

¹主がつむじ風をもってエリヤを天に上らせようとされた時、エリヤはエリシャと共にギルガルを出て行った。

²Elijah said to Elisha, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me as far as Bethel.” Elisha said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

²エリヤはエリシャに言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをベテルにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはベテルへ下った。

³The sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from your head today?” He said, “Yes, I know it; hold your peace.”

³ベテルにいる預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとに出てきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。

⁴Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to Jericho.” He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.

⁴エリヤは彼に言った、「エリシャよ、どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをエリコにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはエリコへ行った。

⁵The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from your head today?” He answered, “Yes, I know it. Hold your peace.”

⁵エリコにいた預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとにきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。

⁶Elijah said to him, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to the Jordan.” He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” They both went on.

⁶エリヤはまた彼に言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをヨルダンにつかわされるのですから」。しかし彼は言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そしてふたりは進んで行った。

⁷Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood opposite them at a distance; and they both stood by the Jordan.

⁷預言者のともがら五十人も行って、彼らにむかって、はるかに離れて立っていた。彼らふたりは、ヨルダンのほとりに立ったが、

⁸Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that they two went over on dry ground.

⁸エリヤは外套を取り、それを巻いて水を打つと、水が左右に分れたので、ふたりはかわいた土の上を渡ることができた。

⁹It happened, when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me.”

⁹彼らが渡ったとき、エリヤはエリシャに言った、「わたしが取られて、あなたを離れる前に、あなたのしてほしい事を求めなさい」。エリシャは言った、「どうぞ、あなたの霊の二つの分をわたしに継がせてください」。

¹⁰He said, “You have asked a hard thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.”

¹⁰エリヤは言った、「あなたはむずかしい事を求める。あなたがもし、わたしが取られて、あなたを離れるのを見るならば、そのようになるであろう。しかし見ないならば、そのようにはならない」。

¹¹It happened, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

¹¹彼らが進みながら語っていた時、火の車と火の馬があらわれて、ふたりを隔てた。そしてエリヤはつむじ風に乗って天にのぼった。

¹²Elisha saw it, and he cried, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” He saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces.

¹²エリシャはこれを見て「わが父よ、わが父よ、イスラエルの戦車よ、その騎兵よ」と叫んだが、再び彼を見なかった。そこでエリシャは自分の着物をつかんで、それを二つに裂き、

¹³He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of the Jordan.

¹³またエリヤの身から落ちた外套を取り上げ、帰ってきてヨルダンの岸に立った。

¹⁴He took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, “Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah?” When he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha went over.

¹⁴そしてエリヤの身から落ちたその外套を取って水を打ち、「エリヤの神、主はどこにおられますか」と言い、彼が水を打つと、水は左右に分れたので、エリシャは渡った。

¹⁵When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho over against him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

¹⁵エリコにいる預言者のともがらは彼の近づいて来るのを見て、「エリヤの霊がエリシャの上にとどまっている」と言った。そして彼らは来て彼を迎え、その前に地に伏して、

¹⁶They said to him, “See now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. Perhaps the Spirit of Yahweh has taken him up, and put him on some mountain, or into some valley. He said, “You shall not send them.”

¹⁶彼に言った、「しもべらの所に力の強い者が五十人います。どうぞ彼らをつかわして、あなたの主人を尋ねさせてください。主の霊が彼を引きあげて、彼を山か谷に投げたのかも知れません」。エリシャは「つかわしてはならない」と言ったが、

¹⁷When they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, “Send them.” They sent therefore fifty men; and they searched for three days, but didn’t find him.

¹⁷彼の恥じるまで、しいたので、彼は「つかわしなさい」と言った。それで彼らは五十人の者をつかわし、三日の間尋ねたが、彼を見いださなかった。

¹⁸They came back to him, while he stayed at Jericho; and he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go?’”

¹⁸エリシャのなおエリコにとどまっている時、彼らが帰ってきたので、エリシャは彼らに言った、「わたしは、あなたがたに、行ってはならないと告げたではないか」。

¹⁹The men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, please, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land miscarries.”

¹⁹町の人々はエリシャに言った、「見られるとおり、この町の場所は良いが水が悪いので、この地は流産を起すのです」。

²⁰He said, “Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it.” They brought it to him.

²⁰エリシャは言った、「新しい皿に塩を盛って、わたしに持ってきなさい」。彼らは持ってきた。

²¹He went out to the spring of the waters, and threw salt into it, and said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘I have healed these waters. There shall not be from there any more death or miscarrying.’”

²¹エリシャは水の源へ出て行って、塩をそこに投げ入れて言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはこの水を良い水にした。もはやここには死も流産も起らないであろう』」。

²²So the waters were healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.

²²こうしてその水はエリシャの言ったとおりに良い水になって今日に至っている。

²³He went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up by the way, some youths came out of the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldy! Go up, you baldhead!”

²³彼はそこからベテルへ上ったが、上って行く途中、小さい子供らが町から出てきて彼をあざけり、彼にむかって「はげ頭よ、のぼれ。はげ頭よ、のぼれ」と言ったので、

²⁴He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of Yahweh. Two female bears came out of the woods, and mauled forty-two of those youths.

²⁴彼はふり返って彼らを見、主の名をもって彼らをのろった。すると林の中から二頭の雌ぐまが出てきて、その子供らのうち四十二人を裂いた。彼はそこからカルメル山へ行き、そこからサマリヤに帰った。

²⁵He went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
