1God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

خدا به یعقوب فرمود: «برخیز و به بیتئیل برو و در آنجا ساكن شو. در آنجا قربانگاهی برای من بساز، برای خدایی كه وقتی از دست برادرت عیسو فرار میكردی، بر تو ظاهر شد.»
2Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments.

پس یعقوب به خانواده و تمام كسانی كه با او بودند، گفت: «تمام بُتهایی را كه در میان شما هست دور بریزید. خود را پاک كنید و لباس نو بپوشید.
3Let us arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.”

ما از اینجا به بیتئیل كوچ میكنیم. من در آنجا برای خدایی كه هرجا رفتم با من بود و در روز تنگی مرا كمک فرمود، قربانگاهی بنا خواهم كرد.»
4They gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

پس آنها تمام بُتهای را كه داشتند، همچنین تمام گوشوارههایی را كه در گوششان بود، به یعقوب دادند. یعقوب آنها را در زیر درخت بلوطی در شكیم پنهان كرد.
5They traveled, and a terror of God was on the cities that were around them, and they didn’t pursue the sons of Jacob.

وقتی یعقوب و پسرانش حركت كردند، ترس خداوند مردم شهرهای اطراف را فراگرفت. به اینجهت آنها پسران یعقوب را تعقیب نكردند.
6So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.

یعقوب با تمام همراهانش به لوز در سرزمین كنعان كه امروز بیتئیل نامیده میشود آمدند.
7He built an altar there, and called the place El Beth El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

او در آنجا قربانگاهی بنا كرد و اسم آنجا را قربانگاه خدای بیتئیل گذاشت. زیرا هنگامی كه او از دست برادرش فرار میكرد، خدا خودش را در آنجا بر او ظاهر كرد.
8Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; and its name was called Allon Bacuth.

دبوره، دایه ربكا مرد. او را در زیر درخت بلوطی در جنوب بیتئیل دفن كردند. به همین جهت اسم آن را «بلوطِ گریان» گذاشتند.
9God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.

وقتی یعقوب از بینالنهرین برگشت، خدا دوباره بر او ظاهر شد و او را بركت داد.
10God said to him, “Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be Jacob any more, but your name will be Israel.” He named him Israel.

خدا به او فرمود: «اسم تو یعقوب است، امّا بعد از این اسم تو اسرائیل خواهد بود.»
11God said to him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your body.

خدا به او فرمود: «من خدای قادر مطلق هستم. بارور و کثیر شو. اقوام و ملل از نسل تو به وجود آیند و تو جدّ پادشاهان خواهی شد.
12The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and to your seed after you will I give the land.”

من سرزمینی را كه به ابراهیم و اسحاق دادم به تو و بعد از تو به فرزندان تو خواهم داد.»
13God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.

سپس خدا از نزد او بالا رفت.
14Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.

یعقوب در همانجایی كه خدا با او گفتوگو كرد یک ستون سنگی برپا كرد و هدیهٔ نوشیدنی و روغن زیتون روی آن ریخت و آن را تقدیس نمود.
15Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him “Bethel.”
15
او اسم آنجا را بیتئیل گذاشت. زیرا در آنجا خدا با او صحبت كرده بود.
16They traveled from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor.

یعقوب و خانوادهاش بیتئیل را ترک كردند. هنوز تا افراته فاصلهٔ زیادی داشتند كه موقع وضع حمل راحیل رسید. زاییدن او بسیار مشكل بود.
17When she was in hard labor, the midwife said to her, “Don’t be afraid, for now you will have another son.”

هنگامی كه درد زایمان او خیلی شدید شده بود، قابله به او گفت: «نترس، این هم پسر است.»
18It happened, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Benoni, “Benoni” means “son of my trouble.” but his father named him Benjamin. “Benjamin” means “son of my right hand.”

ولی او در حال مرگ بود و در همان حال اسم پسرش را بناونی (یعنی پسر غصهٔ من) گذاشت ولی پدرش او را بنیامین (یعنی پسر دست راست من) نامید.
19Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath (the same is Bethlehem).

راحیل مرد و او را در كنار راه افراته كه حالا بیتلحم نامیده میشود، دفن كردند.
20Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.

یعقوب بر سر قبر او یک ستون سنگی بنا كرد كه هنوز هم آن ستون بر روی قبر راحیل وجود دارد.
21Israel traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.

یعقوب از آنجا كوچ كرد و اردوگاه خود را در طرف دیگر بُرج عیدر نصب كرد.
22It happened, while Israel lived in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

وقتی یعقوب در آنجا سكونت داشت، رئوبین با بلهه یكی از صیغههای پدر خود همخواب شد و یعقوب این موضوع را فهمید.
پسران یعقوب دوازده نفر بودند.
23The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

پسران لیه عبارت بودند از: رئوبین پسر بزرگ یعقوب، شمعون، لاوی، یهودا، یساكار و زبولون.
24The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

یوسف و بنیامین پسران راحیل بودند.
25The sons of Bilhah (Rachel’s handmaid): Dan and Naphtali.

دان و نفتالی پسران بلهه كنیز راحیل بودند.
26The sons of Zilpah (Leah’s handmaid): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

جاد و اشیر پسران زلفه، كنیز لیه بودند. این پسران در بینالنهرین متولّد شدند.
27Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba (which is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.

یعقوب به ممری نزدیک حبرون-جاییکه ابراهیم و اسحاق زندگی میكردند- به دیدن پدرش اسحاق رفت.
28The days of Isaac were one hundred eighty years.

اسحاق صد و هشتاد سال داشت.
او در حالی كه كاملاً پیر شده بود، وفات یافت. پسرانش عیسو و یعقوب او را دفن كردند.
29Isaac gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esau and Jacob, his sons, buried him.
