¹Now Elisha had spoken to the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise, and go, you and your household, and stay for a while wherever you can; for Yahweh has called for a famine. It shall also come on the land seven years.”

¹エリシャはかつて、その子を生きかえらせてやった女に言ったことがある。「あなたは、ここを立って、あなたの家族と共に行き、寄留しようと思う所に寄留しなさい。主がききんを呼び下されたので、七年の間それがこの地に臨むから」。

²The woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God. She went with her household, and lived in the land of the Philistines seven years.

²そこで女は立って神の人の言葉のようにし、その家族と共に行ってペリシテびとの地に七年寄留した。

³It happened at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines. Then she went forth to cry to the king for her house and for her land.

³七年たって後、女はペリシテびとの地から帰ってきて、自分の家と畑のために王に訴えようと出ていった。

⁴Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.”

⁴時に王は神の人のしもべゲハジにむかって「エリシャがしたもろもろの大きな事をわたしに話してください」と言って、彼と物語っていた。

⁵It happened, as he was telling the king how he had restored to life him who was dead, that behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.”

⁵すなわちエリシャが死人を生きかえらせた事を、ゲハジが王と物語っていたとき、その子を生きかえらせてもらった女が、自分の家と畑のために王に訴えてきたので、ゲハジは言った、「わが主、王よ、これがその女です。またこれがその子で、エリシャが生きかえらせたのです」。

⁶When the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.”

⁶王がその女に尋ねると、彼女は王に話したので、王は彼女のためにひとりの役人に命じて言った、「すべて彼女に属する物、ならびに彼女がこの地を去った日から今までのその畑の産物をことごとく彼女に返しなさい」。

⁷Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick. It was told him, saying, “The man of God has come here.”

⁷さてエリシャはダマスコに来た。時にスリヤの王ベネハダデは病気であったが、「神の人がここに来た」と告げる者があったので、

⁸The king said to Hazael, “Take a present in your hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of Yahweh by him, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’”

⁸王はハザエルに言った、「贈り物を携えて行って神の人を迎え、彼によって主に『わたしのこの病気はなおりましょうか』と言って尋ねなさい」。

⁹So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, “Your son Benhadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’”

⁹そこでハザエルは彼を迎えようと、ダマスコのもろもろの良い物をらくだ四十頭に載せ、贈り物として携え行き、エリシャの前に立って言った、「あなたの子、スリヤの王ベネハダデがわたしをあなたにつかわして、『わたしのこの病気はなおりましょうか』と言わせています」。

¹⁰Elisha said to him, “Go, tell him, ‘You shall surely recover;’ however Yahweh has shown me that he shall surely die.”

¹⁰エリシャは彼に言った、「行って彼に『あなたは必ずなおります』と告げなさい。ただし主はわたしに、彼が必ず死ぬことを示されました」。

¹¹He settled his gaze steadfastly on him, until he was ashamed. Then the man of God wept.

¹¹そして神の人がひとみを定めて彼の恥じるまでに見つめ、やがて泣き出したので、

¹²Hazael said, “Why do you weep, my lord?” He answered, “Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel. You will set their strongholds on fire, and you will kill their young men with the sword, and will dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child.”

¹²ハザエルは言った、「わが主よ、どうして泣かれるのですか」。エリシャは答えた、「わたしはあなたがイスラエルの人々にしようとする害悪を知っているからです。すなわち、あなたは彼らの城に火をかけ、つるぎをもって若者を殺し、幼な子を投げうち、妊娠の女を引き裂くでしょう」。

¹³Hazael said, “But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing?” Elisha answered, “Yahweh has shown me that you will be king over Syria.”

¹³ハザエルは言った、「しもべは一匹の犬にすぎないのに、どうしてそんな大きな事をすることができましょう」。エリシャは言った、「主がわたしに示されました。あなたはスリヤの王となるでしょう」。

¹⁴Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?” He answered, “He told me that you would surely recover.”

¹⁴彼がエリシャのもとを去って、主君のところへ行くと、「エリシャはあなたになんと言ったか」と尋ねられたので、「あなたが必ずなおるでしょうと、彼はわたしに告げました」と答えた。

¹⁵It happened on the next day, that he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place.

¹⁵しかし翌日になってハザエルは布を取って水に浸し、それをもって王の顔をおおったので、王は死んだ。ハザエルは彼に代って王となった。

¹⁶In the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being king of Judah then, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.

¹⁶イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムの第五年に、ユダの王ヨシャパテの子ヨラムが位についた。

¹⁷He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign. He reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

¹⁷彼は王となったとき三十二歳で、八年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。

¹⁸He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab; for he had the daughter of Ahab as wife. He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh.

¹⁸彼はアハブの家がしたようにイスラエルの王たちの道に歩んだ。アハブの娘が彼の妻であったからである。彼は主の目の前に悪をおこなったが、

¹⁹However Yahweh would not destroy Judah, for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give to him a lamp for his children always.

¹⁹主はしもべダビデのためにユダを滅ぼすことを好まれなかった。すなわち主は彼とその子孫に常にともしびを与えると、彼に約束されたからである。

²⁰In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

²⁰ヨラムの世にエドムがそむいてユダの支配を脱し、みずから王を立てたので、

²¹Then Joram passed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and struck the Edomites who surrounded him, and the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents.

²¹ヨラムはすべての戦車を従えてザイルにわたって行き、その戦車の指揮官たちと共に、夜のうちに立ちあがって、彼を包囲しているエドムびとを撃った。しかしヨラムの軍隊は天幕に逃げ帰った。

²²So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.

²²エドムはこのようにそむいてユダの支配を脱し、今日に至っている。リブナもまた同時にそむいた。

²³The rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

²³ヨラムのその他の事績および彼がしたすべての事は、ユダの歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

²⁴Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.

²⁴ヨラムはその先祖たちと共に眠って、ダビデの町にその先祖たちと共に葬られ、その子アハジヤが代って王となった。

²⁵In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.

²⁵イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムの第十二年にユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤが位についた。

²⁶Twenty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israel.

²⁶アハジヤは王となったとき二十二歳で、エルサレムで一年世を治めた。その母は名をアタリヤと言って、イスラエルの王オムリの孫娘であった。

²⁷He walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, as did the house of Ahab; for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.

²⁷アハジヤはまたアハブの家の道に歩み、アハブの家がしたように主の目の前に悪をおこなった。彼はアハブの家の婿であったからである。

²⁸He went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram.

²⁸彼はアハブの子ヨラムと共に行って、スリヤの王ハザエルとラモテ・ギレアデで戦ったが、スリヤびとらはヨラムに傷を負わせた。ヨラム王はそのスリヤの王ハザエルと戦うときにラマでスリヤびとに負わされた傷をいやすため、エズレルに帰ったが、ユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤはアハブの子ヨラムが病んでいたので、エズレルに下って彼をおとずれた。

²⁹King Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

²⁹ヨラム王はそのスリヤの王ハザエルと戦うときにラマでスリヤびとに負わされた傷をいやすため、エズレルに帰ったが、ユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤはアハブの子ヨラムが病んでいたので、エズレルに下って彼をおとずれた。
