¹The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, when Ehud was dead.

²Yahweh sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth of the Gentiles.

²主は、ハゾルで世を治めていたカナンの王ヤビンの手に彼らを売りわたされた。ヤビンの軍勢の長はハロセテ・ゴイムに住んでいたシセラであった。

³The children of Israel cried to Yahweh: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

³彼は鉄の戦車九百両をもち、二十年の間イスラエルの人々を激しくしえたげたので、イスラエルの人々は主に向かって呼ばわった。

⁴Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, she judged Israel at that time.

⁴そのころラピドテの妻、女預言者デボラがイスラエルをさばいていた。

⁵She lived under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

⁶She sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh Naphtali, and said to him, “Hasn’t Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded, ‘Go and draw to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?

⁶デボラは人をつかわして、ナフタリのケデシからアビノアムの子バラクを招いて言った、「イスラエルの神、主はあなたに、こう命じられるではありませんか、『ナフタリの部族とゼブルンの部族から一万人を率い、行って、タボル山に陣をしけ。

⁷I will draw to you, to the river Kishon, Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into your hand.’”

⁷わたしはヤビンの軍勢の長シセラとその戦車と軍隊とをキション川に引き寄せて、あなたに出あわせ、彼をあなたの手にわたすであろう』」。

⁸Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.”

⁸バラクは彼女に言った、「あなたがもし一緒に行ってくだされば、わたしは行きます。しかし、一緒に行ってくださらないならば、行きません」。

⁹She said, “I will surely go with you: nevertheless, the journey that you take shall not be for your honor; for Yahweh will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.

⁹デボラは言った、「必ずあなたと一緒に行きます。しかしあなたは今行く道では誉を得ないでしょう。主はシセラを女の手にわたされるからです」。デボラは立ってバラクと一緒にケデシに行った。

¹⁰Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh; and there went up ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.

¹⁰バラクはゼブルンとナフタリをケデシに呼び集め、一万人を従えて上った。デボラも彼と共に上った。

¹¹Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, even from the children of Hobab the brother-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.

¹¹時にケニびとヘベルはモーセのしゅうとホバブの子孫であるケニびとから分れて、ケデシに近いザアナイムのかしの木までも遠く行って天幕を張っていた。

¹²They told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to Mount Tabor.

¹²アビノアムの子バラクがタボル山に上ったと、人々がシセラに告げたので、

¹³Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people who were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles, to the river Kishon.

¹³シセラは自分の戦車の全部すなわち鉄の戦車九百両と、自分と共におるすべての民をハロセテ・ゴイムからキション川に呼び集めた。

¹⁴Deborah said to Barak, “Go; for this is the day in which Yahweh has delivered Sisera into your hand. Hasn’t Yahweh gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

¹⁴デボラはバラクに言った、「さあ、立ちあがりなさい。きょうは主がシセラをあなたの手にわたされる日です。主はあなたに先立って出られるではありませんか」。そこでバラクは一万人を従えてタボル山から下った。

¹⁵Yahweh confused Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera alighted from his chariot, and fled away on his feet.

¹⁵主はつるぎをもってシセラとすべての戦車および軍勢をことごとくバラクの前に撃ち敗られたので、シセラは戦車から飛びおり、徒歩で逃げ去った。

¹⁶But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the army, to Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; there was not a man left.

¹⁶バラクは戦車と軍勢とを追撃してハロセテ・ゴイムまで行った。シセラの軍勢はことごとくつるぎにたおれて、残ったものはひとりもなかった。

¹⁷However Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

¹⁷しかしシセラは徒歩で逃げ去って、ケニびとヘベルの妻ヤエルの天幕に行った。ハゾルの王ヤビンとケニびとヘベルの家とは互にむつまじかったからである。

¹⁸Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, “Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; don’t be afraid.” He came in to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.

¹⁸ヤエルは出てきてシセラを迎え、彼に言った、「おはいりください。主よ、どうぞうちへおはいりください。恐れるにはおよびません」。シセラが天幕にはいったので、ヤエルは毛布をもって彼をおおった。

¹⁹He said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink; for I am thirsty.” She opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.

¹⁹シセラはヤエルに言った、「どうぞ、わたしに水を少し飲ませてください。のどがかわきましたから」。ヤエルは乳の皮袋を開いて彼に飲ませ、また彼をおおった。

²⁰He said to her, “Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man comes and inquires of you, and says, ‘Is there any man here?’ that you shall say, ‘No.’”

²⁰シセラはまたヤエルに言った、「天幕の入口に立っていてください。もし人がきて、あなたに『だれか、ここにおりますか』と問うならば『おりません』と答えてください」。

²¹Then Jael Heber’s wife took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him, and struck the pin into his temples, and it pierced through into the ground; for he was in a deep sleep; so he swooned and died.

²¹しかし彼が疲れて熟睡したとき、ヘベルの妻ヤエルは天幕のくぎを取り、手に槌を携えて彼に忍び寄り、こめかみにくぎを打ち込んで地に刺し通したので、彼は息絶えて死んだ。

²²Behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek.” He came to her; and behold, Sisera lay dead, and the tent peg was in his temples.

²²バラクがシセラを追ってきたとき、ヤエルは彼を出迎えて言った、「おいでなさい。あなたが求めている人をお見せしましょう」。彼がヤエルの天幕にはいって見ると、シセラはこめかみにくぎを打たれて倒れて死んでいた。

²³So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.

²³こうしてその日、神はカナンの王ヤビンをイスラエルの人々の前に撃ち敗られた。そしてイスラエルの人々の手はますますカナンびとの王ヤビンの上に重くなって、ついにカナンの王ヤビンを滅ぼすに至った。

²⁴The hand of the children of Israel prevailed more and more against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.

²⁴そしてイスラエルの人々の手はますますカナンびとの王ヤビンの上に重くなって、ついにカナンの王ヤビンを滅ぼすに至った。
