1It happened at that time, that Judah went down from his brothers, and visited a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

در همان زمان یهودا برادران خود را ترک كرد و نزد شخصی به نام حیره كه اهل عدُلام بود ساكن شد.
2Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua. He took her, and went in to her.

یهودا در آنجا دختر كنعانی دید كه اسم پدرش شوعه بود. او با آن دختر ازدواج كرد.
3She conceived, and bore a son; and he named him Er.

او آبستن شده پسری زایید و یهودا اسم او را عیر گذاشت.
4She conceived again, and bore a son; and she named him Onan.

او دوباره آبستن شد و پسری زایید كه مادرش اسمش را اونان گذاشت.
5She yet again bore a son, and named him Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bore him.

دوباره آبستن شد و پسر دیگری زایید. اسم این پسر را شیله گذاشت. در موقع تولّد این پسر یهودا در اكزیب بود.
6Judah took a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.

یهودا برای پسر اولش عیر زنی گرفت كه اسمش تامار بود.
7Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Yahweh. Yahweh killed him.

كارهای عیر، شرارتآمیز بود و خداوند از او ناراضی بود و او را كشت.
8Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her, and raise up seed to your brother.”

پس یهودا به برادر عیر، اونان گفت: «برو و حق برادر شوهری را به جا بیاور و با زن برادرت همخواب شو تا به این وسیله نسلی برای برادرت به وجود آید.»
9Onan knew that the seed wouldn’t be his; and it happened, when he went in to his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.

امّا اونان چون میدانست كه فرزندان تامار به او تعلّق نخواهند داشت، پس هر وقت با او همخواب میشد منیاش را بر زمین میریخت تا نسلی برای برادرش به وجود نیاید.
10The thing which he did was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and he killed him also.

اینكار، خداوند را ناراضی كرد و خداوند او را هم كشت.
11Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, “Remain a widow in your father’s house, until Shelah, my son, is grown up”; for he said, “Lest he also die, like his brothers.” Tamar went and lived in her father’s house.

پس یهودا به عروسش تامار گفت: «تو به خانهٔ پدرت برگرد و همینطور بیوه بمان تا پسرم شیله بزرگ شود.» یهودا این را گفت چون میترسید مبادا شیله هم مثل برادرش بمیرد. پس تامار به خانهٔ پدرش رفت.
12After many days, Shua’s daughter, the wife of Judah, died. Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheepshearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah, the Adullamite.

بعد از مدّتی زن یهودا مرد. بعد از اینکه روزهای عزاداری تمام شد، یهودا با دوستش حیرهٔ عدُلامی به تمنه رفت، همان جایی كه پشم گوسفندانش را میچیدند.
13It was told Tamar, saying, “Behold, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.”

یک نفر به تامار خبر داد كه پدر شوهرش برای چیدن پشم گوسفندانش به تمنه میرود.
14She took off of her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gate of Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she wasn’t given to him as a wife.

چون تامار دید كه شیله بزرگ شده و هنوز با او ازدواج نكرده است، لباس بیوهزنیاش را عوض كرد و روبندی به صورت خود زد و با چادری خود را پوشانید. سپس بر دروازهٔ روستای عناییم كه در سر راه تمنه است، نشست.
15When Judah saw her, he thought that she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face.

وقتی یهودا او را دید خیال كرد فاحشه است. چون او صورت خود را پوشانده بود.
16He turned to her by the way, and said, “Please come, let me come in to you,” for he didn’t know that she was his daughter-in-law. She said, “What will you give me, that you may come in to me?”

پس پیش او رفت و خواست با او همخواب شود. یهودا نمیدانست كه آن زن عروس اوست.
تامار پرسید: «چقدر میدهی تا با من همخواب شوی؟»
17He said, “I will send you a young goat from the flock.” She said, “Will you give me a pledge, until you send it?”

یهودا جواب داد: «یک بُزغاله از گلّهام برایت میفرستم.»
او گفت: «تا وقتی كه آن را میفرستی آیا گرویی پیش من میگذاری؟»
18He said, “What pledge will I give you?” She said, “Your signet and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” He gave them to her, and came in to her, and she conceived by him.

یهودا گفت: «چه چیزی برای گرو به تو بدهم؟»
او گفت: «مُهر خود را با بند آن و عصایت را پیش من گرو بگذار.» یهودا آنها را به او داد و با او همخواب شد و آن زن آبستن گردید.
19She arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

تامار به خانه رفت و چادر و روبندهاش را برداشت و دوباره لباس بیوهزنیاش را پوشید.
20Judah sent the young goat by the hand of his friend, the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman’s hand, but he didn’t find her.

یهودا، دوستش حیره را فرستاد تا بُزغاله را ببرد و گروییها را از آن زن پس بگیرد. امّا حیره نتوانست او را پیدا كند.
21Then he asked the men of her place, saying, “Where is the prostitute, that was at Enaim by the road?” They said, “There has been no prostitute here.”

پس از چند نفر از مردانی كه در عناییم بودند پرسید: «آن زن فاحشهای كه اینجا در كنار جاده بود، كجاست؟»
آنها گفتند: «هیچ وقت فاحشهای اینجا نبوده است.»
22He returned to Judah, and said, “I haven’t found her; and also the men of the place said, ‘There has been no prostitute here.’”

او پیش یهودا برگشت و گفت: «من نتوانستم آن زن را پیدا كنم. مردان آنجا هم گفتند كه هیچوقت فاحشهای اینجا نبوده است.»
23Judah said, “Let her keep it, lest we be shamed. Behold, I sent this young goat, and you haven’t found her.”

یهودا گفت: «بگذار آن زن آنها را نگه دارد. ما نمیخواهیم كه مردم به ما بخندند. من كوشش كردم كه حق او را بدهم. ولی تو نتوانستی او را پیدا كنی.»
24It happened about three months later, that it was told Judah, saying, “Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the prostitute; and moreover, behold, she is with child by prostitution.” Judah said, “Bring her out, and let her be burnt.”

بعد از سه ماه شخصی به یهودا گفت: «عروس تو تامار فاحشگی كرده و آبستن شده است.» یهودا دستور داد تا او را بیاورند و بسوزانند.
25When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “By the man, whose these are, I am with child.” She also said, “Please discern whose are these—the signet, and the cords, and the staff.”

وقتی میخواستند او را بیاورند تا بسوزانند، برای پدر شوهرش پیغام فرستاد: «من از صاحب این چیزها آبستن شدهام ببین این مُهر و بند آن و عصا مال كیست؟»
26Judah acknowledged them, and said, “She is more righteous than I, because I didn’t give her to Shelah, my son.” He knew her again no more.

یهودا آنها را شناخت و گفت: «حق با اوست. من به قولی كه داده بودم وفا نكردم. من میبایستی او را به عقد پسرم شیله درمیآوردم.» یهودا بعد از آن دیگر با تامار همخواب نشد.
27It happened in the time of her travail, that behold, twins were in her womb.

هنگامی كه وقت زاییدن تامار رسید، معلوم شد كه او دوقلو آبستن است.
28When she travailed, one put out a hand, and the midwife took and tied a scarlet thread on his hand, saying, “This came out first.”

در وقت زایمان یكی از بچهّها دستش را بیرون آورد، قابله فوراً دستش را گرفت و نخ قرمزی دور آن بست و گفت: «این اول به دنیا آمد.»
29It happened, as he drew back his hand, that behold, his brother came out, and she said, “Why have you made a breach for yourself?” Therefore his name was called Perez. Perez means “breaking out.”

امّا بچّه دستش را به داخل كشید و برادرش اول به دنیا آمد. پس قابله گفت: «تو راه خود را شكافتی.» پس اسم او را فارص گذاشتند.
سپس برادرش با نخی كه به دور دستش بسته شده بود به دنیا آمد. اسم او را زارح گذاشتند.
30Afterward his brother came out, that had the scarlet thread on his hand, and his name was called Zerah. Zerah means “scarlet” or “brightness.”
