¹It happened, at the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.

¹ در فصل بهار، هنگامی‌که پادشاهان به جنگ می‌روند، داوود یوآب را با سپاه اسرائیل به جنگ فرستاد. آنان عمونیان را از بین بردند و شهر ربه را محاصره کردند. امّا داوود در اورشلیم ماند.

²It happened at evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked on the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look on.

² یک روز، بعد از ظهر داوود از بستر برخاست و به پشت‌بام کاخ رفت و به قدم زدن پرداخت. از روی بام نظرش بر زنی افتاد که حمام می‌کرد. آن زن زیبایی فوق‌العاده‌ای داشت.

³David sent and inquired after the woman. One said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

³ داوود کسی را فرستاد تا بداند که آن زن کیست و معلوم شد که او بتشبع، دختر الیعام و زن اوریای حِتّی است.

⁴David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned to her house.

⁴ پس داوود قاصدان را فرستاد و آن زن را به حضورش آوردند و داوود با او همبستر شد. (قبل از اینکه بیاید، مراسم پاکیزگی بعد از عادت ماهانه را انجام داده بود.) سپس به خانهٔ خود رفت.

⁵The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”

⁵ پس از مدّتی پی برد که حامله است. پس قاصدی نزد داوود فرستاد تا حاملگی‌اش را به او خبر بدهد. ‌

⁶David sent to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” Joab sent Uriah to David.

⁶ آنگاه داوود به یوآب پیام فرستاد و از او خواست که اوریا را به نزد او بفرستد.

⁷When Uriah had come to him, David asked of him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.

⁷ هنگامی‌که اوریا آمد، داوود از حال یوآب و سپاه او و وضع جنگ جویا شد.

⁸David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house, and wash your feet.” Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him.

⁸ بعد به اوریا گفت که به خانهٔ خود برود و شست‌وشو کند و هدیه‌ای هم برای او به خانه‌اش فرستاد.

⁹But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and didn’t go down to his house.

⁹ امّا اوریا به خانهٔ خود نرفت و در پیش دروازهٔ کاخ با سایر خادمان پادشاه خوابید.

¹⁰When they had told David, saying, “Uriah didn’t go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Haven’t you come from a journey? Why didn’t you go down to your house?”

¹⁰ چون داوود باخبر شد که اوریا به خانهٔ خود نرفته است، او را به حضور خود خواسته گفت: «تو مدّت زیادی از خانه‌ات دور بودی، پس چرا دیشب پیش زنت به خانه نرفتی؟»

¹¹Uriah said to David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing!”

¹¹ اوریا جواب داد: «آیا رواست که صندوق خداوند، مردم اسرائیل و یهودا، سرورم یوآب و سپاه او بیرون در دشت بخوابند و من به خانهٔ خود بروم و با همسرم بخورم و بنوشم و همخواب شوم. به جان شما سوگند که هرگز این کار را نمی‌کنم.»

¹²David said to Uriah, “Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day, and the next day.

¹² داوود گفت: «امروز هم همین‌ جا بمان و فردا دوباره به اردوگاه برو.» پس اوریا آن روز هم در اورشلیم ماند.

¹³When David had called him, he ate and drink before him; and he made him drunk. At evening, he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but didn’t go down to his house.

¹³ داوود او را برای شام دعوت نمود و او را مست کرد. اوریا آن شب نیز به خانهٔ خود نرفت و با خادمان پادشاه خوابید.

¹⁴It happened in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

¹⁴ فردای آن روز داوود نامه‌ای به یوآب نوشت و به وسیلهٔ اوریا برای او فرستاد.

¹⁵He wrote in the letter, saying, “Send Uriah to the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck, and die.”

¹⁵ متن نامه به این‌ قرار بود: «اوریا را در صف اول یک جنگ سخت بفرست و خودت عقب‌نشینی کن و بگذار تا او کشته شود.»

¹⁶It happened, when Joab kept watch on the city, that he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.

¹⁶ پس یوآب او را در جایی گماشت که نزدیک به شهر محاصره شده بود، یعنی جایی که بهترین جنگجویان دشمن می‌جنگیدند.

¹⁷The men of the city went out, and fought with Joab. Some of the people fell, even of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

¹⁷ آنگاه دشمنان از شهر بیرون آمدند و با یک حمله، بسیاری از سربازان بنی‌اسرائیل را به قتل رساندند که اوریا هم از جملهٔ کشته‌شدگان بود.

¹⁸Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

¹⁸ یوآب اخبار جنگ را برای داوود فرستاد

¹⁹and he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the things concerning the war to the king,

¹⁹ و به نامه‌رسان گفت: «وقتی پیام مرا به پادشاه گفتی

²⁰it shall be that, if the king’s wrath arise, and he asks you, ‘Why did you go so near to the city to fight? Didn’t you know that they would shoot from the wall?

²⁰ اگر دیدی که پادشاه خشمگین شد و گفت: 'چرا آن‌قدر به شهر نزدیک شدید؟ آیا نمی‌دانستید که دشمن از بالای دیوار تیراندازی می‌کنند؟

²¹who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Didn’t a woman cast an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?’ then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.’”

²¹ مگر فراموش کردید که در شهر تاباص یک زن با انداختن سنگ آسیاب دستی از بالای دیوار ابیملک پسر جدعون را کشت؟ پس چرا به نزدیک شهر رفتید؟' آن وقت به او بگو که خادمش، اوریا هم کشته شد.»

²²So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.

²² نامه‌رسان آمد و پیام یوآب و وقایع جنگ را به داوود گزارش داد

²³The messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field, and we were on them even to the entrance of the gate.

²³ و گفت: «دشمن از شهر بیرون آمد و به ما حمله کرد. ما آنها را دوباره به دروازهٔ شهر راندیم.

²⁴The shooters shot at your servants from off the wall; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.”

²⁴ آنگاه تیراندازان دشمن از بالای دیوار شهر بر ما تیراندازی کردند و بعضی از افراد ما را کشتند و اوریا هم کشته شد.»

²⁵Then David said to the messenger, “Thus you shall tell Joab, ‘Don’t let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it.’ Encourage him.”

²⁵ داوود به قاصد گفت: «برو به یوآب بگو که از این بابت پریشان نباشد. هرکسی که به دَم شمشیر آمد کشته می‌شود. پس در آینده سخت‌تر بجنگ و شهر را ویران کن. این را بگو تا خاطر یوآب جمع شود.»

²⁶When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she made lamentation for her husband.

²⁶ چون زن اوریا شنید که شوهرش کشته شده است، سوگوار شد. وقتی دوران سوگواری به پایان رسید، داوود او را به خانهٔ خود آورد و با او عروسی کرد. آن زن برایش پسری به دنیا آورد، امّا این کار در نظر خداوند ناپسند آمد.

²⁷When the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Yahweh.

²⁷ وقتی دوران سوگواری به پایان رسید، داوود او را به خانهٔ خود آورد و با او عروسی کرد. آن زن برایش پسری به دنیا آورد، امّا این کار در نظر خداوند ناپسند آمد.
