¹Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.

¹ هرکه ایمان دارد كه عیسی، مسیح است فرزند خداست و هرکه پدر را دوست دارد فرزند او را نیز دوست خواهد داشت.

²By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.

² ما چگونه می‌دانیم كه فرزندان خدا را دوست داریم؟ از اینكه خدا را دوست داریم و مطابق احكام او عمل می‌کنیم.

³For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous.

³ زیرا محبّت به خدا چیزی جز اطاعت از احكام او نیست و این احكام بار سنگینی نیست،

⁴For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.

⁴ زیرا همهٔ فرزندان خدا بر این جهان غلبه یافته‌اند و ما این پیروزی را به وسیلهٔ ایمان به دست آورده‌ایم.

⁵Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

⁵ و كسی بر جهان پیروز نمی‌شود مگر آن كسی ایمان دارد كه عیسی، پسر خداست!

⁶This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

⁶ آمدن مسیح با تعمید و ریختن خون خودش همراه بود. آمدن او نه تنها با آب تعمید، بلكه هم با آب تعمید و هم با خون خودش ثابت گردید. روح خدا كه حقیقت محض است نیز این را تصدیق می‌کند.

⁷For there are three who testify Only a few recent manuscripts add “in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that testify on earth” :

⁷ پس سه شاهد وجود دارد:

⁸the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one.

⁸ روح خدا، آب و خون؛ و شهادت این سه شاهد با هم سازگار است.

⁹If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God’s testimony which he has testified concerning his Son.

⁹ ما كه شهادت انسان را می‌پذیریم، با شهادت خدا كه قویتر است چه خواهیم كرد؟ و این شهادتی است كه او برای پسر خود داده است.

¹⁰He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn’t believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.

¹⁰ هرکه به پسر خدا ایمان آورد، این شهادت را در دل خود دارد، امّا هرکه شهادت خدا را قبول نكند و گواهی او را در مورد پسرش نپذیرد، خدا را دروغگو شمرده است.

¹¹The testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

¹¹ شهادت این است كه خدا به ما حیات جاودانی داده است و این حیات در پسر او یافت می‌شود.

¹²He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn’t have God’s Son doesn’t have the life.

¹² هرکه پسر را دارد، حیات دارد و هرکه پسر خدا را ندارد، صاحب حیات نیست.

¹³These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

¹³ این نامه را نوشتم تا شما كه به نام پسر خدا ایمان دارید، یقین بدانید كه حیات جاودانی دارید.

¹⁴This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.

¹⁴ اطمینان ما در حضور خدا این است كه اگر از او چیزی بخواهیم كه مطابق ارادهٔ او باشد، به ما گوش خواهد داد.

¹⁵And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

¹⁵ ما می‌دانیم كه هرچه بخواهیم او به ما گوش می‌دهد. پس این را هم باید بدانیم كه آنچه از او بطلبیم به ما عطا خواهد فرمود.

¹⁶If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I don’t say that he should make a request concerning this.

¹⁶ اگر كسی می‌بیند كه ایمانداری مرتكب گناهی شده است كه منجر به مرگ نیست، باید برای او به درگاه خداوند دعا كند و اگر آن شخص مرتكب چنین گناهی نشده باشد، خدا به او زندگی خواهد بخشید. امّا گناهی هم هست كه به مرگ منجر می‌شود و من نمی‌گویم كه در مورد آن دعا كنید.

¹⁷All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.

¹⁷ البتّه هر خطایی گناه است، امّا هر گناهی منجر به مرگ نمی‌شود.

¹⁸We know that whoever is born of God doesn’t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’t touch him.

¹⁸ ما می‌دانیم كه فرزندان خدا در گناه زندگی نمی‌کنند، زیرا پسر خدا آنها را حفظ خواهد كرد و شیطان به آنان دسترسی ندارد.

¹⁹We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

¹⁹ می‌دانیم كه ما فرزندان خدا هستیم درحالی‌که تمام دنیا تحت تسلّط شیطان است.

²⁰We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

²⁰ ما می‌دانیم كه پسر خدا آمده و به ما فهم آن را داده است كه خدای حقیقی را بشناسیم، ما با خدای حقیقی و با پسر او عیسی مسیح متّحد هستیم. این است خدای حقیقی و این است حیات جاودانی. ای فرزندان من، از بُتها دوری جویید.

²¹Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
