1Behold, how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.
1Walit acḥal i ɣ-iḥemmel Baba Ṛebbi, armi nețțusemma d arraw-is ! yerna ț-țideț d arraw-is i nella. Ddunit ur aɣ-teɛqil ara d arraw n Ṛebbi imi ur tessin ara Sidi Ṛebbi.
2Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.
2A wid eɛzizen, aql-aɣ tura d arraw n Ṛebbi, ayen akken ara nuɣal werɛad i d-yedṛi, lameɛna neẓra belli m'ara d-yedṛu, a nili am nețța, axaṭer a t-nwali akken yella.
3Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
3Kra n win yessaramen deg-s ad yeṣfu akken yeṣfa Lmasiḥ.
4Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.
4Kra n win idenben yerẓa ccariɛa n Sidi Ṛebbi, axaṭer ddnub ț-țaṛuẓi n ccariɛa.
5You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin.
5Teẓram belli Lmasiḥ yusa-d iwakken ad ikkes ddnub nețța ur nesɛi ddnub.
6Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him, neither knows him.
6Kra n win yeṭṭfen deg-s ixeṭṭu i ddnub ; kra n win yețɛicin di ddnub ur t-iwala ur t-yessin.
7Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
7Ay arrac imeẓyanen, ɣuṛ-wat win ara kkun-iɣuṛṛen. Win iteddun s lḥeqq d aḥeqqi akken yella Sidna Ɛisa d aḥeqqi.
8He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
8Win yețɛicin di ddnub yedda d Cciṭan, axaṭer d nețța i d amednub amezwaru. Ɣef ddemma n wayagi i d-yusa Mmi-s n Ṛebbi iwakken ad yessenger lecɣal n Cciṭan.
9Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.
9Kra n wid yellan d arraw n Ṛebbi ur țɛicin ara di ddnub, axaṭer tudert i d-itekken s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi tella deg-sen ; ur zmiren ara ad ɛicen di ddnub imi s ɣuṛ Ṛebbi i d-ɛawden talalit.
10In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.
10Atah wayen i d-ițbegginen lxilaf yellan ger warraw n Sidi Ṛebbi d wid n Cciṭan : kra n win ur nteddu ara s lḥeqq neɣ ur nḥemmel ara gma-s ur yelli ara si tarwa n Sidi Ṛebbi.
11For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;
11Atan lameṛ i wumi teslam si tazwara : ilaq a nemyeḥmal wway gar-aneɣ.
12unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
12Mačči am Kahin yellan d amcum yenɣa gma-s, yezla-t axaṭer nețța lecɣal-is diri-ten, ma d gma-s iteddu s lḥeqq. f+
13Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.
13Ur wehhmet ara ay atmaten ma yella keṛhen-kkun wat ddunit.
14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.
14Nukni nɛedda-d si lmut ɣer tudert axaṭer nḥemmel atmaten. Win ur nḥemmel ara, mazal-it di lmut.
15Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
15Kra n win ikeṛhen gma-s d aqettal, yerna teẓram belli win ineqqen, ulac deg-s tudert n dayem.
16By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
16Leḥmala n tideț, nessen-iț s Ɛisa Lmasiḥ yefkan tudert-is fell-aneɣ. Ilaq-aɣ ula d nukni, a nefk tudert nneɣ ɣef watmaten-nneɣ.
17But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does the love of God remain in him?
17Ma yella walebɛaḍ yesɛan cci, iwala gma-s di lexṣaṣ ur d-iḥunn ara fell-as, amek ara tezdeɣ leḥmala n Sidi Ṛebbi deg wul-is.
18My little children, let’s not love in word only, neither with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
18Ay arrac imeẓyanen, ur ḥemmlet ara s wawal kan d yiles aẓidan, lameɛna leḥmala n tideț a d-tban s lecɣal-nwen.
19And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him,
19S wakka ara nẓer belli di tideț i nella, yerna ad yethedden wul-nneɣ zdat Sidi Ṛebbi,
20because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
20ɣas yesseḍlem-aɣ wul-nneɣ : Sidi Ṛebbi sennig wul nneɣ i gella yerna yeẓra kullec.
21Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;
21A wid eɛzizen, ma yella ur aɣ-isseḍlem ara wul-nneɣ, nesɛa lețkal zdat Sidi Ṛebbi.
22and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
22Kra n wayen ara nessuter, ițțak-aɣ-t-id axaṭer neḥrez lumuṛat-is yerna nxeddem lebɣi-s.
23This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
23Atan wayen i ɣ-d-yumeṛ : a namen s yisem n Mmi-s Ɛisa Lmasiḥ yerna a nemyeḥmal wway gar-aneɣ am akken yella di lameṛ i ɣ-d-yefka. f+
24He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
24Win yețțaṭṭafen di Sidi Ṛebbi, iḥerzen lumuṛat-is, Sidi Ṛebbi yețțili deg wul-is ; yerna a neɛqel belli Sidi Ṛebbi yella deg ul-nneɣ s Ṛṛuḥ iqedsen i ɣ-d-yefka.
