1It happened that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples.
1Nak laj Apolos cuan Corinto laj Pablo quinume' sa' eb li na'ajej toj quicuulac Efeso. Ut aran quixtauheb jun ch'ûtaleb laj pâbanel.
2He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
2Quixye reheb: -¿Ma quec'ul li Santil Musik'ej nak quexpâban? chan laj Pablo reheb. Ut eb a'an que'xye: -Inc'a' nakanau nak cuan ta li Santil Musik'ej, chanqueb.
3He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”
3Ut laj Pablo quixye reheb: -¿Chanru nak quicubsîc êha'? Eb a'an que'xye: -Li cubi ha' li xkac'ul, a'an li quixbânu laj Juan, chanqueb.
4Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”
4Laj Pablo quixye reheb: -Laj Juan quixcubsiheb xha' li que'xyot' xch'ôl ut que'xjal xc'a'ux. Quixye reheb nak te'pâbânk sa' xc'aba' li Jesucristo li tol-êlk mokon, chan.
5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other languages and prophesied.
7They were about twelve men in all.
8He entered into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for a period of three months, reasoning and persuading about the things concerning the Kingdom of God.
8Chiru oxib po laj Pablo quixch'olob lix yâlal chiruheb laj Efeso chi mâc'a' xxiu sa' li cab li neque'xch'utub cui' ribeb laj judío. Quixyal xk'e xc'utbal chi tz'akal lix yâlal lix nimajcual cuanquilal li Dios.
9But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.
9Cuanqueb li que'xcacuubresi xch'ôleb ut inc'a' que'raj pâbânc. Que'oc chixmajecuanquil li evangelio chiruheb chixjunileb. Jo'can nak laj Pablo quixcanab xch'olobanquil lix yâlal aran sa' li cab li neque'xch'utub cui' ribeb laj judío. Ut quixc'ameb laj pâbanel chirix. Rajlal cutan quixc'ut lix yâlal chiruheb sa' li cab li natzoloc cui' jun li cuînk aj Tiranno xc'aba'.
10This continued for two years, so that all those who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
10Cuib chihab quixbânu chi jo'ca'in. Ut chixjunileb li cuanqueb Asia, eb laj judío, jo'eb ajcui' li mâcua'eb aj judío, que'rabi li râtin li Kâcua' Jesús.
11God worked special miracles by the hands of Paul,
11Ut li Kâcua' Dios quixq'ue xcuanquil laj Pablo chixbânunquil li sachba ch'ôlej.
12so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and the evil spirits went out.
13But some of the itinerant Jews, exorcists, took on themselves to invoke over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.”
Que'xyal xpatz'bal xc'aba' li Kâcua' Jesús sa' xbêneb li cuan mâus aj musik'ej riq'uineb ut que'xye: -Sa' xc'aba' li Jesús li naxjultica laj Pablo, tinye êre elenkex riq'uin li cuînk a'an, chanqueb.
14There were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did this.
14Cuukubeb chi cuînk li yôqueb chi bânûnc re a'in. Ralaleb jun li cuînk aj judío, aj Esceva xc'aba'. A'an li xbênil aj tij.
15The evil spirit answered, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?”
15Sa' jun li cutan jun li mâus aj musik'ej quichak'oc ut quixye reheb: -Ninnau ani li Jesús, ut ninnau ajcui' ani laj Pablo. Ut lâex, ¿anihex? Ut, ¿ani xq'uehoc êcuanquil chi isînc mâus aj musik'ej? chan reheb.
16The man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
A'an k'axal cui'chic cau rib chiruheb. Tacuasinbileb ut pejeleb chic li rak'eb nak que'êlelic sa' li cab a'an.
17This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived at Ephesus. Fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
17Chixjunileb li cuanqueb Efeso que'rabi resil li c'a'ru quic'ulman, jo' aj judío jo' eb ajcui' li mâcua'eb aj judío. Quichal xxiuheb chixjunileb ut k'axal cui'chic que'xq'ue xlok'al li Kâcua' Jesús.
18Many also of those who had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds.
18Ut nabaleb li que'pâban que'chal ut que'xxôto lix mâqueb chiru li Dios chiruheb chixjunileb li cuanqueb aran.
19Many of those who practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. They counted their price, and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. The 50,000 pieces of silver here probably referred to 50,000 drachmas. If so, the value of the burned books was equivalent to about 160 man-years of wages for agricultural laborers
20So the word of the Lord was growing and becoming mighty.
20Ut li râtin li Kâcua' yô chi êlc resil yalak bar ut yô ajcui' chi c'utûnc xcuanquil li Dios.
21Now after these things had ended, Paul determined in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.”
21Nak ac xnume' chixjunil a'in, laj Pablo quixc'oxla xic toj Jerusalén, nak acak xbeni chak Macedonia ut Acaya. Quixye: -Nak acak xinnume' aran, tento ajcui' tinxic Roma chirilbaleb laj pâbanel li cuanqueb aran, chan.
22Having sent into Macedonia two of those who served him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.
22Jo'can nak quixtaklaheb Macedonia laj Timoteo ut laj Erasto, li neque'tenk'an re. Ut laj Pablo toj quicana aran Asia.
23About that time there arose no small stir concerning the Way.
23Ut sa' eb li cutan a'an quiticla jun nimla ch'a'ajquilal xban nak nabaleb yôqueb chixpâbanquil li Dios.
24For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen,

25whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said, “Sirs, you know that by this business we have our wealth.
25Quixch'utubeb chixjunileb li neque'c'anjelac chiru jo'queb ajcui' chixjunileb laj tenol plata ut quixye reheb: -Lâex nequenau nak riq'uin li c'anjel a'in nakabânu, nakac'ul nabal li katumin.
26You see and hear, that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands.
26Ac êrabiom resil nak laj Pablo ac xtacchi'i nabaleb li cuanqueb aran Efeso jo' ajcui' sa' chixjunil li tenamit xcuênt Asia. Ac nequenau nak yô chixyebal reheb nak moco dioseb ta li yal yîbanbil xban cuînk.
27Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing, and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”
27Mâre anchal tâsachk li kac'anjel xban a'an. Ut mâre anchal tâtz'ektânâk ajcui' xlok'al li rochoch lix Diana li kalok'laj dios. Mâre tâsachk lix cuanquilal li kadios li neque'xlok'oni chixjunileb aran Asia, jo' ajcui' li cuanqueb sa' chixjunil li ruchich'och', chan laj Demetrio.
28When they heard this they were filled with anger, and cried out, saying, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
28Ut eb li ch'utch'ûqueb aran c'ajo' nak que'josk'o' nak que'rabi li c'a'ru quixye. Que'xjap reheb chixyebal: -¡Nim xcuanquil lix Diana li kadios lâo aj Efeso! chanqueb.
29The whole city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord into the theater, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel.
29C'ajo' nak que'josk'o' li tenamit. Inc'a' chic jultiqueb re c'a'ru neque'xbânu. Jun xiquiqueb nak côeb chixsic'bal laj Gayo ut laj Aristarco li que'chal chak Macedonia rochben laj Pablo. Ut quelonbileb nak que'c'ame' toj sa' li na'ajej li neque'xch'utub cui' ribeb.
30When Paul wanted to enter in to the people, the disciples didn’t allow him.
30Ut laj Pablo quiraj raj xic chi âtinac riq'uineb li tenamit, abanan eb laj pâbanel inc'a' que'xcanab chi xic.
31Certain also of the Asiarchs, being his friends, sent to him and begged him not to venture into the theater.
31Cuanqueb cuib oxib li ramîg laj Pablo li neque'c'amoc be sa' li tenamit. A'aneb aj Roma. Eb a'an que'xtakla xyebal re laj Pablo nak inc'a' tâxic sa' li na'ajej li neque'xch'utub cui' ribeb li tenamit.
32Some therefore cried one thing, and some another, for the assembly was in confusion. Most of them didn’t know why they had come together.

33They brought Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. Alexander beckoned with his hand, and would have made a defense to the people.
A'an quixtaksi li ruk' re te'xcanab chokînc. Quiraj raj âtinac re xcolbal rib chiruheb li tenamit.
34But when they perceived that he was a Jew, all with one voice for a time of about two hours cried out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
34Nak que'ril nak a'an aj judío junaj xyâb xcuxeb chixjunileb chixyebal: -¡Nim xcuanquil lix Diana li kadios lâo aj Efeso! chanqueb. Ut ca'ch'in chic mâ cuib ôr que'xjap reheb chixyebal a'an.
35When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?
35Nak ac xk'unbesiheb li tenamit laj tz'îb li nac'anjelac sa' pôpol, quixye reheb: -Lâex aj Efeso, ¿ma cuan ta bi' junak inc'a' naxnau nak li katenamit Efeso, a'an li nac'ac'alen re li rochoch lix Diana, li kalok'laj dios? Chixjunileb neque'xnau nak li jalam ûch a'an chalenak chak sa' choxa.
36Seeing then that these things can’t be denied, you ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rash.
36Li kadios inc'a' târûk xsachbal ru. Jo'can nak mêq'ue êjosk'il. C'oxlahomak rix chi us li c'a'ru têbânu.

38If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a matter against anyone, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.
38Cui ut laj Demetrio ut eb laj tenol ch'îch' li neque'c'anjelac riq'uin cuan junak ani te'xjit, teto li pôpol ut cuanqueb aj rakol âtin. Te'jitok aran re nak târûk tâyîbâk ru lix ch'a'ajquilaleb.

40For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning this day’s riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn’t be able to give an account of this commotion.”
