¹It shall happen, when all these things have come on you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you shall call them to mind among all the nations, where Yahweh your God has driven you,

¹Når da alle disse ting kommer over dig, velsignelsen og forbannelsen som jeg har forelagt dig, og du tar det til hjerte ute blandt alle de folk som Herren din Gud har drevet dig bort til,

²and shall return to Yahweh your God, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul;

²og du av alt ditt hjerte og all din sjel omvender dig til Herren din Gud og hører på hans røst i alt det som jeg byder dig idag, både du og dine barn,

³that then Yahweh your God will turn your captivity, and have compassion on you, and will return and gather you from all the peoples, where Yahweh your God has scattered you.

³da skal Herren din Gud gjøre ende på ditt fangenskap og miskunne sig over dig, og han skal atter samle dig fra alle de folk som Herren din Gud hadde spredt dig iblandt.

⁴If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of the heavens, from there will Yahweh your God gather you, and from there he will bring you back:

⁴Om I enn er drevet bort til himmelens ende, skal Herren din Gud samle dig og hente dig derifra.

⁵and Yahweh your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and he will do you good, and multiply you above your fathers.

⁵Og Herren din Gud skal føre dig til det land dine fedre eide, og du skal ta det i eie; og han skal gjøre vel imot dig og gjøre dig tallrikere enn dine fedre.

⁶Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.

⁶Og Herren din Gud skal omskjære ditt hjerte og dine efterkommeres hjerte, så du elsker Herren din Gud av alt ditt hjerte og av all din sjel, og da skal du få leve.

⁷Yahweh your God will put all these curses on your enemies, and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.

⁷Og Herren din Gud skal legge alle disse forbannelser på dine fiender og på dem som har hatet og forfulgt dig.

⁸You shall return and obey the voice of Yahweh, and do all his commandments which I command you this day.

⁸Men du skal atter høre på Herrens røst og holde alle hans bud, som jeg gir dig idag.

⁹Yahweh your God will make you plenteous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, for good: for Yahweh will again rejoice over you for good, as he rejoiced over your fathers;

⁹Og Herren din Gud skal gi dig overflod på det som godt er, i alt det som du tar dig fore, både av ditt livs frukt og av frukten av ditt fe og av frukten av din jord; for Herren skal atter glede sig over dig og gjøre vel imot dig, likesom han gledet sig over dine fedre,

¹⁰if you shall obey the voice of Yahweh your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if you turn to Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul.

¹⁰så sant du hører på Herrens, din Guds røst, så du tar vare på hans bud og hans lover, det som er skrevet i denne lovens bok, og så sant du omvender dig til Herren din Gud av alt ditt hjerte og av all din sjel.

¹¹For this commandment which I command you this day, it is not too hard for you, neither is it far off.

¹¹For dette bud som jeg gir dig idag, er ikke for høit for dig, og det er ikke langt borte.

¹²It is not in heaven, that you should say, “Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it to us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?”

¹²Det er ikke oppe i himmelen, så du måtte si: Hvem vil fare op til himmelen for oss og hente det ned til oss og la oss høre det, så vi kan gjøre efter det?

¹³Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, “Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?”

¹³Det er heller ikke på den andre side av havet, så du måtte si: Hvem vil fare over havet for oss og hente det til oss og la oss høre det, så vi kan gjøre efter det?

¹⁴But the word is very near to you, in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may do it.

¹⁴Men ordet er dig meget nær, i din munn og i ditt hjerte, så du kan gjøre efter det.

¹⁵Behold, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil;

¹⁵Se, jeg har idag lagt frem for dig livet og det gode, og døden og det onde,

¹⁶in that I command you this day to love Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.

¹⁶idet jeg idag byder dig å elske Herren din Gud, å vandre på hans veier og ta vare på hans bud og hans lover og hans forskrifter, så du kan leve og bli tallrik, og Herren din Gud kan velsigne dig i det land du kommer inn i og skal ta i eie.

¹⁷But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but shall be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;

¹⁷Men dersom ditt hjerte vender sig bort, og du ikke vil lyde, men lar dig forføre og tilbeder andre guder og dyrker dem,

¹⁸I denounce to you this day, that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land, where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.

¹⁸da forkynner jeg eder idag at I skal gå helt til grunne; I skal ikke leve lenge i det land som du nu drar til over Jordan for å komme inn i det og ta det i eie.

¹⁹I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your seed;

¹⁹Jeg tar idag himmelen og jorden til vidne mot eder: Livet og døden har jeg lagt frem for dig, velsignelsen og forbannelsen; velg da livet, så skal du få leve, du og din ætt!

²⁰to love Yahweh your God, to obey his voice, and to cling to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days; that you may dwell in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

²⁰Elsk Herren din Gud, hør på hans røst og hold fast ved ham! For dette er ditt liv, og da skal du nå en høi alder og få bli i det land som Herren tilsvor dine fedre Abraham, Isak og Jakob å ville gi dem.
