¹Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

¹ رحبعام به شکیم رفت، در آنجا تمام طایفه‌های شمالی گرد آمده بودند تا او را به پادشاهی برگزینند.

²It happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was yet in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt,

² هنگامی‌که ‌یربعام پسر نباط، که از دست سلیمان به مصر فرار کرده بود، این خبر را شنید از مصر بازگشت.

³and they sent and called him), that Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

³ مردم طایفه‌های شمالی به دنبال او فرستادند و همه با هم به نزد رحبعام رفتند و به او گفتند:

⁴“Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”

⁴ سلیمان پدر تو با خشونت با ما رفتار کرد و بار سنگینی بر دوش ما نهاد، شما این بار را سبکتر کنید و زندگی را برای ما آسانتر کنید و ما بندگان وفادار تو خواهیم بود.

⁵He said to them, “Depart for three days, then come back to me.” The people departed.

⁵ او به ایشان گفت: «بروید و بعد از سه روز بازگردید تا به شما پاسخ دهم.» پس آنها رفتند.

⁶King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?”

⁶ رحبعام پادشاه با ریش‌سفیدانی که مشاور پدرش سلیمان بودند، مشورت کرد و پرسید: «به نظر شما به این مردم چه پاسخی بدهم؟»

⁷They spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”

⁷ ایشان پاسخ دادند: «اگر می‌خواهی به این مردم خوب خدمت کنی، به درخواست آنها پاسخ مساعد بده و آنها برای همیشه خدمتگزار وفادار تو خواهند بود.»

⁸But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

⁸ امّا او پند بزرگسالان را ندیده گرفت و در عوض نزد جوانانی که با او پرورش یافته بودند و حالا مشاور او بودند، رفت.

⁹He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?’”

⁹ از ایشان پرسید: «شما چه پیشنهادی دارید؟ به این مردم که می‌گویند بار ما را سبکتر کن چه بگویم؟»

¹⁰The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell this people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;’ you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

¹⁰ جوانانی که با او پرورش یافته بودند پاسخ دادند: «به ایشان چنین بگو 'انگشت کوچک من از کمر پدرم کلفت‌تر است.

¹¹Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”

¹¹ اگر پدرم بار سنگین بر شما نهاده بود من آن را سنگین‌تر می‌کنم. پدرم شما را با شلاق تنبیه می‌کرد، من شما را با شلاق چرمی تنبیه خواهم کرد.'»

¹²So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”

¹² بعد از سه روز یربعام و قوم اسرائیل نزد رحبعام آمدند.

¹³The king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him,

¹³ پادشاه با خشونت به مردم پاسخ داد. او راهنمایی بزرگسالان را نشنیده گرفت.

¹⁴and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”

¹⁴ او مطابق مشورت مردان جوان به ایشان گفت: «پدرم بار سنگین بر شما نهاد، امّا من آن را سنگین‌تر می‌کنم. پدرم شما را با شلاق تنبیه کرد، ولی من شما را با شلاق چرمی تنبیه خواهم کرد.»

¹⁵So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

¹⁵ پس پادشاه به مردم گوش نداد، زیرا خواست خداوند چنین بود تا وعده‌ای را که توسط اخیای نبی به یربعام داده بود، عملی سازد.

¹⁶When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? Neither do we have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.

¹⁶ هنگامی‌که مردم اسرائیل دیدند که پادشاه به آنها گوش نمی‌دهد، به فریاد پادشاه پاسخ دادند: «ما چه سهمی ‌در داوود داریم؟ ما میراثی از پسر یَسی نداریم، ای مردم اسرائیل به خانه‌های خود بازگردید. و بگذارید رحبعام اکنون به خانهٔ خود بنگرد.» پس بنی‌اسرائیل به خانه‌های خود رفتند.

¹⁷But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

¹⁷ امّا رحبعام بر مردم اسرائیل که در شهرهای یهودا ساکن بودند حکومت کرد.

¹⁸Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

¹⁸ رحبعام پادشاه، ادونیرام را که سرپرست کارگران اجباری بود فرستاد و همهٔ مردم اسرائیل او را سنگسار کردند تا مرد و رحبعام پادشاه با شتاب بر ارابهٔ خود سوار شد و به اورشلیم گریخت.

¹⁹So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.

¹⁹ پس تا به امروز طایفه‌های شمالی اسرائیل، علیه خاندان داوود سرکشی می‌کنند.

²⁰It happened, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, that they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

²⁰ هنگامی‌که همهٔ مردم اسرائیل شنیدند که یربعام از مصر بازگشته است، به دور یكدیگر جمع شدند و او را پادشاه اسرائیل کردند. تنها مردم طایفهٔ یهودا به خاندان داوود وفادار ماندند.

²¹When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

²¹ هنگامی‌که رحبعام به اورشلیم آمد، همهٔ افراد طایفه‌های یهودا و بنیامین را که یکصد و هشتاد هزار نفر جنگاور برگزیده بودند، جمع کرد تا به جنگ اسرائیل بروند و پادشاهی را به رحبعام، پسر سلیمان بازگرداند.

²²But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

²² امّا کلام خدا بر شمعیا مرد خدا، آمد و فرمود:

²³“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,

²³ به رحبعام، پسر سلیمان، و تمام مردم یهودا و بنیامین بگو

²⁴‘Thus says Yahweh, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to the word of Yahweh, and returned and went their way, according to the word of Yahweh.

²⁴ خداوند چنین می‌فرماید: «شما نباید بروید و با برادران اسرائیلی خود بجنگید. هرکس به خانهٔ خود بازگردد، زیرا این خواست من است.» همهٔ آنها فرمان خداوند را پیروی کردند و به خانهٔ خود رفتند.

²⁵Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived in it; and he went out from there, and built Penuel.

²⁵ آنگاه یربعام شهر شکیم را در کوهپایه‌های افرایم بازسازی نمود و در آنجا زندگی کرد. پس از چندی به شهر فنوئیل رفت و آنجا را ساخت.

²⁶Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.

²⁶ یربعام با خود اندیشید: «طولی نمی‌کشد که پادشاهی به خاندان داوود باز خواهد گشت.

²⁷If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”

²⁷ اگر این مردم پیوسته برای تقدیم قربانی‌ها در معبد بزرگ در اورشلیم به آنجا بروند، دوباره به سوی سرورشان، رحبعام، پادشاه یهودا بازگشت می‌کنند و با رحبعام پادشاه یهودا متّحد گشته مرا خواهند کشت.»

²⁸Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and see your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”

²⁸ پادشاه بعد از بررسی دو گوسالهٔ طلایی ساخت و به مردم گفت: «شما به اندازهٔ کافی به اورشلیم رفته‌اید، اینان خدایان شما هستند که شما را از سرزمین مصر خارج کردند.»

²⁹He set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

²⁹ آنگاه یکی از آن دو بت را در بیت‌ئیل و دیگری را در دان قرار داد.

³⁰This thing became a sin; for the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan.

³⁰ مردم با رفتن و پرستش در بیت‌ئیل و دان مرتکب گناه شدند.

³¹He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

³¹ یربعام همچنین در بالای تپّه‌ها پرستشگاههایی ساخت و کاهنانی را که از طایفهٔ لاوی نبودند، برگزید.

³²Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar; he did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.

³² یربعام جشنی در ماه هشتم در روز پانزدهم ماه مانند جشنی که در یهودا بود برگزار کرد و در قربانگاه، قربانی تقدیم می‌کرد همچنین در بیت‌ئیل نیز در برابر گوساله‌هایی که ساخته بود، چنین کرد و در بیت‌ئیل در پرستشگاههایی که بر بالای تپّه‌ها ساخته بود، کاهنانی گماشت. در پانزدهم روز ماه هشتم، ماهی که خودش برگزیده بود، به قربانگاهی که در بیت‌ئیل ساخته بود رفت. او برای قوم اسرائیل جشنی قرار داد و به سوی قربانگاه رفت تا بُخور بسوزاند.

³³He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up to the altar, to burn incense.

³³ در پانزدهم روز ماه هشتم، ماهی که خودش برگزیده بود، به قربانگاهی که در بیت‌ئیل ساخته بود رفت. او برای قوم اسرائیل جشنی قرار داد و به سوی قربانگاه رفت تا بُخور بسوزاند.
