¹In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word from Yahweh, saying,

¹I begynnelsen av Judas konge Jojakims, Josias' sønns regjering kom dette ord fra Herren:

²Thus says Yahweh: Stand in the court of Yahweh’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Yahweh’s house, all the words that I command you to speak to them; don’t diminish a word.

²Så sier Herren: Stå frem i forgården til Herrens hus og tal til alle Judas byer, som kommer for å tilbede i Herrens hus, alle de ord jeg har befalt dig å tale til dem! Ta ikke et ord fra!

³It may be they will listen, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent me of the evil which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their doings.

³Kan hende de vil høre og vende om, hver fra sin onde vei; så vil jeg angre det onde jeg tenker på å gjøre dem for deres onde gjerningers skyld.

⁴You shall tell them, Thus says Yahweh: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

⁴Og du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren: Dersom I ikke vil høre på mig, så I følger den lov som jeg har forelagt eder,

⁵to listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I send to you, even rising up early and sending them, but you have not listened;

⁵og hører på mine tjenere profetenes ord, dem som jeg sender til eder både tidlig og sent, uten at I hører,

⁶then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

⁶så vil jeg gjøre med dette hus som med Silo, og denne by vil jeg gjøre til en forbannelse for alle jordens folkeslag.

⁷The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Yahweh.

⁷Og prestene og profetene og hele folket hørte Jeremias tale disse ord i Herrens hus.

⁸It happened, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that Yahweh had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying, You shall surely die.

⁸Og da Jeremias var ferdig med å tale alt det Herren hadde befalt ham å tale til hele folket, da grep de ham, prestene og profetene og hele folket, og sa: Du skal dø.

⁹Why have you prophesied in the name of Yahweh, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant? All the people were gathered to Jeremiah in the house of Yahweh.

⁹Hvorfor har du profetert i Herrens navn og sagt: Det skal gå med dette hus som med Silo, og denne by skal bli øde, uten innbyggere? Og alt folket samlet sig imot Jeremias i Herrens hus.

¹⁰When the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the house of Yahweh; and they sat in the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house.

¹⁰Da Judas høvdinger hørte dette, gikk de fra kongens hus op til Herrens hus, og de satte sig i inngangen til Herrens nye port.

¹¹Then spoke the priests and the prophets to the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy of death; for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.

¹²Then spoke Jeremiah to all the princes and to all the people, saying, Yahweh sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.

¹²Da sa Jeremias til alle høvdingene og til alt folket: Herren har sendt mig for å profetere mot dette hus og mot denne by alt det I har hørt.

¹³Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of Yahweh your God; and Yahweh will repent him of the evil that he has pronounced against you.

¹³Så bedre nu eders veier og eders gjerninger og hør på Herrens, eders Guds røst! Så skal Herren angre det onde han har talt imot eder.

¹⁴But as for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as is good and right in your eyes.

¹⁴Og jeg, se, jeg er i eders hånd; gjør med mig således som godt og rett er i eders øine!

¹⁵Only know for certain that, if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants; for of a truth Yahweh has sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.

¹⁵Men det skal I vite at dersom I dreper mig, da fører I uskyldig blod over eder selv og over denne by og dens innbyggere; for Herren har i sannhet sendt mig til eder forat jeg skulde tale alle disse ord for eders ører.

¹⁶Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: This man is not worthy of death; for he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God.

¹⁶Da sa høvdingene og alt folket til prestene og profetene: Denne mann er ikke skyldig til å dø; for i Herrens, vår Guds navn har han talt til oss.

¹⁷Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying,

¹⁷Og nogen av landets eldste stod op og sa til hele folkets forsamling:

¹⁸Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

¹⁸Mika fra Moreset profeterte i Judas konge Esekias' dager og sa til alt Judas folk: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Sion skal pløies som en aker, og Jerusalem bli til grusdynger og tempelberget til skogbakker.

¹⁹Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Didn’t he fear Yahweh, and entreat the favor of Yahweh, and Yahweh relented of the disaster which he had pronounced against them? Thus should we commit great evil against our own souls.

¹⁹Drepte vel Judas konge Esekias og hele Juda ham? Fryktet han ikke Herren og bønnfalt ham, så Herren angret det onde han hadde talt imot dem? Og vi er i ferd med å føre en stor ulykke over oss selv!

²⁰There was also a man who prophesied in the name of Yahweh, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath Jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

²⁰Det var også en annen mann som profeterte i Herrens navn, Uria, Semajas sønn, fra Kirjat-Jearim, og han profeterte mot denne by og dette land aldeles som Jeremias gjorde.

²¹and when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt:

²¹Og kong Jojakim og alle hans krigsmenn og alle høvdingene hørte hans ord, og kongen søkte å drepe ham; men Uria fikk høre det og blev redd, og han flyktet og kom til Egypten.

²²and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt;

²²Da sendte kong Jojakim nogen menn til Egypten, Elnatan, Akbors sønn, og nogen andre menn med ham,

²³and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

²³og de hentet Uria fra Egypten og førte ham til kong Jojakim; og han lot ham drepe med sverd og kastet hans lik mellem almuens graver.

²⁴But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

²⁴Men Akikam, Safans sønn, holdt sin hånd over Jeremias, så han ikke blev overgitt i folkets hånd til å drepes.
