¹Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

¹ از طرف شمعون پطرس، غلام و رسول عیسی مسیح به آنانی كه از راه نیكی مطلق خدا و نجات‌دهندهٔ ما عیسی مسیح، ایمانی مانند ایمان ما یافته‌اند.

²Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

² درحالی‌که شناخت شما از خدا و عیسی مسیح خداوند زیادتر می‌شود، فیض و آرامش شما نیز افزون گردد.

³seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue;

³ قدرت الهی آنچه را كه ما برای زندگی و خداپرستی نیاز داریم، به ما بخشیده است تا ما بتوانیم کسی‌که ما را خوانده است تا در جلال و عظمتش سهیم شویم، بهتر بشناسیم.

⁴by which he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust.

⁴ بنابراین از وعده‌های بزرگ و گرانبها، بهره‌مند شده و در نتیجه از فسادی كه زاییدهٔ تمایلات جسمانی است، بگریزید و در الوهیّت خدا شریک و سهیم شوید.

⁵Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge;

⁵ به این سبب شما باید سخت بكوشید كه ایمان خود را با جوانمردی، جوانمردی را با معرفت،

⁶and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control patience; and in patience godliness;

⁶ معرفت را با پرهیزكاری، پرهیزكاری را با بردباری، بردباری را با خداشناسی،

⁷and in godliness brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love.

⁷ خداشناسی را با دوستی مسیحایی و دوستی مسیحایی را با محبّت خالص تكمیل كنید.

⁸For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful to the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁸ اگر این صفات در شما باشد و زندگی شما را بیشتر فراگیرد، همیشه در شناسایی خداوند ما عیسی مسیح فعّال و پرثمر خواهید بود.

⁹For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

⁹ ولی کسی‌که فاقد این صفات باشد، چنان كور و نزدیک‌بین می‌شود كه فراموش می‌کند چگونه از گناهان گذشته‌اش پاک شده است.

¹⁰Therefore, brothers, The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.

¹⁰ پس ای دوستان من، هرچه بیشتر بكوشید تا زندگی شما ثابت كند كه شما جزء دعوت شدگان و برگزیدگان خدا هستید، زیرا اگر چنین كنید، هرگز لغزش نخواهید خورد.

¹¹For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

¹¹ و به این ترتیب به شما اجازه داده می‌شود با پیروزی به پادشاهی جاودان خداوند و نجات‌دهندهٔ ما عیسی مسیح وارد شوید.

¹²Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth.

¹² به این جهت من تصمیم گرفتم كه همیشه این چیزها را به‌یاد شما بیاورم. اگرچه شما اینها را می‌دانید و در حقیقتی كه یافته‌اید، ثابت هستید،

¹³I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you;

¹³ ولی من تا زنده هستم صلاح می‌دانم كه با یادآوری و تذكّر، شما را برانگیزانم.

¹⁴knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

¹⁴ من می‌دانم كه بزودی، چنانکه خداوند عیسی مسیح به من نشان داد، این خیمه را ترک خواهم نمود.

¹⁵Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure.

¹⁵ پس نهایت كوشش خود را خواهم كرد تا پس از مرگ من، شما بتوانید در همهٔ اوقات این مطالب را به‌یاد آورید.

¹⁶For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

¹⁶ زیرا وقتی ما دربارهٔ قدرت خداوند ما عیسی مسیح و آمدن او سخن گفتیم به افسانه‌هایی كه با مهارت ساخته شده‌اند متوسّل نشدیم، زیرا ما با چشمان خود بزرگی ملكوتی او را دیده‌ایم.

¹⁷For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 17:5; Mark 9:7; Luke 9:35

¹⁷ وقتی خدای پدر به او افتخار و جلال داد، ما در آنجا حاضر بودیم و آن زمان كه از جلال خداوندی، صدایی به او رسید كه می‌گفت: «این است پسر عزیز من، از او خشنودم.» ما آنجا بودیم.

¹⁸We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

¹⁸ آری، ما وقتی با او بر روی كوه مقدّس بودیم این صدای آسمانی را شنیدیم.

¹⁹We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star arises in your hearts:

¹⁹ این‌همه، كلام انبیا را برای ما بیشتر تصدیق و تأیید می‌کند، پس شما باید با دقّت بیشتر به آن توجّه نمایید، زیرا كلام انبیا مانند چراغی است كه در جایی تاریک می‌درخشد تا سپیده بدمد و ستارهٔ صبح طلوع كرده، دلهای شما را روشن گرداند.

²⁰knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation.

²⁰ امّا بیش از همه‌چیز، این را به‌یاد داشته باشید كه هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند به تنهایی پیشگویی‌های کتاب‌مقدّس را تفسیر كند. زیرا هیچ پیشگویی از روی نقشه و خواستهٔ انسان به وجود نیامده است؛ بلكه مردم تحت تأثیر روح‌القدس، كلام خدا را بیان نمودند.

²¹For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

²¹ زیرا هیچ پیشگویی از روی نقشه و خواستهٔ انسان به وجود نیامده است؛ بلكه مردم تحت تأثیر روح‌القدس، كلام خدا را بیان نمودند.
