¹These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

¹ این است متن پیمانی که خداوند در سرزمین موآب به وسیلهٔ موسی با قوم اسرائیل بست. این پیمان غیراز پیمانی است که در کوه سینا بسته بود.

²Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, You have seen all that Yahweh did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;

² موسی تمام قوم اسرائیل را گرد هم آورد و به آنها گفت: «شما با چشمان خود دیدید که خداوند در سرزمین مصر با فرعون و خدمتکارانش و تمام سرزمینش چه کرد.

³the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders:

³ آزمایشهای بزرگی که چشمان شما دید، نشانه‌ها و شگفتی‌های عظیم را در آن سرزمین به شما نشان داد.

⁴but Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.

⁴ ولی تا به امروز خداوند دلی که بفهمد و چشمی که ببیند و گوشی که بشنود را به شما نداده است.

⁵I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes have not grown old on you, and your shoes have not grown old on your feet.

⁵ مدّت چهل سال خداوند شما را در بیابان هدایت کرد. لباسها و کفشهای شما کهنه و پاره نشدند.

⁶You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink; that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.

⁶ شما نه نان برای خوردن و نه شراب و نوشیدنی تخمیرشده برای نوشیدن داشتید، امّا خداوند احتیاجات شما را برآورده کرد تا به شما یاد بدهد که او خدای شماست.

⁷When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us to battle, and we struck them:

⁷ وقتی به اینجا آمدید، سیحون، پادشاه حشبون و عوج، پادشاه باشان به جنگ ما آمدند، ولی ما آنها را شکست دادیم.

⁸and we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.

⁸ سرزمین ایشان را تصرّف کردیم و به طایفه‌های رئوبین، جاد و نصف طایفه منسی دادیم.

⁹Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.

⁹ پس از هر کلمهٔ این پیمان به دقّت پیروی نمایید تا در هر کاری که می‌کنید موفّق شوید.

¹⁰You stand this day all of you before Yahweh your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,

¹⁰ «امروز شما رهبران، ریش سفیدان، افسران و همهٔ مردان اسرائیل،

¹¹your little ones, your wives, and your foreigner who is in the midst of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water;

¹¹ زنان، بچّه‌ها، بیگانگانی که با شما زندگی می‌کنند، کسانی‌که هیزم می‌شکنند و کسانی‌که آب می‌آورند، در حضور خداوند خدایتان ایستاده‌اید

¹²that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath, which Yahweh your God makes with you this day;

¹² تا با خداوند خدایتان پیمان ببندید و مسئولیّت انجام آن را بپذیرید

¹³that he may establish you this day to himself for a people, and that he may be to you a God, as he spoke to you, and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

¹³ تا آنکه امروز خداوند همان‌طور که به شما و به نیاکانتان، یعنی ابراهیم، اسحاق و یعقوب وعده داد، شما را به عنوان قوم خود بپذیرد و او خدای شما باشد.

¹⁴Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,

¹⁴ شما تنها کسانی نیستید که خداوند با شما پیمانی با مسئولیّت می‌بندد. او با همهٔ ما که امروز در حضورش ایستاده‌ایم و همچنین فرزندان ما که هنوز به دنیا نیامده‌اند، نیز پیمان می‌بندد.

¹⁵but with him who stands here with us this day before Yahweh our God, and also with him who is not here with us this day

¹⁵ «به یاد دارید که در سرزمین مصر چگونه زندگی می‌کردیم و چطور از بین اقوام مختلف گذشتیم.

¹⁶(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed;

¹⁶ شما بُتهای نفرت‌انگیز ایشان را که از چوب و سنگ و نقره و طلا ساخته شده بودند، دیدید.

¹⁷and you have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them);

¹⁷ مطمئن باشید که امروز در میان شما هیچ مرد، زن، خانواده یا طایفه‌ای، از خداوند خدایمان روی برنگرداند و خدایان ملّتهای دیگر را پرستش نکنند. این مانند ریشه‌ای است که رشد می‌کند و گیاهی تلخ و زهرآگین می‌شود.

¹⁸lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood;

¹⁸ مطمئن باشید، امروز کسی در میان شما نباشد که این هشدارها را بشنود و خود را قانع کند به اینکه حتّی اگر به راههای خود برود، ایمن خواهد بود. زیرا او باعث خواهد شد که تر و خشک باهم بسوزند.

¹⁹and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.”

¹⁹ خداوند چنین مردی را نخواهد بخشید، در عوض، آتش سوزندهٔ خشم خداوند، علیه او شعله خواهد کشید و تمام لعنت‌هایی که در این کتاب نوشته شده است تا هنگامی‌که خداوند او را نابود سازد، بر او فرود خواهند آمد.

²⁰Yahweh will not pardon him, but then the anger of Yahweh and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky.

²⁰ خداوند او را از همهٔ طایفه‌های اسرائیل جدا خواهد کرد و بلاها و لعنت‌هایی را که در این کتاب نوشته شده است، بر سر او خواهد آورد.

²¹Yahweh will set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.

²¹ «نسلهای آینده و فرزندان شما و بیگانگانی که از سرزمین‌های دوردست بیایند و از سرزمین شما عبور کنند، بلاها و بیماریهایی را که خداوند به این سرزمین فرستاده است، خواهند دید.

²²The generation to come, your children who shall rise up after you, and the foreigner who shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick;

²² کشتزارها بی‌حاصل و با گوگرد و نمک پوشیده خواهند شد، هیچ چیز در آنها کاشته نخواهد شد و حتّی علف نیز در آنجا نخواهد رویید. سرزمین شما مانند شهرهای سدوم و غموره و اَدُمَه و صبوئیم خواهد بود که خداوند با آتش خشم خود آنها را نابود کرد.

²³and that the whole land of it is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

²³ آنگاه جهانیان خواهند پرسید: 'چرا خداوند با سرزمین ایشان چنین کرده است؟ دلیل خشم عظیم او چه بوده است؟'

²⁴even all the nations shall say, “Why has Yahweh done thus to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”

²⁴ سپس پاسخ خواهند داد: 'زیرا ایشان پیمانی را که هنگام خروج از مصر، خداوند خدای نیاکانشان با ایشان بست، شکسته‌اند.

²⁵Then men shall say, “Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,

²⁵ ایشان خدایان دیگری را که نمی‌شناختند، خدمت و پرستش کرده‌اند، خدایانی که خداوند پرستش آنها را منع کرده بود.

²⁶and went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know, and that he had not given to them:

²⁶ بنابراین آتش خشم خداوند برضد آنها افروخته شد و آنها را به تمام لعنت‌هایی که در این کتاب نوشته شده‌اند، گرفتار کرد.

²⁷therefore the anger of Yahweh was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curse that is written in this book;

²⁷ خداوند با قهر و غضب و خشم شدید خود، آنها را از این سرزمین ریشه کن ساخت و به سرزمین دیگری راند که تاکنون در آنجا به سر می‌برند.' «اسرار به خداوند خدای ما تعلّق دارد، امّا آنچه بر ما آشکار گشته است، برای همیشه به ما و فرزندانمان تعلّق دارد تا از همهٔ آنها پیروی کنیم.

²⁸and Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.”

²⁸ «اسرار به خداوند خدای ما تعلّق دارد، امّا آنچه بر ما آشکار گشته است، برای همیشه به ما و فرزندانمان تعلّق دارد تا از همهٔ آنها پیروی کنیم.

²⁹The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
