1Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.
1ヨシヤは八歳で王となり、エルサレムで三十一年の間、世を治めた。母はボヅカテのアダヤの娘で、名をエデダといった。
2He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, and walked in all the way of David his father, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
2ヨシヤは主の目にかなう事を行い、先祖ダビデの道に歩んで右にも左にも曲らなかった。
3It happened in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Yahweh, saying,
3ヨシヤ王の第十八年に王はメシュラムの子アザリヤの子である書記官シャパンを主の宮につかわして言った、
4“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the money which is brought into the house of Yahweh, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.
4「大祭司ヒルキヤのもとへのぼって行って、主に宮にはいってきた銀、すなわち門を守る者が民から集めたものの総額を彼に数えさせ、
5Let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of Yahweh; and let them give it to the workmen who are in the house of Yahweh, to repair the breaches of the house,
5それを工事をつかさどる主の宮の監督者の手に渡させ、彼らから主の宮で工事をする者にそれを渡して、宮の破れを繕わせなさい。
6to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.
6すなわち木工と建築師と石工にそれを渡し、また宮を繕う材木と切り石を買わせなさい。
7However there was no accounting made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.”
7ただし彼らは正直に事を行うから、彼らに渡した銀については彼らと計算するに及ばない」。
8Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the house of Yahweh.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
8その時大祭司ヒルキヤは書記官シャパンに言った、「わたしは主の宮で律法の書を見つけました」。そしてヒルキヤがその書物をシャパンに渡したので、彼はそれを読んだ。
9Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of Yahweh.”
9書記官シャパンは王のもとへ行き、王に報告して言った、「しもべどもは宮にあった銀を皆出して、それを工事をつかさどる主の宮の監督者の手に渡しました」。
10Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Shaphan read it before the king.
10書記官シャパンはまた王に告げて「祭司ヒルキヤはわたしに一つの書物を渡しました」と言い、それを王の前で読んだ。
11It happened, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he tore his clothes.
11王はその律法の書の言葉を聞くと、その衣を裂いた。
12The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,
12そして王は祭司ヒルキヤと、シャパンの子アヒカムと、ミカヤの子アクボルと、書記官シャパンと、王の大臣アサヤとに命じて言った、
13“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the wrath of Yahweh that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”
13「あなたがたは行って、この見つかった書物の言葉について、わたしのため、民のため、またユダ全国のために主に尋ねなさい。われわれの先祖たちがこの書物の言葉に聞き従わず、すべてわれわれについてしるされている事を行わなかったために、主はわれわれにむかって、大いなる怒りを発しておられるからです」。
14So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.
14そこで祭司ヒルキヤ、アヒカム、アクボル、シャパンおよびアサヤはシャルムの妻である女預言者ホルダのもとへ行った。シャルムはハルハスの子であるテクワの子で、衣装べやを守る者であった。その時ホルダはエルサレムの下町に住んでいた。彼らがホルダに告げたので、
15She said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,
15ホルダは彼らに言った、「イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられます、『あなたがたをわたしにつかわした人に言いなさい。
16“Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.
16主はこう言われます、見よ、わたしはユダの王が読んだあの書物のすべての言葉にしたがって、災をこの所と、ここに住んでいる民に下そうとしている。
17Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.’”
17彼らがわたしを捨てて他の神々に香をたき、自分たちの手で作ったもろもろの物をもって、わたしを怒らせたからである。それゆえ、わたしはこの所にむかって怒りの火を発する。これは消えることがないであろう』。
18But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, thus you shall tell him, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: ‘Concerning the words which you have heard,
18ただし主に尋ねるために、あなたがたをつかわしたユダの王にはこう言いなさい、『あなたが聞いた言葉についてイスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられます、
19because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.
19あなたは、わたしがこの所と、ここに住んでいる民にむかって、これは荒れ地となり、のろいとなるであろうと言うのを聞いた時、心に悔い、主の前にへりくだり、衣を裂いてわたしの前に泣いたゆえ、わたしもまたあなたの言うことを聞いたのであると主は言われる。それゆえ、見よ、わたしはあなたを先祖たちのもとに集める。あなたは安らかに墓に集められ、わたしがこの所に下すもろもろの災を目に見ることはないであろう』」。彼らはこの言葉を王に持ち帰った。
20‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” They brought back this message to the king.
20それゆえ、見よ、わたしはあなたを先祖たちのもとに集める。あなたは安らかに墓に集められ、わたしがこの所に下すもろもろの災を目に見ることはないであろう』」。彼らはこの言葉を王に持ち帰った。
