¹Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

¹主が家を建てられるのでなければ、建てる者の勤労はむなしい。主が町を守られるのでなければ、守る者のさめているのはむなしい。

²It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

²あなたがたが早く起き、おそく休み、辛苦のかてを食べることは、むなしいことである。主はその愛する者に、眠っている時にも、なくてならぬものを与えられるからである。

³Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

³見よ、子供たちは神から賜わった嗣業であり、胎の実は報いの賜物である。

⁴As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth.

⁴壮年の時の子供は勇士の手にある矢のようだ。矢の満ちた矢筒を持つ人はさいわいである。彼は門で敵と物言うとき恥じることはない。

⁵Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They won’t be disappointed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
