¹How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become tributary!

¹ああ、むかしは、民の満ちみちていたこの都、国々の民のうちで大いなる者であったこの町、今は寂しいさまで座し、やもめのようになった。もろもろの町のうちで女王であった者、今は奴隷となった。

²She weeps bitterly in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her: All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they are become her enemies.

²これは夜もすがらいたく泣き悲しみ、そのほおには涙が流れている。そのすべての愛する者のうちには、これを慰める者はひとりもなく、そのすべての友はこれにそむいて、その敵となった。

³Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude; she dwells among the nations, she finds no rest: all her persecutors overtook her within the straits.

³ユダは悩みのゆえに、また激しい苦役のゆえに、のがれて行って、もろもろの国民のうちに住んでいるが、安息を得ず、これを追う者がみな追いついてみると、悩みのうちにあった。

⁴The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly; all her gates are desolate, her priests do sigh: her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness.

⁴シオンの道は祭に上ってくる者のないために悲しみ、その門はことごとく荒れ、その祭司たちは嘆き、そのおとめたちは引かれて行き、シオンはみずからいたく苦しむ。

⁵そのあだはかしらとなり、その敵は栄えている。そのとがが多いので、主がこれを悩まされたからである。その幼な子たちは捕われて、あだの前に行った。

⁶シオンの娘の栄華はことごとく彼女を離れ去り、その君たちは牧草を得ない、しかのようになり、自分を追う者の前に力なく逃げ去った。

⁷Jerusalem remembers in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that were from the days of old: when her people fell into the hand of the adversary, and no one helped her, The adversaries saw her, they mocked at her desolations.

⁷エルサレムはその悩みと苦しみの日に、昔から持っていたもろもろの宝を思い出す。その民があだの手に陥り、だれもこれを助ける者のない時、あだはこれを見て、その滅びをあざ笑った。

⁸Jerusalem has grievously sinned; therefore she has become as an unclean thing; all who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yes, she sighs, and turns backward.

⁸エルサレムは、はなはだしく罪を犯したので、汚れたものとなった。これを尊んだ者も皆その裸を見たので、これを卑しめる。これもまたみずから嘆き、顔をそむける。

⁹Her filthiness was in her skirts; she didn’t remember her latter end; therefore is she come down wonderfully; she has no comforter: see, Yahweh, my affliction; for the enemy has magnified himself.

⁹その汚れはその衣のすそにあり、これはその終りを思わなかった。それゆえ、これは驚くばかりに落ちぶれ、これを慰める者はひとりもない。「主よ、わが悩みを顧みてください、敵は勝ち誇っていますから」。

¹⁰The adversary has spread out his hand on all her pleasant things: for she has seen that the nations are entered into her sanctuary, concerning whom you commanded that they should not enter into your assembly.

¹⁰敵は手を伸べて、その財宝をことごとく奪った。あなたがさきに異邦人らはあなたの公会に、はいってはならないと命じられたのに、彼らがその聖所にはいるのをシオンは見た。

¹¹All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for food to refresh the soul: look, Yahweh, and see; for I am become abject.

¹¹その民はみな嘆いて食物を求め、その命をささえるために、財宝を食物にかえた。「主よ、みそなわして、わたしの卑しめられるのを顧みてください」。

¹²Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is brought on me, With which Yahweh has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

¹²「すべて道行く人よ、あなたがたはなんとも思わないのか。主がその激しい怒りの日にわたしを悩まして、わたしにくだされた苦しみのような苦しみが、また世にあるだろうか、尋ねて見よ。

¹⁴わたしのとがは、つかねられて、一つのくびきとせられ、主のみ手により固く締められて、わたしの首におかれ、わたしの力を衰えさせられた。主はわたしを、立ちむかい得ざる者の手に渡された。

¹⁶このために、わたしは泣き悲しみ、わたしの目は涙であふれる。わたしを慰める者、わたしを勇気づける者がわたしから遠く離れたからである。わが子らは敵が勝ったために、わびしい者となった」。

¹⁷Zion spreads forth her hands; there is none to comfort her; Yahweh has commanded concerning Jacob, that those who are around him should be his adversaries: Jerusalem is among them as an unclean thing.

¹⁷シオンは手を伸ばしても、これを慰める者はひとりもない。ヤコブについては、主は命じて、その周囲の者を、これがあだとせられた。エルサレムは彼らの中にあって、汚れた物のようになった。

¹⁸Yahweh is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: Please hear all you peoples, and see my sorrow: My virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.

²¹わたしがどんなに嘆くかを聞いてください。わたしを慰める者はひとりもなく、敵はみなわたしの悩みを聞いて、あなたがこれをなされたのを喜んだ。あなたがさきに告げ知らせたその日をきたらせ、彼らをも、わたしのようにしてください。彼らの悪をことごとくあなたの前にあらわし、さきにわがもろもろのとがのために、わたしに行われたように、彼らにも行ってください。わが嘆きは多く、わが心は弱りはてているからです」。

²²Let all their wickedness come before you; Do to them, as you have done to me for all my transgressions: For my sighs are many, and my heart is faint.

²²彼らの悪をことごとくあなたの前にあらわし、さきにわがもろもろのとがのために、わたしに行われたように、彼らにも行ってください。わが嘆きは多く、わが心は弱りはてているからです」。
