1It happened after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.
1Mokon chic quicam laj Nahas, lix reyeb li ralal xcßajol laj Amón. Ut aß chic laj Hanún li ralal qui-oc chokß xreyeb laj Siria chokß rêkaj lix yucuaß.
2David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
2Li rey David quixye: —Lâin tincuânk saß usilal riqßuin laj Hanún joß nak quicuan saß usilal cuiqßuin laj Nahas lix yucuaß, chan. Joßcan nak quixtaklaheb lix takl riqßuin laj Hanún chixcßojobanquil xchßôl xban xcamic lix yucuaß. Queßcuulac lix takl laj David saß xnaßajeb li ralal xcßajol laj Amón, chi xcßojobanquil xchßôl laj Hanún.
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”
3Abanan eb li cuanqueb xcuanquil saß xyânkeb li ralal xcßajol laj Amón queßxye re laj Hanún: —¿Ma nacapâb lâat nak li rey David xtaklaheb chak lix takl arin yal re xqßuebal xlokßal lâ yucuaß ut re xcßojobanquil âchßôl? ¿Ma incßaß nacaqßue retal nak quixtaklaheb chak arin chixqßuebal retal li katenamit? chanqueb.
4So Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
4Joßcan nak laj Hanún quixchapeb lix takl laj David ut quixtakla xjobal lix macheb ut queßxjach saß xyi li rakßeb. Quicuulac toj chiru li raßeb. Quixtaklaheb cuißchic saß lix tenamiteb.
5Then there went certain persons, and told David how the men were served. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
5Eb aßan queßcôeb. Nak laj David quirabi li cßaßru queßxcßul, quixtakla xcßulbaleb xban nak yô xxutâneb. Quixtakla xyebal reheb nak teßcanâk Jericó toj tâchamokß cuißchic lix macheb. Chirix aßan teßsukßîk saß lix tenamiteb.
6When the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent one thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Arammaacah, and out of Zobah.
6Eb li ralal xcßajol laj Amón queßxqßue retal nak xicß chic teßilekß xban laj David. Eb aßan queßchal chak saß eb li naßajej Mesopotamia, ut Siria, Maaca ut Soba.
7So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people, who came and encamped before Medeba. The children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
7Queßxtoj cablaju xcaßcßâl mil chi carruaje, joß eb ajcuiß li teßchßeßok reheb li carruajes. Ut queßxtoj ajcuiß li rey re Maaca. Eb aßan queßchal ut queßxyîb lix naßajeb saß xcaßyabâl li tenamit Medeba. Ut queßxchßutub ajcuiß ribeb laj Amón saß lix tenamiteb ut queßcôeb chi pletic.
8When David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men.
8Laj David quirabi resil ut quixtakla laj Joab rochbeneb chixjunileb li soldado li cauheb rib chi pletic.
9The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city: and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.

10Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.
10Laj Joab quiril nak teßchâlk chiru ut chirix chi pletic. Joßcan nak quixsicß ruheb lix soldado li kßaxal cauheb rib saß xyânkeb laj Israel. Ut quixye reheb nak teßxic chi pletic riqßuineb laj Siria.

12He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you are to help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.
12Quixye re laj Abisai: —Cui tâcuil nak eb li soldado laj Siria yôkeb chi numtâc saß inbên, lâat tattenkßânk cue. Ut cui eb li ralal xcßajol laj Amón yôkeb chi numtâc saß âbên, lâin tintenkßânk âcue.
13Be courageous, and let us be strong for our people, and for the cities of our God. May Yahweh do that which seems good to him.”
13Cauhak taxak âchßôl. Chikacacuubresi kachßôl chi pletic. Chikacolak rix li katenamit lâo aj Israel, lix tenamit li Dios. Ut li Kâcuaß taxak tixbânu li cßaßru naraj aßan, chan.
14So Joab and the people who were with him drew near before the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.

17It was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came on them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
17Nak li rey David quirabi resil, queßxchßutub ribeb chixjunileb li soldâdeb laj Israel ut queßcôeb jun pacßal li nimaß Jordán. Ut queßxcauresi ribeb re teßpletik riqßuineb. Ut nak ac xtaklaheb queßoc chi pletic.
