¹Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands, “Bring us drinks!”

¹ ای زنهای سامره که مانند گاوهای منطقهٔ باشان چاق شده‌اید، بر مردم بینوا ظلم می‌کنید، اشخاص فقیر و محتاج را پایمال می‌نمایید و هریک از شما به شوهرانتان می‌گویید: «شراب بیاور تا بنوشم.»

²The Lord Yahweh has sworn by his holiness that behold, “The days shall come on you that they will take you away with hooks, and the last of you with fish hooks.

² خداوند به ذات اقدس خود قسم خورده و فرموده است: «روزی می‌رسد که دشمنان قلّاب به دهان شما خواهند انداخت همهٔ شما را مانند ماهی می‌گیرند و با خود می‌برند.

³You will go out at the breaks in the wall, everyone straight before her; and you will cast yourselves into Harmon,” says Yahweh.

³ هریک از شما را از شکافهای دیوار بیرونی خواهند انداخت.»

⁴“Go to Bethel, and sin; to Gilgal, and sin more. Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days,

⁴ خداوند قادر متعال می‌فرماید: «ای قوم اسرائیل، به شهر بیت‌ئیل بروید و گناه کنید و به شهر جلجال بروید تا بیشتر گناه ورزید. هر روز صبح قربانی بیاورید و هر سه روز ده‌یک بدهید.

⁵offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened, and proclaim free will offerings and brag about them: for this pleases you, you children of Israel,” says the Lord Yahweh.

⁵ قربانی‌های شکرگزاری بگذرانید و در همه‌جا با غرور اعلام کنید که برای خداوند قربانی تقدیم کرده‌اید، زیرا این همان کاری است که شما دوست ‌دارید.

⁶“I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.

⁶ «من قحطی را به تمام شهرهای شما آوردم، امّا توبه نکردید و به سوی من بازنگشتید.

⁷“I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One place was rained on, and the piece where it didn’t rain withered.

⁷ سه ماه پیش از فصل درو باران را قطع کردم. در یک شهر باران فرستادم و در شهر دیگر از آن جلوگیری نمودم. بر یک مزرعه باران بارید و مزرعهٔ دیگر از بی‌آبی خشک شد.

⁸So two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water, and were not satisfied: yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.

⁸ مردم چند شهر برای نوشیدن یک جرعه آب، با تن خسته و ناتوان به شهری دیگر می‌رفتند، امّا آب کافی پیدا نمی‌کردند. با این‌همه، شما به سوی من بازنگشتید.

⁹“I struck you with blight and mildew many times in your gardens and your vineyards; and your fig trees and your olive trees have the swarming locust devoured: yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.

⁹ «با باد سموم و آفت، محصول باغها و تاکستانهای شما را از بین بردم. درختان انجیر و زیتون شما خوراک ملخ شدند، بازهم شما به سوی من بازگشت نکردید.

¹⁰“I sent plagues among you like I did Egypt. I have slain your young men with the sword, and have carried away your horses; and I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camp, yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.

¹⁰ «همان بلاهایی را که بر سر مردم مصر آوردم بر سر شما نیز آوردم. جوانان شما را با شمشیر کشتم، اسبهایتان ربوده شدند. بینی شما از بوی بد اجساد اردوگاههایتان پُر شد. با این حال، شما به سوی من بازنگشتید.

¹¹“I have overthrown some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire; yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.

¹¹ «بعضی از شما را مانند مردم سدوم و غموره نابود ساختم. کسانی هم که زنده ماندند، مانند چوب سوخته‌ای بودند که از بین آتش بیرون کشیده شده باشند. با همهٔ اینها، بازهم شما به سوی من بازنگشتید.

¹²“Therefore thus will I do to you, Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel.

¹² بنابراین من شما را مجازات خواهم کرد. پس ای قوم اسرائیل، برای داوری و مجازات در برابر خدای خود آماده شوید. «زیرا من هستم که کوهها را ساختم، باد را به وجود آوردم، از افکار پنهانی انسان آگاه هستم، روز را به شب تبدیل می‌کنم و بر بلندترین کوهها قدم می‌زنم. نام من خداوند، خدای متعال است.»

¹³For, behold, he who forms the mountains, and creates the wind, and declares to man what is his thought; who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the high places of the earth: Yahweh, the God of Armies, is his name.”

¹³ «زیرا من هستم که کوهها را ساختم، باد را به وجود آوردم، از افکار پنهانی انسان آگاه هستم، روز را به شب تبدیل می‌کنم و بر بلندترین کوهها قدم می‌زنم. نام من خداوند، خدای متعال است.»
