1Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?’”

مار كه از تمام حیواناتی كه خداوند ساخته بود حیلهگرتر بود، از زن پرسید: «آیا واقعاً خدا به شما گفته است که از هیچیک از میوههای درختهای باغ نخورید؟»
2The woman said to the serpent, “Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat,

زن جواب داد: «ما اجازه داریم از میوهٔ تمام درختهای باغ بخوریم
3but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

به غیراز میوهٔ درختی كه در وسط باغ است. خدا به ما گفته است که از میوهٔ آن درخت نخورید و حتّی آن را لمس نكنید مبادا بمیرید.»
4The serpent said to the woman, “You won’t surely die,

مار جواب داد: «این درست نیست. شما نخواهید مرد.
5for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

خدا این را گفت زیرا میداند وقتی از آن بخورید شما هم مثل او خواهید شد و خواهید دانست چه چیز خوب و چه چیز بد است.»
6When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate.

زن نگاه كرد و دید آن درخت بسیار زیبا و میوهٔ آن برای خوردن خوب است. همچنین فكر كرد چقدر خوب است كه دانا بشود. بنابراین از میوهٔ آن درخت كند و خورد. همچنین به شوهر خود نیز داد و او هم خورد.
7The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

همینكه آن را خوردند به آنها دانشی داده شد و فهمیدند كه برهنه هستند. پس برگهای درخت انجیر را به هم دوخته خود را با آن پوشاندند.
8They heard the voice of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.

عصر آن روز شنیدند خداوند در باغ راه میرود. پس خود را پشت درختان پنهان كردند.
9Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”

امّا خداوند آدم را صدا كرد و فرمود: «كجا هستی؟»
10The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

آدم جواب داد: «چون صدای تو را در باغ شنیدم ترسیدم و پنهان شدم زیرا برهنه هستم.»
11God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

خدا پرسید: «چه كسی به تو گفت برهنه هستی؟ آیا از میوهٔ درختی كه به تو گفتم نباید از آن بخوری خوردی؟»
12The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”

آدم گفت: «این زنی كه تو اینجا نزد من گذاشتی آن میوه را به من داد و من خوردم.»
13Yahweh God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

خداوند از زن پرسید: «چرا اینكار را كردی؟» زن جواب داد: «مار مرا فریب داد كه از آن خوردم.»
14Yahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. On your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.

سپس خداوند به مار فرمود: «چون اینكار را كردی از همهٔ حیوانات ملعونتر هستی. بر روی شكمت راه خواهی رفت و در تمام مدّت عمرت خاک خواهی خورد.
15I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”

در بین تو و زن كینه میگذارم. نسل او و نسل تو همیشه دشمن هم خواهند بود. او سر تو را خواهد كوبید و تو پاشنهٔ او را خواهی گزید.»
16To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you will bear children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

و به زن فرمود: «درد و زحمت تو را در ایّام حاملگی و در وقت زاییدن بسیار زیاد میكنم. اشتیاق تو به شوهرت خواهد بود و او بر تو تسلّط خواهد داشت.»
17To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.

و به آدم فرمود: «تو به حرف زنت گوش دادی و میوهای را كه به تو گفته بودم نخوری، خوردی. بهخاطر اینكار، زمین لعنت شد و تو باید در تمام مدّت زندگی با سختی كار كنی تا از زمین خوراک به دست بیاوری.
18It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.

زمین خار و علفهای هرزه خواهد رویانید و تو گیاهان صحرا را خواهی خورد.
19By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

با زحمت و عرق پیشانی از زمین خوراک به دست خواهی آورد تا روزی كه به خاک بازگردی، خاكی كه از آن به وجود آمدی. تو از خاک هستی و دوباره خاک خواهی شد.»
20The man called his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

آدم اسم زن خود را حوا گذاشت چون او مادر تمام انسانهاست.
21Yahweh God made coats of skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.
21
خداوند از پوست حیوانات برای آدم و زنش لباس تهیّه كرد و به آنها پوشانید.
22Yahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever...”
22
پس خداوند فرمود: «حال آدم مثل ما شده و میداند چه چیز خوب و چه چیز بد است. مبادا از درخت حیات نیز بخورد و برای همیشه زنده بماند.»
23Therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
23
بنابراین خداوند او را از باغ عدن بیرون كرد تا در روی زمین كه از آن به وجود آمده بود به كار زراعت مشغول شود.
خداوند، آدم را از باغ عدن بیرون كرد و فرشتگان نگهبانی در طرف شرق باغ عدن گذاشت و شمشیر آتشینی كه به هر طرف میچرخید در آنجا قرار داد تا كسی نتواند به درخت حیات نزدیک شود.
24So he drove out the man; and he placed Cherubs at the east of the garden of Eden, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

خداوند، آدم را از باغ عدن بیرون كرد و فرشتگان نگهبانی در طرف شرق باغ عدن گذاشت و شمشیر آتشینی كه به هر طرف میچرخید در آنجا قرار داد تا كسی نتواند به درخت حیات نزدیک شود.
