Nehemiah

2

1It happened in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, when wine was before him, that I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad before in his presence.
1Aßin quicßulman saß li po Nisán nak ac yô chic junmay chihab roquic chokß rey laj Artajerjes. Lâin quincßam li vino ut quinqßue re li rey. Nak quincuulac riqßuin li rey quixqßue retal nak lâin ra saß inchßôl. Lâin mâ jun sut quincuulac riqßuin chi ra saß inchßôl.
2The king said to me, “Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart.” Then I was very much afraid.
2Ut li rey quixye cue: —¿Cßaßut nak kßaxal ra saß âchßôl? Lâat moco yajat ta. ¿Cßaßru na-oc âcue? Mâre cuan junak chßaßajquilal yô cuiß âcßaßux, chan. Lâin cßajoß nak qui-oc inxiu nak quixye cue chi joßcan li rey.
3I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why shouldn’t my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?”
3Lâin quinchakßoc ut quinye re: —At rey, chicuânk taxak lâ yußam chi junelic. Lâin ra saß inchßôl xban nak li tenamit li mukbileb cuiß lin xeßtônil yucuaß juqßuinbil ut cßatbileb lix puertil. Aßan aßin lix yâlal nak ra saß inchßôl.—
4Then the king said to me, “For what do you make request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.
4Ut li rey quixye cue: —¿Cßaßru tâcuaj tinbânu?— Ut saß li hônal aßan quinpatzß intenkßanquil riqßuin li Dios li cuan saß choxa.
5I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, that you would send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may build it.”
5Ut quinye re li rey: —At rey, cui cßojcßo âchßôl cuiqßuin ut cui lâat tixcßul âchßôl, tâbânu raj li usilal cue. Lâin nacuaj raj xic Judá re nak tinyîb cuißchic li tenamit li mukbileb cuiß lin xeßtônil yucuaß.—
6The king said to me (the queen was also sitting by him), “For how long shall your journey be? And when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
6Li rixakil chunchu chixcßatk nak li rey quixpatzß cue: —¿Joß najtil tatbâyk chak nak tatxic? Ut, ¿jokße tatsukßîk chak?— Lâin quinye re joß najtil tinbâyk chak ut quixcßul xchßôl li rey nak tinxic Judá.
7Moreover I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the River, that they may let me pass through until I come to Judah;
7Ut quintzßâma ajcuiß chiru li rey nak cui aßan tixcßul xchßôl, tixtzßîba li hu reheb li nequeßtaklan saß li tenamit li cuanqueb jun pacßal li nimaß Eufrates re nak târûk tinnumekß aran toj tincuulak Judá chi mâcßaß chßaßajquilal.
8and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into.” The king granted my requests, because of the good hand of my God on me.
8Ut quinye ajcuiß re nak tixtzßîba junak li hu re laj Asaf li na-iloc re li qßuicheß bar narisi cuiß xcheß li rey. Tixye re nak tixqßue incheß re tinyîb cuißchic xpuertil li oquebâl re li tenamit joß ajcuiß li tzßac li sutsu cuiß li tenamit ut re nak tinyîb ajcuiß li cuochoch bar tincuânk cuiß lâin. Ut li rey quixqßue cue chixjunil li quintzßâma xban nak li Kâcuaß Dios yô chi tenkßânc cue.
9Then I came to the governors beyond the River, and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent with me captains of the army and horsemen.
9Nak quincuulac jun pacßal li nimaß Eufrates côin riqßuineb li nequeßtaklan aran ut quinkßaxtesi li hu reheb li quixtzßîba li rey. Cuanqueb li nequeßcßamoc be saß xyânkeb li soldado li queßtaklâc chicuix xban li rey ut cuanqueb ajcuiß li soldado li nequeßbêc chirix cacuây li queßcôeb chicuix.
10When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly, because a man had come to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
10Laj Sanbalat, Horón xtenamit ut laj Tobías li nataklan saß li tenamit Amón, cßajoß nak queßjoskßoß nak queßrabi nak quincuulac chixtenkßanquileb laj Israel.
11So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days.
11Nak ac cuan chic oxib cutan incuulajic Jerusalén,
12I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God put into my heart to do for Jerusalem; neither was there any animal with me, except the animal that I rode on.
12quincuacli chi kßek cuochbeneb cuib oxib li cuînk. Abanan mâ ani aj e quinye li cßaßru quixye cue li Dios tinbânu re xtenkßanquil li tenamit Jerusalén. Mâ ani chic quixcßam xcacuây. Caßaj cuiß lâin.
13I went out by night by the valley gate, even toward the jackal’s well, and to the dung gate, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and its gates were consumed with fire.
13Toj kßojyîn ajcuiß nak quin-el saß li puerta li na-iloc saß li ru takßa saß xjayal li yußam haß Dragón xcßabaß ut côin toj saß li puerta li nequeßrisi cuiß li mul. Nak yôquin chi xic yôquin chirilbal chanru li tzßac li juqßuinbil li sutsu cuiß li tenamit Jerusalén ut yôquin ajcuiß chirilbaleb li puerta li cßatbileb.
14Then I went on to the spring gate and to the king’s pool: but there was no place for the animal that was under me to pass.
14Chirix aßan quinnumeß saß li puerta cuan cuiß li yußam haß ut côin quicuan cuiß lix pila li rey. Abanan mâ bar quiru chi numecß lin cacuây.
15Then went I up in the night by the brook, and viewed the wall; and I turned back, and entered by the valley gate, and so returned.
15Toj kßojyîn ajcuiß nak quinnumeß saß li rok haß ut yôquin chirilbaleb li tzßac li jucßbileb. Chirix aßan quinsukßi cuißchic saß li oquebâl li na-iloc saß li ru takßa.
16The rulers didn’t know where I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest who did the work.
16Eb li nequeßtaklan saß li tenamit incßaß queßxnau bar côin chi moco queßxnau cßaßru quinbânu chak. Chi moco quinye reheb laj judío, chi moco laj tij, chi moco li cuanqueb saß xcuanquil. Chi moco eb li teßtenkßânk saß li cßanjel aßin queßxnau cßaßru yôquin.
17Then I said to them, “You see the evil case that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we won’t be disgraced.”
17Lâin quinye reheb: —Lâex nequenau li raylal cuanco cuiß. Lâex nequenau nak li tenamit Jerusalén juqßuinbil ut eb lix puertil cßataleb. Joßcan nak quimkex ut qßuehomak êchßôl re nak takayîb cuißchic li tzßac li sutsu cuiß li tenamit re nak incßaß chic toxutânâk xban li katenamit Jerusalén.—
18I told them of the hand of my God which was good on me, as also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me. They said, “Let’s rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work.
18Ut lâin quinserakßi reheb chanru nak quinixtenkßa li Dios riqßuin xnimal rusilal. Ut quinserakßi ajcuiß reheb li cßaßru quixye cue li rey. Ut eb aßan queßxye: —Ocako chi cßanjelac. Takayîb cuißchic li katenamit, chanqueb. Ut queßxqßue xchßôl chi cßanjelac chixjûnkaleb.
19But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they ridiculed us, and despised us, and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? Will you rebel against the king?”
19Nak queßrabi laj Sanbalat aj Horón ut laj Tobías li nataklan aran Amón, ut laj Gesem aj árabe, queßoc chikaseßenquil ut coeßxhob ut queßxye ke: —¿Cßaßru yôquex lâex? ¿Ma têkßet xchakßrab li rey saß êchßôl lâex? chanqueb.Ut lâin quinchakßoc ut quinye reheb: —Li Dios li cuan saß choxa, aßan tâtenkßânk ke. Ut lâo li nococßanjelac chiru, takayîb cuißchic li tenamit Jerusalén. Ut lâex incßaß naru têchßic êrib kiqßuin xban nak mâcuaß lâex yal êre ut xban nak mâcßaß cuan êre Jerusalén.—
20Then answered I them, and said to them, “The God of heaven will prosper us. Therefore we, his servants, will arise and build; but you have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.”
20Ut lâin quinchakßoc ut quinye reheb: —Li Dios li cuan saß choxa, aßan tâtenkßânk ke. Ut lâo li nococßanjelac chiru, takayîb cuißchic li tenamit Jerusalén. Ut lâex incßaß naru têchßic êrib kiqßuin xban nak mâcuaß lâex yal êre ut xban nak mâcßaß cuan êre Jerusalén.—
