¹If there is a controversy between men, and they come to judgment, and the judges judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked;

¹人と人との間に争い事があって、さばきを求めてきたならば、さばきびとはこれをさばいて、正しい者を正しいとし、悪い者を悪いとしなければならない。

²and it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his wickedness, by number.

²その悪い者が、むち打つべき者であるならば、さばきびとは彼を伏させ、自分の前で、その罪にしたがい、数えて彼をむち打たせなければならない。

³Forty stripes he may give him, he shall not exceed; lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then your brother should seem vile to you.

³彼をむち打つには四十を越えてはならない。もしそれを越えて、それよりも多くむちを打つときは、あなたの兄弟はあなたの目の前で、はずかしめられることになるであろう。

⁴You shall not muzzle the ox when he treads out the grain.

⁴脱穀をする牛にくつこを掛けてはならない。

⁵If brothers dwell together, and one of them die, and have no son, the wife of the dead shall not be married outside to a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in to her, and take her to him as wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her.

⁵兄弟が一緒に住んでいて、そのうちのひとりが死んで子のない時は、その死んだ者の妻は出て、他人にとついではならない。その夫の兄弟が彼女の所にはいり、めとって妻とし、夫の兄弟としての道を彼女につくさなければならない。

⁶It shall be, that the firstborn whom she bears shall succeed in the name of his brother who is dead, that his name not be blotted out of Israel.

⁶そしてその女が初めに産む男の子に、死んだ兄弟の名を継がせ、その名をイスラエルのうちに絶やさないようにしなければならない。

⁷If the man doesn’t want to take his brother’s wife, then his brother’s wife shall go up to the gate to the elders, and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to raise up to his brother a name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband’s brother to me.”

⁷しかしその人が兄弟の妻をめとるのを好まないならば、その兄弟の妻は町の門へ行って、長老たちに言わなければならない、『わたしの夫の兄弟はその兄弟の名をイスラエルのうちに残すのを拒んで、夫の兄弟としての道をつくすことを好みません』。

⁸Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him: and if he stand, and say, “I don’t want to take her”;

⁸そのとき町の長老たちは彼を呼び寄せて、さとさなければならない。もし彼が固執して、『わたしは彼女をめとることを好みません』と言うならば、

⁹then his brother’s wife shall come to him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, “So shall it be done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house.”

⁹その兄弟の妻は長老たちの目の前で、彼のそばに行き、その足のくつを脱がせ、その顔につばきして、答えて言わなければならない。『兄弟の家をたてない者には、このようにすべきです』。

¹⁰His name shall be called in Israel, The house of him who has his shoe untied.

¹⁰そして彼の家の名は、くつを脱がされた者の家と、イスラエルのうちで呼ばれるであろう。

¹¹When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draws near to deliver her husband out of the hand of him who strikes him, and puts forth her hand, and takes him by the secrets;

¹¹ふたりの人が互に争うときに、そのひとりの人の妻が、打つ者の手から夫を救おうとして近づき、手を伸べて、その人の隠し所をつかまえるならば、

¹²then you shall cut off her hand, your eye shall have no pity.

¹²その女の手を切り落さなければならない。あわれみをかけてはならない。

¹³You shall not have in your bag diverse weights, a great and a small.

¹³あなたの袋に大小二種の重り石を入れておいてはならない。

¹⁴You shall not have in your house diverse measures, a great and a small.

¹⁴あなたの家に大小二種のますをおいてはならない。

¹⁵You shall have a perfect and just weight. You shall have a perfect and just measure, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.

¹⁵不足のない正しい重り石を持ち、また不足のない正しいますを持たなければならない。そうすればあなたの神、主が賜わる地で、あなたは長く命を保つことができるであろう。

¹⁶For all who do such things, all who do unrighteously, are an abomination to Yahweh your God.

¹⁶すべてこのような不正をする者を、あなたの神、主が憎まれるからである。

¹⁷Remember what Amalek did to you by the way as you came forth out of Egypt;

¹⁷あなたがエジプトから出てきた時、道でアマレクびとがあなたにしたことを記憶しなければならない。

¹⁸how he met you by the way, and struck the hindmost of you, all who were feeble behind you, when you were faint and weary; and he didn’t fear God.

¹⁸すなわち彼らは道であなたに出会い、あなたがうみ疲れている時、うしろについてきていたすべての弱っている者を攻め撃った。このように彼らは神を恐れなかった。それで、あなたの神、主が嗣業として賜わる地で、あなたの神、主があなたの周囲のすべての敵を征服して、あなたに安息を与えられる時、あなたはアマレクの名を天の下から消し去らなければならない。この事を忘れてはならない。

¹⁹Therefore it shall be, when Yahweh your God has given you rest from all your enemies all around, in the land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it, that you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky; you shall not forget.

¹⁹それで、あなたの神、主が嗣業として賜わる地で、あなたの神、主があなたの周囲のすべての敵を征服して、あなたに安息を与えられる時、あなたはアマレクの名を天の下から消し去らなければならない。この事を忘れてはならない。
