¹In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

¹ در هجدهمین سال سلطنت یربعام، ابیا پادشاه یهودا شد.

²He reigned three years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

² او مدّت سه سال در اورشلیم سلطنت کرد. مادرش میکایا، دختر اوریئیل و از اهالی شهر جبعه بود. بین ابیا و یربعام جنگ در گرفت.

³Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.

³ ابیا به نبرد پرداخت. ارتش او شامل چهارصد هزار نفر از مردان برگزیدهٔ کارآزموده و شجاع بود. یربعام نیز در برابر او با هشتصد هزار نفر جنگجوی برگزیدهٔ توانا، صف‌آرایی کرد.

⁴Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:

⁴ ابیا بر کوه صماریم، در کوهستان افرایم ایستاد و به یربعام و مردم اسرائیل گفت: «ای یربعام و همهٔ مردم اسرائیل به من گوش بدهید!

⁵Ought you not to know that Yahweh, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

⁵ آیا نمی‌دانید که خداوند، خدای اسرائیل، پادشاهی اسرائیل را تا ابد به فرزندان داوود داده است و با ایشان با نمک پیمان بسته است.

⁶Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.

⁶ امّا یربعام پسر نباط، که بندهٔ سلیمان پسر داوود بود، علیه سرور خود شورش کرد.

⁷There were gathered to him worthless men, base fellows, who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.

⁷ گروهی از فرومایگان رسوا، گرد او جمع شدند و ارادهٔ خود را به رحبعام، كه نوجوان و بی‌تجربه بود و نمی‌توانست در برابر ایشان مقاومت کند، تحمیل کردند.

⁸“Now you think to withstand the kingdom of Yahweh in the hand of the sons of David; and you are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.

⁸ اکنون نقشه می‌کشید در برابر پادشاهی خداوند که در دست پسران داوود است بایستید، چون تعداد شما زیاد است و گوساله‌های طلایی را که یربعام به عنوان خدا برای شما ساخت با خود به همراه دارید.

⁹Haven’t you driven out the priests of Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves after the ways of the peoples of other lands? so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams, the same may be a priest of those who are no gods.

⁹ آیا شما کاهنان خداوند و لاویان و بازماندگان هارون را بیرون نرانده‌اید و برای خود کاهنانی مانند سرزمین‌‌های دیگر برنگزیده‌اید؟ هرکس می‌تواند بیاید و خود را با گوساله‌ای و هفت قوچ تقدیس نماید و برای آنانی که خدایان می‌خوانید، کاهن شود.

¹⁰“But as for us, Yahweh is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and we have priests ministering to Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work:

¹⁰ «امّا برای ما، خداوند، خدای ماست و ما او را ترک نکرده‌ایم. کاهنان ما، از خاندان هارون هستند که خداوند را خدمت می‌کنند و لاویان هم وظایف خود را انجام می‌دهند.

¹¹and they burn to Yahweh every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table; and the lampstand of gold with its lamps, to burn every evening: for we keep the instruction of Yahweh our God; but you have forsaken him.

¹¹ ایشان هر بامداد و غروب قربانی سوختنی و بُخور خوشبو تقدیم می‌کنند و نانها را روی میز طلای خالص می‌چینند و از چراغدانهای طلا مواظبت می‌کنند تا چراغهای آنها هر روز در شامگاهان روشن باشند. زیرا ما، فرامین خداوند، خدای خود را نگاه داشته‌ایم، امّا شما او را ترک کرده‌اید.

¹²Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against Yahweh, the God of your fathers; for you shall not prosper.”

¹² ببینید که خداوند با ماست و رهبر ماست و کاهنان او آماده‌اند تا شیپورهای نبرد را علیه شما به صدا در آورند. ای اسرائیلی‌ها علیه خداوند، خدای نیاکان خود نجنگید، زیرا پیروز نخواهید شد.»

¹³But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

¹³ در همین هنگام یربعام گروهی از سپاه خود را فرستاد تا از عقب به ارتش یهودا شبیخون بزنند و بقیّهٔ سپاه از جلو با ایشان روبه‌رو شد.

¹⁴When Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried to Yahweh, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

¹⁴ یهودیان دیدند که محاصره شده‌اند، پس برای کمک از خداوند یاری خواستند و کاهنان شیپورهای خود را نواختند.

¹⁵Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it happened, that God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

¹⁵ یهودیان فریاد بر آوردند و با رهبری ابیا یورش بردند، خدا یربعام و ارتش اسرائیل را شکست داد.

¹⁶The children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

¹⁶ اسرائیلی‌ها از برابر یهودیان گریختند و خدا ایشان را به دست یهودیان داد.

¹⁷Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

¹⁷ ابیا و ارتش او، ایشان را با کشتار عظیمی شکست دادند، پانصد هزار از مردان برگزیدهٔ اسرائیل از پای درآمدند.

¹⁸Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

¹⁸ پس اسرائیلی‌ها در آن زمان سرکوب شدند و مردان یهودا چون به خداوند، خدای نیاکانشان تکیه کردند، پیروز گشتند.

¹⁹Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with its towns, and Jeshanah with its towns, and Ephron with its towns.

¹⁹ ابیا به تعقیب یربعام رفت و شهرهای بیت‌ئیل، یَشانه و اَفرون را با روستاهای آنها تصرّف کرد.

²⁰Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. Yahweh struck him, and he died.

²⁰ در دوران سلطنت ابیا، یربعام قدرت از دست رفتهٔ خود را باز نیافت و سرانجام خداوند او را زد و او مُرد.

²¹But Abijah grew mighty, and took to himself fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons, and sixteen daughters.

²¹ امّا قدرت ابیا روزافزون بود. او چهارده زن، بیست و دو پسر و شانزده دختر داشت. بقیّهٔ وقایع دوران سلطنت ابیا، رفتار و کارهای او همه در کتاب تاریخ عدوی نبی نوشته شده‌اند.
