¹The burden of Damascus: “Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap.

¹ خداوند گفت: «دمشق دیگر یک شهر نخواهد بود. آن به توده‌ای ویران، بدل خواهد شد.

²The cities of Aroer are forsaken. They will be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

² شهرهای سوریه برای همیشه متروک خواهند ماند. آنها چراگاههای گاوان و گوسفندان می‌شوند و کسی نیست که آنها را بیرون کند.

³The fortress shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria. They will be as the glory of the children of Israel,” says Yahweh of Armies.

³ اسرائیل، بی‌دفاع خواهد بود و دمشق استقلال خود را از دست می‌دهد. آنهایی که در سوریه زنده می‌مانند، مانند مردم اسرائیل شرمسار خواهند بود. من، خدای متعال چنین گفته‌ام.»

⁴“It will happen in that day that the glory of Jacob will be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh will become lean.

⁴ خداوند گفت: «روزی می‌آید که عظمت اسرائیل به انتها خواهد رسید و ثروتش به فقر مبدّل خواهد شد.

⁵It will be like when the harvester gathers the wheat, and his arm reaps the grain. Yes, it will be like when one gleans grain in the valley of Rephaim.

⁵ اسرائیل مثل مزرعه‌ای خواهد شد که غلّه‌اش را درو کرده باشند و مثل دشت رفائیم بعد از برداشت محصول، لخت خواهد بود.

⁶Yet gleanings will be left there, like the shaking of an olive tree, two or three olives in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outermost branches of a fruitful tree,” says Yahweh, the God of Israel.

⁶ فقط تعداد کمی زنده می‌مانند، و اسرائیل مانند درخت زیتونی خواهد بود که زیتونهای آن را چیده باشند و فقط دو یا سه تا زیتون در شاخه‌های بالا، و چند عدد در شاخه‌های پایینی آن، هنوز باقیمانده باشد. من، خداوند، خدای اسرائیل این را گفته‌ام.»

⁷In that day, people will look to their Maker, and their eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel.

⁷ وقتی آن روز برسد، مردم برای کمک به سوی آفریدگار خود، خدای قدّوس اسرائیل روی می‌آورند.

⁸They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands; neither shall they respect that which their fingers have made, either the Asherim, or the incense altars.

⁸ دیگر آنها به قربانگاههایی که به دست خود ساخته‌اند توکّل نخواهند کرد و اعتمادی به ساخته‌های دست خود -‌مثل شمایل الههٔ اشره و جایگاه سوزاندن بخورها- نخواهند داشت.

⁹In that day, their strong cities will be like the forsaken places in the woods and on the mountain top, which were forsaken from before the children of Israel; and it will be a desolation.

⁹ وقتی آن روز برسد، شهرهای مستحکم ایشان متروک و ویران خواهند شد، مثل وقتی که مردم شهرهای حویان و اموریان در مقابل قوم اسرائیل شهرهای خود را ترک و فرار کردند.

¹⁰For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not remembered the rock of your strength. Therefore you plant pleasant plants, and set out foreign seedlings.

¹⁰ ای اسرائیل، خدایی را که تو را نجات می‌دهد و از تو مثل صخرهٔ محکم حمایت می‌کند فراموش کرده‌ای. در عوض برای خود باغچه‌های مقدّس‌ ساخته‌ای تا خدایان بیگانگان را پرستش کنی.

¹¹In the day of your planting, you hedge it in. In the morning, you make your seed blossom, but the harvest flees away in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

¹¹ امّا حتّی اگر گیاهان جوانه بزنند و شکوفه‌ بدهند، در همان صبحگاهی که آنها را کاشتی، هیچ محصولی برایت به بار نخواهند آورد. نصیب تو فقط زحمت و درد بی‌درمان خواهد بود.

¹²Ah, the uproar of many peoples, who roar like the roaring of the seas; and the rushing of nations, that rush like the rushing of mighty waters!

¹² ملّتهای قوی در تب و تابند و با صدایی شبیه به امواج دریا نعره می‌کشند.

¹³The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters: but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far off, and will be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.

¹³ ملّتها مانند امواج خروشان پیش می‌روند، امّا خداوند آنها را تنبیه می‌کند و آنها عقب‌نشینی می‌کنند. آنها مثل گرد و خاکی در دامنهٔ یک کوه یا کاهی در برابر گردباد به اطراف پراکنده می‌شوند. آنها هنگام غروب موجب وحشت هستند امّا در صبح اثری از آنها نیست. این است سرنوشت کسانی‌که سرزمین ما را غارت می‌کند.

¹⁴At evening, behold, terror! Before the morning, they are no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us, and the lot of those who rob us.

¹⁴ آنها هنگام غروب موجب وحشت هستند امّا در صبح اثری از آنها نیست. این است سرنوشت کسانی‌که سرزمین ما را غارت می‌کند.
