1Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
1Laj tza quiraj xtaklanquil li raylal saß xbêneb laj Israel. Joßcan nak quixqßue saß xchßôl laj David rajlanquileb chixjunileb laj Israel.
2David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, “Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them.”
2Joßcan nak laj David quixtaklaheb laj Joab ut eb li nequeßtaklan saß xbêneb li tenamit. Quixye reheb: —Ayukex. Ajlahomakeb chak chixjunileb laj Israel. Naticla saß li tenamit Beerseba ut nacuulac toj saß li tenamit Dan. Ut tolêye cue jarubeb chixjunileb re nak tinnau, chan.
3Joab said, “May Yahweh make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, aren’t they all my lord’s servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?”
3Ut laj Joab quixye re: —At rey, aß taxak li Dios chiqßuehok reheb chi tâmc chi nabal eb laj Israel. ¿Ma mâcuaß ta biß rubel âcuanquil cuanqueb chixjunileb? ¿Cßaßut nak nasahoß saß âchßôl chirajlanquileb? ¿Cßaßut nak tâqßueheb chi mâcobc eb laj Israel? chan.
4Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
4Abanan li rey quixpuersi laj Joab chixbânunquil. Joßcan nak queßcôeb ut queßnumeß saß chixjunil li naßajej Israel. Tojoßnak queßsukßi cuißchic Jerusalén. Ut laj Joab quixye re li rey David jarubeb chixjunileb li cristian.
5Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to David. All those of Israel were one million one hundred thousand men who drew sword: and in Judah were four hundred seventy thousand men who drew sword.
5Saß chixjunil li naßajej Israel cuanqueb jun millón riqßuin jun ciento mil chi cuînk li naru teßpletik riqßuin chßîchß. Ut cuanqueb ajcuiß câhib ciento riqßuin lajêb xcâcßâl mil chi cuînk aran Judá li naru teßpletik riqßuin chßîchß.
6But he didn’t count Levi and Benjamin among them; for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
6Abanan laj Joab incßaß quirajlaheb li ralal xcßajol laj Leví chi moco eb li ralal xcßajol laj Benjamín xban nak incßaß quicuulac chiru nak laj David quixtakla rajlanquileb.
7God was displeased with this thing; therefore he struck Israel.
7Ut incßaß ajcuiß quicuulac chiru li Dios nak laj David quixtakla rajlanquileb laj Israel. Joßcan nak quixtakla raylal saß xbêneb.
8David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.”
8Laj David quitijoc ut quixye re li Dios: —At Kâcuaß, nimla mâc li xinbânu. Nintzßâma châcuu nak tâcuy tâsach taxak lin mâc. Xmâcßaßil innaßleb xinbânu cuiß, chan.
9Yahweh spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,
9Ut li Kâcuaß quiâtinac riqßuin li profeta Gad, li naqßuehoc xnaßleb laj David ut quixye re:
10“Go and speak to David, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”
10—Tatxic riqßuin laj David ut tâye re, “Joßcaßin xye li Kâcuaß. Tinye âcue bar cuan li oxib chi raylal naru tinbânu. Tâsicß ru saß xyânkeb li oxib li bar cuan tâcuaj lâat tinbânu,” chan li Dios.
11So Gad came to David, and said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Take your choice:
11Laj Gad cô riqßuin laj David ut quixye re: —Joßcaßin xye li Kâcuaß.
12either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days the sword of Yahweh, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of Yahweh destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.’”
12Tâsicß ru li raylal li tâcuaj lâat. ¿Ma tâcuaj oxib chihab li cueßej saß lâ tenamit? ¿Malaj ut tâcuaj nak teßnumtâk saß âbên li xicß nequeßiloc âcue chiru oxib po? ¿Malaj ut tâcuaj nak tixqßue chak li caki yajel li Kâcuaß chiru oxib cutan nak lix ángel li Kâcuaß tolxcamsiheb li tenamit saß chixjunil li naßajej Israel? Cßoxla chi us cßaßru tâcuaj ut ye cue cßaßru tinye re li ani xtaklan chak cue, chan laj Gad.
13David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Yahweh; for his mercies are very great. Let me not fall into the hand of man.”
13Laj David quixye: —Kßaxal ra saß inchßôl xban li chßaßajquilal cuanquin cuiß. Kßaxal us nak li Kâcuaß tixqßue chak li raylal saß inbên xban nak kßaxal nim li rusilal. Incßaß nacuaj nak tintßanekß saß rukßeb li xicß nequeßiloc cue, chan laj David.
14So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel; and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.
14Joßcan nak li Kâcuaß quixtakla li caki yajel saß xbêneb laj Israel ut queßcam lajêb xcâcßâl mil chi cuînk.
15God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, Yahweh saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” The angel of Yahweh was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
15Ut li Dios quixtakla ajcuiß lix ángel chixsachbal li tenamit Jerusalén. Abanan nak yô chixsachbal ru li tenamit, quiyotßeß xchßôl li Kâcuaß chirilbal li raylal yôqueb chixcßulbal. Quixye re lix ángel: —Tzßakal li xabânu. Mârahobtesiheb chic, chan. Saß li hônal aßan lix ángel li Dios cuan chire li naßajej li narisi cuiß rix li trigo laj Ornán laj jebuseo.
16David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Yahweh standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
16Laj David qui-iloc takekß ut quiril lix ángel li Kâcuaß xakxo saß xyi li choxa ut li ruchichßochß. Ac cauresinbil lix chßîchß saß rukß re xsachbal ru li tenamit Jerusalén. Laj David ut eb li nequeßcßamoc be saß xyânkeb laj Israel queßxhupub ribeb saß chßochß. Ut cuan li kßes ru tßicr chirixeb.
17David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be numbered? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O Yahweh my God, be against me, and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”
17Ut laj David quixye: —At Kâcuaß, lâin xintaklan rajlanquileb li tenamit. Lâin xinbânun re li mâusilal aßin. Lâin cuan inmâc. Eb li tenamit aßin, li chanchaneb carner, mâcßaßeb xmâc. Nintzßâma châcuu nak tâqßue li raylal aßin saß inbên lâin ut saß xbêneb li cualal incßajol. Mâqßue saß xbêneb lâ tenamit, chan.
18Then the angel of Yahweh commanded Gad to tell David that David should go up, and raise an altar to Yahweh in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
18Ut lix ángel li Dios quixtakla laj Gad chixyebal re laj David nak tixyîb jun li artal re xlokßoninquil li Dios saß li naßajej li narisi cuiß rix lix trigo laj Ornán laj jebuseo.
19David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the name of Yahweh.
19Joßcan nak laj David cô chixbânunquil saß xcßabaß li Kâcuaß Dios li cßaßru quiyeheß re xban laj Gad.
20Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
20Laj Ornán yô chirisinquil li rix lix trigo nak quiril lix ángel li Dios. Li câhib chi ralal li cuanqueb rochben queßxmuk ribeb.
21As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
21Nak laj Ornán quiril nak yô chi châlc laj David, qui-el saß li naßajej li narisi cuiß rix lix trigo ut cô chixcßulbal. Ut quixcuikßib rib saß chßochß chiru.
22Then David said to Ornan, “Give me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build thereon an altar to Yahweh. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”
22Laj David quixye re laj Ornán: —Lâin tincuaj xlokßbal lâ naßaj li nacacuisi cuiß rix lâ trigo. Tinyîb jun li artal arin re xlokßoninquil li Dios re nak teßxcanab câmc li tenamit. Lâin tintoj chi tzßakal li naßajej, chan.
23Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Behold, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.”
23Laj Ornán quixye: —At rey, bânu joß nacacßoxla nak us xbânunquil. Tinqßue li naßajej âcue ut tinqßueheb li bôyx aßin chokß re lâ cßatbil mayej. Ut tinqßue ajcuiß chokß re lâ siß li cheß li nacßanjelac re risinquil li rix li trigo. Ut tinqßue li trigo chokß re lâ mayej, chan.
24King David said to Ornan, “No; but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for Yahweh, nor offer a burnt offering without cost.”
24Laj David quixye re: —Incßaß tincßul yal chi joßcan. Lâin tintoj chi tzßakal lix tzßak. Incßaß naru tinmayeja chiru li Kâcuaß li incßaß xintoj rix. Incßaß tinmayeja chiru li moco cue ta, chan.
25So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.
25Joßcan nak laj David quixlokß li naßajej aßan chiru laj Ornán chi cuakib ciento chi tumin oro.
26David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on Yahweh; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.
26Laj David quixyîb li artal saß li naßajej aßan re xlokßoninquil li Dios. Quixqßue lix mayej re xcßambal rib saß usilal riqßuin li Dios ut quixqßue lix cßatbil mayej. Ut quixyâba xcßabaß li Kâcuaß. Ut li Kâcuaß quirabi li cßaßru quixtzßâma chiru ut quixtakla chak li xam saß choxa saß li artal.
27Yahweh commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into its sheath.
27Li Kâcuaß quixye re lix ángel nak tixxoc cuißchic saß xnaßaj lix chßîchß.
28At that time, when David saw that Yahweh had answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
28Laj David quixqßue retal nak li Kâcuaß quixsume lix tij saß li naßajej li narisi cuiß rix lix trigo laj Ornán. Joßcan nak quimayejac aran.
29For the tabernacle of Yahweh, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
29Lix tabernáculo li Kâcuaß li quixyîb laj Moisés saß li chaki chßochß joß ajcuiß li artal li naqßueman cuiß li cßatbil mayej, toj cuan chak saß li tzûl li cuan Gabaón.Abanan laj David incßaß cô aran chi tzßâmânc chiru li Kâcuaß xban nak quixucuac. Quixcßoxla nak mâre lix ángel li Dios tâoc cuißchic chixcamsinquileb li cristian.
30But David couldn’t go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Yahweh.
30Abanan laj David incßaß cô aran chi tzßâmânc chiru li Kâcuaß xban nak quixucuac. Quixcßoxla nak mâre lix ángel li Dios tâoc cuißchic chixcamsinquileb li cristian.
