1When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty. Walk before me, and be blameless.

وقتی اَبرام نود و نه ساله بود، خداوند بر او ظاهر شد و فرمود: «من خدای قادر مطلق هستم. از من اطاعت كن و همیشه آنچه را كه درست است انجام بده.
2I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.”
2
من با تو پیمان میبندم و نسلهای بسیاری به تو میدهم.»
3Abram fell on his face. God talked with him, saying,

اَبرام روی زمین افتاد و صورت خود را به زمین گذاشت. خدا فرمود:
4“As for me, behold, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations.
4
«من این پیمان را با تو میبندم: من به تو قول میدهم كه تو پدر قومهای زیادی خواهی شد.
5Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

اسم تو بعد از این 'اَبرام' نخواهد بود بلكه 'ابراهیم'، زیرا من تو را پدر قومهایی بسیار خواهم نمود.
6I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you.

من به تو فرزندان بسیار میدهم و بعضی از آنها پادشاه خواهند شد. نسل تو زیاد خواهد شد و هریک از آنها برای خود قومی خواهند گردید.
7I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your seed after you.

«من پیمان خود را با تو و فرزندان تو در نسلهای آینده به صورت یک پیمان ابدی حفظ خواهم كرد. من خدای تو و خدای فرزندان تو خواهم بود.
8I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land where you are traveling, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. I will be their God.”

من این زمین را كه اكنون در آن بیگانه هستی به تو و به فرزندان تو خواهم داد. تمام سرزمین کنعان برای همیشه متعلّق به نسل تو خواهد شد و من خدای ایشان خواهم بود.»
9God said to Abraham, “As for you, you will keep my covenant, you and your seed after you throughout their generations.

خداوند به ابراهیم فرمود: «تو هم باید قول بدهی كه هم تو، و هم فرزندان تو در نسلهای آینده، این پیمان را حفظ كنید.
10This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you. Every male among you shall be circumcised.
10
تو و فرزندان تو، همه باید موافقت كنید كه هر مردی در میان شما ختنه شود.
11You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a token of the covenant between me and you.
11
از حالا تو باید هر پسری را در روز هشتم تولّدش ختنه كنی.
12He who is eight days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your seed.
12
این امر شامل غلامانی كه در خانهٔ تو متولّد میشوند و یا غلامانی كه از بیگانگان میخری نیز هست. این علامت نشان خواهد داد كه بین من و تو پیمانی وجود دارد.
13He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

همه باید ختنه شوند و این یک نشانهٔ جسمانی است كه نشان میدهد پیمان من با شما پیمان جاودانی است.
14The uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant.”

هر فرزند ذكوری كه ختنه نشود دیگر عضو قوم من نخواهد بود، زیرا او پیمان مرا نگاه نداشته است.»
15God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah.

خدا به ابراهیم فرمود: «بعد از این نباید زن خود را 'سارای' صدا كنی از این به بعد اسم او 'سارا' خواهد بود.
16I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her.”

من او را بركت میدهم و به وسیلهٔ او پسری به تو خواهم داد. من او را بركت خواهم داد و او مادر قومهای بسیار خواهد شد و در میان فرزندان او بعضی به پادشاهی خواهند رسید.»
17Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, “Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?”

ابراهیم به روی زمین افتاد و صورت خود را بر زمین گذاشت. ولی شروع كرد به خندیدن و با خود فكر كرد كه آیا مردی كه صد سال عمر دارد، میتواند بچّهدار شود؟ آیا سارا میتواند در نود سالگی بچّهدار شود؟
18Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

پس از خدا پرسید: «چرا نمیگذاری اسماعیل وارث من شود؟»
19God said, “No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac. Isaac means “he laughs.” I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him.

خدا فرمود: «نه، زن تو سارا پسری برای تو خواهد زایید. اسم او را اسحاق خواهی گذاشت. من پیمان خود را با او برای همیشه حفظ خواهم كرد. این یک پیمان جاودانی است.
20As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

من شنیدم كه تو دربارهٔ اسماعیل درخواست نمودی، بنابراین من او را بركت میدهم و به او فرزندان بسیار و نسلهای زیاد خواهم داد. او پدر دوازده امیر خواهد بود. من ملّت بزرگی از نسل او به وجود خواهم آورد.
21But my covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”
21
امّا پیمان خود را با پسر تو اسحاق حفظ خواهم كرد. او سال دیگر در همین وقت توسط سارا به دنیا خواهد آمد.»
22When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.
22
وقتی خدا گفتوگوی خود را با ابراهیم تمام كرد، از نزد او رفت.
23Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as God had said to him.

ابراهیم فرمان خدا را اطاعت كرد و در همان روز خودش و پسرش اسماعیل و تمام افراد ذكوری را كه در خانهاش بودند، ختنه كرد. او همچنین تمام غلامانی را كه در خانهٔ او به دنیا آمده بودند و یا خریده بود، ختنه كرد.
24Abraham was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

ابراهیم هنگامی كه ختنه شد نود و نه سال داشت.
25Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
25
پسر او اسماعیل سیزده ساله بود.
26In the same day both Abraham and Ishmael, his son, were circumcised.

آنها هر دو با تمام غلامان ابراهیم،
در یک روز ختنه شدند.
27All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money of a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

در یک روز ختنه شدند.
