¹He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up,

¹また、イエスは失望せずに常に祈るべきことを、人々に譬で教えられた。

²saying, “There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God, and didn’t respect man.

²「ある町に、神を恐れず、人を人とも思わぬ裁判官がいた。

³ A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’

³ところが、その同じ町にひとりのやもめがいて、彼のもとにたびたびきて、『どうぞ、わたしを訴える者をさばいて、わたしを守ってください』と願いつづけた。

⁴ He wouldn’t for a while, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God, nor respect man,

⁴彼はしばらくの間きき入れないでいたが、そののち、心のうちで考えた、『わたしは神をも恐れず、人を人とも思わないが、

⁵ yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’”

⁵このやもめがわたしに面倒をかけるから、彼女のためになる裁判をしてやろう。そうしたら、絶えずやってきてわたしを悩ますことがなくなるだろう』」。

⁶The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.

⁶そこで主は言われた、「この不義な裁判官の言っていることを聞いたか。

⁷ Won’t God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?

⁷まして神は、日夜叫び求める選民のために、正しいさばきをしてくださらずに長い間そのままにしておかれることがあろうか。

⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

⁸あなたがたに言っておくが、神はすみやかにさばいてくださるであろう。しかし、人の子が来るとき、地上に信仰が見られるであろうか」。

⁹He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others.

⁹自分を義人だと自任して他人を見下げている人たちに対して、イエスはまたこの譬をお話しになった。

¹⁰ “Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.

¹⁰「ふたりの人が祈るために宮に上った。そのひとりはパリサイ人であり、もうひとりは取税人であった。

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: ‘God, I thank you, that I am not like the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

¹¹パリサイ人は立って、ひとりでこう祈った、『神よ、わたしはほかの人たちのような貪欲な者、不正な者、姦淫をする者ではなく、また、この取税人のような人間でもないことを感謝します。

¹² I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’

¹²わたしは一週に二度断食しており、全収入の十分の一をささげています』。

¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

¹³ところが、取税人は遠く離れて立ち、目を天にむけようともしないで、胸を打ちながら言った、『神様、罪人のわたしをおゆるしください』と。

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

¹⁴あなたがたに言っておく。神に義とされて自分の家に帰ったのは、この取税人であって、あのパリサイ人ではなかった。おおよそ、自分を高くする者は低くされ、自分を低くする者は高くされるであろう」。

¹⁵They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

¹⁵イエスにさわっていただくために、人々が幼な子らをみもとに連れてきた。ところが、弟子たちはそれを見て、彼らをたしなめた。

¹⁶Jesus summoned them, saying, “Allow the little children to come to me, and don’t hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

¹⁶するとイエスは幼な子らを呼び寄せて言われた、「幼な子らをわたしのところに来るままにしておきなさい、止めてはならない。神の国はこのような者の国である。

¹⁷ Most certainly, I tell you, whoever doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”

¹⁷よく聞いておくがよい。だれでも幼な子のように神の国を受けいれる者でなければ、そこにはいることは決してできない」。

¹⁸A certain ruler asked him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

¹⁸また、ある役人がイエスに尋ねた、「よき師よ、何をしたら永遠の生命が受けられましょうか」。

¹⁹Jesus asked him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one—God.

¹⁹イエスは言われた、「なぜわたしをよき者と言うのか。神ひとりのほかによい者はいない。

²⁰ You know the commandments: ‘Don’t commit adultery,’ ‘Don’t murder,’ ‘Don’t steal,’ ‘Don’t give false testimony,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’” Exodus 20:12-16; Deuteronomy 5:16-20

²⁰いましめはあなたの知っているとおりである、『姦淫するな、殺すな、盗むな、偽証を立てるな、父と母とを敬え』」。

²¹He said, “I have observed all these things from my youth up.”

²¹すると彼は言った、「それらのことはみな、小さい時から守っております」。

²²When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Come, follow me.”

²²イエスはこれを聞いて言われた、「あなたのする事がまだ一つ残っている。持っているものをみな売り払って、貧しい人々に分けてやりなさい。そうすれば、天に宝を持つようになろう。そして、わたしに従ってきなさい」。

²³But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.

²³彼はこの言葉を聞いて非常に悲しんだ。大金持であったからである。

²⁴Jesus, seeing that he became very sad, said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God!

²⁴イエスは彼の様子を見て言われた、「財産のある者が神の国にはいるのはなんとむずかしいことであろう。

²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to enter in through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God.”

²⁵富んでいる者が神の国にはいるよりは、らくだが針の穴を通る方が、もっとやさしい」。

²⁶Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”

²⁶これを聞いた人々が、「それでは、だれが救われることができるのですか」と尋ねると、

²⁷But he said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”

²⁷イエスは言われた、「人にはできない事も、神にはできる」。

²⁸Peter said, “Look, we have left everything, and followed you.”

²⁸ペテロが言った、「ごらんなさい、わたしたちは自分のものを捨てて、あなたに従いました」。

²⁹He said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the Kingdom of God’s sake,

²⁹イエスは言われた、「よく聞いておくがよい。だれでも神の国のために、家、妻、兄弟、両親、子を捨てた者は、

³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the world to come, eternal life.”

³⁰必ずこの時代ではその幾倍もを受け、また、きたるべき世では永遠の生命を受けるのである」。

³¹He took the twelve aside, and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be completed.

³¹イエスは十二弟子を呼び寄せて言われた、「見よ、わたしたちはエルサレムへ上って行くが、人の子について預言者たちがしるしたことは、すべて成就するであろう。

³² For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on.

³²人の子は異邦人に引きわたされ、あざけられ、はずかしめを受け、つばきをかけられ、

³³ They will scourge and kill him. On the third day, he will rise again.”

³³また、むち打たれてから、ついに殺され、そして三日目によみがえるであろう」。

³⁴They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn’t understand the things that were said.

³⁴弟子たちには、これらのことが何一つわからなかった。この言葉が彼らに隠されていたので、イエスの言われた事が理解できなかった。

³⁵It happened, as he came near Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the road, begging.

³⁵イエスがエリコに近づかれたとき、ある盲人が道ばたにすわって、物ごいをしていた。

³⁶Hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant.

³⁶群衆が通り過ぎる音を耳にして、彼は何事があるのかと尋ねた。

³⁷They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.

³⁷ところが、ナザレのイエスがお通りなのだと聞かされたので、

³⁸He cried out, “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!”

³⁸声をあげて、「ダビデの子イエスよ、わたしをあわれんで下さい」と言った。

³⁹Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “You son of David, have mercy on me!”

³⁹先頭に立つ人々が彼をしかって黙らせようとしたが、彼はますます激しく叫びつづけた、「ダビデの子よ、わたしをあわれんで下さい」。

⁴⁰Standing still, Jesus commanded him to be brought to him. When he had come near, he asked him,

⁴⁰そこでイエスは立ちどまって、その者を連れて来るように、とお命じになった。彼が近づいたとき、

⁴¹ “What do you want me to do?” He said, “Lord, that I may see again.”

⁴¹「わたしに何をしてほしいのか」とおたずねになると、「主よ、見えるようになることです」と答えた。

⁴²Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.”

⁴²そこでイエスは言われた、「見えるようになれ。あなたの信仰があなたを救った」。すると彼は、たちまち見えるようになった。そして神をあがめながらイエスに従って行った。これを見て、人々はみな神をさんびした。

⁴³Immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, praised God.
