¹The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

¹Dette er det ord som kom til Jeremias fra Herren:

²Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

²Hør denne pakts ord og tal til Judas menn og til Jerusalems innbyggere!

³and say to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Cursed is the man who doesn’t hear the words of this covenant,

³Og du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Forbannet være den mann som ikke hører denne pakts ord,

⁴which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so you shall be my people, and I will be your God;

⁴den som jeg bød eders fedre den dag jeg førte dem ut av Egyptens land, av jernovnen, da jeg sa: Hør på min røst og gjør disse ting i ett og alt således som jeg byder eder, så skal I være mitt folk, og jeg vil være eders Gud,

⁵that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, Yahweh.

⁵så jeg kan holde den ed jeg svor eders fedre, at jeg vilde gi dem et land som flyter med melk og honning, således som det kan sees på denne dag. Og jeg svarte: Amen, Herre!

⁶Yahweh said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear the words of this covenant, and do them.

⁶Og Herren sa til mig: Rop ut alle disse ord i Judas byer og på Jerusalems gater og si: Hør denne pakts ord og gjør efter dem!

⁷For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

⁷For jeg vidnet for eders fedre den dag jeg førte dem op fra Egyptens land, og helt til denne dag, tidlig og sent, og sa: Hør på min røst!

⁸Yet they didn’t obey, nor turn their ear, but walked everyone in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they didn’t do them.

⁸Men de hørte ikke og vendte ikke sitt øre til; de fulgte hver sitt onde, hårde hjerte; så lot jeg komme over dem alle denne pakts ord, som jeg hadde befalt dem å holde, men som de ikke hadde holdt.

⁹Yahweh said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

⁹Og Herren sa til mig: Det er funnet en sammensvergelse blandt Judas menn og blandt Jerusalems innbyggere.

¹⁰They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

¹⁰De har vendt tilbake til sine forfedres misgjerninger, de som ikke vilde høre mine ord, og de har fulgt andre guder og dyrket dem; Israels hus og Judas hus har brutt den pakt som jeg gjorde med deres fedre.

¹¹Therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them.

¹¹Derfor sier Herren så: Se, jeg fører en ulykke over dem, som de ikke kan komme unda, og når de roper til mig, vil jeg ikke høre på dem.

¹²Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense: but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

¹²Og Judas byer og Jerusalems innbyggere skal gå avsted og rope til de guder som de brenner røkelse for; men de skal ikke frelse dem i deres ulykkes tid.

¹³For according to the number of your cities are your gods, Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have you set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

¹³For så mange som dine byer er, så mange er dine guder, Juda, og så mange som Jerusalems gater er, så mange alter har I reist for den skammelige avgud, alter til å brenne røkelse på for Ba'al.

¹⁴Therefore don’t pray for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me because of their trouble.

¹⁴Og du skal ikke bede for dette folk og ikke opløfte klagerop og bønn for dem; for jeg hører ikke når de roper til mig for sin ulykkes skyld.

¹⁵What has my beloved to do in my house, since she has worked lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from you? when you do evil, then you rejoice.

¹⁵Hvad har min elskede å gjøre i mitt hus? Vil de mange gjøre skammelige gjerninger og mene at det hellige offerkjøtt skal ta det bort fra dig? Når du gjør ondt, da jubler du.

¹⁶Yahweh called your name, A green olive tree, beautiful with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire on it, and its branches are broken.

¹⁶Et grønt oljetre prydet med fager frukt kalte Herren dig; under stort og veldig bulder tender han ild på det, og dets grener brytes itu.

¹⁷For Yahweh of Armies, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have worked for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

¹⁷Og Herren, hærskarenes Gud, som plantet dig, har talt ondt over dig for den ondskaps skyld som Israels hus og Judas hus har gjort, så de har vakt min harme ved å brenne røkelse for Ba'al.

¹⁸Yahweh gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it: then you showed me their doings.

¹⁸Herren lot mig få vite det*, og jeg vet det; da lot du mig se deres gjerninger. / {* mine fienders onde råd imot mig; JER 11, 19.}

¹⁹But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I didn’t know that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

¹⁹Og jeg var som et spakferdig lam som føres bort for å slaktes, og jeg visste ikke at de hadde uttenkt onde råd mot mig og sagt: La oss ødelegge treet med dets frukt og utrydde ham av de levendes land, så ingen mere kommer hans navn i hu!

²⁰But, Yahweh of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, I shall see your vengeance on them; for to you have I revealed my cause.

²⁰Men Herren, hærskarenes Gud, er en rettferdig dommer, han prøver nyrer og hjerte; jeg skal se din hevn over dem; for jeg har lagt min sak frem for dig.

²¹Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, You shall not prophesy in the name of Yahweh, that you not die by our hand;

²¹Derfor sier Herren så om Anatots menn, som står dig efter livet og sier: Du skal ikke profetere i Herrens navn, forat du ikke skal dø for vår hånd,

²²therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine;

²²- derfor sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, så: Se, jeg vil hjemsøke dem; deres unge menn skal dø ved sverd, deres sønner og døtre skal dø av sult,

²³and there shall be no remnant to them: for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

²³og de skal ikke ha noget tilbake; for jeg fører ulykke over Anatots menn i det år de blir hjemsøkt.
