¹Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!

¹ وای بر شما که در صهیون زندگی راحتی دارید و در سامره در امنیّت زندگی می‌کنید و به این می‌بالید که رهبر قوم بزرگی هستید و مردم برای کمک نزد شما می‌آیند.

²Go to Calneh, and see; and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border?

² به شهر کلنه بروید، از شهر بزرگ حمات دیدن کنید و وضع شهر جت را در سرزمین فلسطین بررسی نمایید و ببینید، آیا آنها از پادشاهی یهودا و اسرائیل بهتر هستند و یا سرزمینشان بزرگتر از کشور شماست؟

³Those who put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

³ شما فکر روز مصیبتی را که بر سر شما می‌آید از خود دور می‌کنید، امّا با کردار زشتتان آن روز بد را به خود نزدیکتر می‌سازید.

⁴Who lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves on their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

⁴ وای بر شما که بر تختهای عاج دراز می‌کشید، در بسترهای نرم می‌خوابید و بهترین گوشت برّه و لذیذترین گوشت گوسالهٔ گلّه را می‌خورید.

⁵who strum on the strings of a harp; who invent for themselves instruments of music, like David;

⁵ شما دوست دارید با نواختن چنگ همچون داوود سرود بسرایید.

⁶who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best oils; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁶ جامهای شراب را سر می‌کشید و با بهترین عطرها خود را خوشبو می‌سازید، ولی به‌خاطر مصیبت قوم اسرائیل غمگین نمی‌شوید.

⁷Therefore they will now go captive with the first who go captive; and the feasting and lounging will end.

⁷ بنابراین شما زودتر از دیگران به اسارت می‌روید و روزهای عیش و خوشگذرانی شما به پایان می‌رسد.

⁸“The Lord Yahweh has sworn by himself,” says Yahweh, the God of Armies: “I abhor the pride of Jacob, and detest his fortresses. Therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it.

⁸ خداوند، خدای متعال به ذات خود قسم خورده است و می‌فرماید: «من از غرور قوم اسرائیل بیزار هستم و از قصرهای با شکوه آنها نفرت دارم. پس من پایتخت آن را با همه‌چیزهایی که در آن است، به دشمنان تسلیم می‌کنم.»

⁹It will happen, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

⁹ اگر ده نفر در یک خانه باقی‌ مانده باشند، آنها هم کشته خواهند شد.

¹⁰“When a man’s relative carries him, even he who burns him, to bring bodies out of the house, and asks him who is in the innermost parts of the house, ‘Is there yet any with you?’ And he says, ‘No;’ then he will say, ‘Hush! Indeed we must not mention the name of Yahweh.’

¹⁰ وقتی خویشاوند شخص مُرده برای دفن جنازهٔ او بیاید، از آن کسی‌که هنوز زنده است می‌پرسد: «آیا کس دیگری باقیمانده است؟» او جواب می‌دهد: «نه.» آن خویشاوند می‌گوید: «خاموش باش و نام خداوند را بر زبان نیاور!»

¹¹“For, behold, Yahweh commands, and the great house will be smashed to pieces, and the little house into bits.

¹¹ وقتی خداوند امر فرماید، خانه‌های بزرگ و کوچک با خاک یکسان می‌شوند.

¹²Do horses run on the rocky crags? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness;

¹² آیا اسبها بر صخره‌ها می‌دوند، یا گاو دریا را شخم می‌زند؟ امّا شما عدالت را به کام مردم مانند زهر تلخ ساخته و حق را به باطل تبدیل کرده‌اید.

¹³you who rejoice in a thing of nothing, who say, ‘Haven’t we taken for ourselves horns by our own strength?’

¹³ شما افتخار می‌کنید که شهر لودیبار را تسخیر کرده‌اید و می‌گویید: «ما قدرت آن را داریم که کارنائیم را هم تسخیر کنیم.» امّا خداوند، خدای متعال می‌فرماید: «ای قوم اسرائیل، من سپاه دشمن را می‌فرستم تا کشور شما را تصرّف کند و مردم شما را از گذرگاه حمات تا وادی عربه به تنگ آوردند.»

¹⁴For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, house of Israel,” says Yahweh, the God of Armies; “and they will afflict you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.”

¹⁴ امّا خداوند، خدای متعال می‌فرماید: «ای قوم اسرائیل، من سپاه دشمن را می‌فرستم تا کشور شما را تصرّف کند و مردم شما را از گذرگاه حمات تا وادی عربه به تنگ آوردند.»
