¹It happened in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

¹ وقتی آحاز پادشاه، پسر یوتام و نوهٔ عزیا، در یهودیه فرمانروایی می‌کرد، جنگ شروع شد. رصین، پادشاه سوریه و فِقَح، فرزند رملیا -‌پادشاه اسرائیل- به اورشلیم حمله کردند ولی نتوانستند آن را فتح کنند.

²It was told the house of David, saying, “Syria is allied with Ephraim.” His heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.

² وقتی این خبر که سربازان سوری وارد قلمرو اسرائیل شده‌اند به پادشاه یهودا رسید، او و تمام مردم از ترس مثل درختان بید در برابر باد به خود می‌لرزیدند.

³Then Yahweh said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you, and Shearjashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway of the fuller’s field.

³ خداوند به اشعیا گفت: «تو به همراه پسرت -‌شاریاشوب- به دیدن آحاز پادشاه برو. تو او را در کوچهٔ پارچه‌ بافان، در انتهای جوی آبی که از استخر بالایی جاری است خواهی یافت.

⁴Tell him, ‘Be careful, and keep calm. Don’t be afraid, neither let your heart be faint because of these two tails of smoking torches, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

⁴ به او بگو: هوشیار و آرام باش، نترس و نگران نباش، خشم رصین و سربازان سوری و فقح پادشاه از دود کُندهٔ نیم سوخته بیشتر نیست.

⁵Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have plotted evil against you, saying,

⁵ سوریه به اتّفاق اسرائیل و پادشاهان آن توطئه کرده‌‌اند

⁶“Let’s go up against Judah, and tear it apart, and let’s divide it among ourselves, and set up a king in its midst, even the son of Tabeel.”

⁶ آنها می‌خواهند با ایجاد ترس مردم را نسبت به خود متحیّر و یهودیه را اشغال کنند، و آن وقت پسر طبئیل را به تخت سلطنت بنشانند.

⁷This is what the Lord Yahweh says: “It shall not stand, neither shall it happen.”

⁷ «امّا من، خداوند متعال اعلام می‌کنم که چنین چیزی هرگز واقع نخواهد شد.

⁸For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years Ephraim shall be broken in pieces, so that it shall not be a people;

⁸ چرا؟ چون سوریه از پایتختش -‌دمشق- قویتر نیست و قدرت دمشق هم از قدرت رصین پادشاه بیشتر نمی‌باشد. امّا در مورد اسرائیل: در ظرف شصت و پنج سال چنان خُرد خواهد شد که دیگر چیزی به عنوان یک ملّت از آن باقی نماند.

⁹and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’”

⁹ اسرائیل از سامره پایتخت آن قویتر نیست، سامره هم از فقح پادشاه قویتر نیست. «اگر ایمان شما ناپایدار باشد، شما هم پایدار نخواهید بود.»

¹⁰Yahweh spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

¹⁰ خداوند پیام دیگری برای آحاز فرستاد و به او گفت:

¹¹“Ask a sign of Yahweh your God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.”

¹¹ «از خداوند -‌خدای خود- بخواه تا به تو علامتی بدهد، خواه آن علامت از دنیای مردگان باشد و خواه از اوج آسمانها.»

¹²But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, neither will I tempt Yahweh.”

¹² آحاز گفت: «من خدا را آزمایش نمی‌کنم و علامتی نخواهم خواست.»

¹³He said, “Listen now, house of David. Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God also?

¹³ اشعیا در جواب گفت: «بشنوید ای خاندان داوود، صبر و تحمّل مردم را از بین بردید، آن کافی نبود؟ و حالا می‌خواهید شکیبایی خدا را هم از بین ببرید؟

¹⁴Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. “Immanuel” means “God with us.”

¹⁴ پس در این صورت خداوند خودش به شما علامتی خواهد داد و آن این است که باکره- واژهٔ عبری که در اینجا بکار برده شده است، معادل «دختر جوانی» می‌باشد. این واژه در عبری اشاره دارد به هر دختری که آمادهٔ ازوداج می‌باشد. عبارت «باکره» مذکور در ا حامله شده پسری خواهد زایید که نامش عمانوئیل یعنی «خدا با ماست» خواهد بود.

¹⁵He shall eat butter and honey when he knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

¹⁵ تا وقتی‌که به سن بلوغ برسد و فرق نیکی و بدی را بداند غذای او شیر و عسل خواهد بود

¹⁶For before the child knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land whose two kings you abhor shall be forsaken.

¹⁶ قبل از فرا رسیدن آن روز، سرزمینهای آن دو پادشاهی که شما از آنها می‌ترسید، متروک خواهد شد.

¹⁷Yahweh will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.

¹⁷ «خداوند روزهایی را نصیب شما و قومتان و تمام خاندان سلطنتی خواهد کرد که بمراتب بدتر از زمان جدایی پادشاهی شمالی اسرائیل از یهودا خواهد بود. او پادشاه آشور را می‌آورد.

¹⁸It will happen in that day that Yahweh will whistle for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

¹⁸ «وقتی آن روز برسد، خداوند با سوت به مصریان علامتی خواهد داد و آنها مثل مگس از دورترین سواحل رود نیل خواهند آمد و آشوریان مثل زنبور سرازیر خواهند شد.

¹⁹They shall come, and shall all rest in the desolate valleys, in the clefts of the rocks, on all thorn hedges, and on all pastures.

¹⁹ آنها تمام وادیهای صعب‌العبور، غارها و صخره‌ها را پر می‌کنند و تمام خارزارها و چمنزارها را می‌پوشانند.

²⁰In that day the Lord will shave with a razor that is hired in the parts beyond the River, even with the king of Assyria, the head and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard.

²⁰ «وقتی آن روز برسد، خداوند کسی را از آن طرف رود فرات -‌یعنی امپراتور آشور- فرا می‌خواند و او با تیغش -‌مثل یک سلمانی‌- موی سر و بدن و ریش شما را از ته خواهد تراشید.

²¹It shall happen in that day that a man shall keep alive a young cow, and two sheep;

²¹ «در آن روز اگر یک زارع بتواند حتّی یک گوساله یا دو بُز خود را نجات دهد،

²²and it shall happen, that because of the abundance of milk which they shall give he shall eat butter: for everyone will eat butter and honey that is left in the midst of the land.

²² آنها آن‌قدر شیر می‌دهند که نیاز او را برطرف خواهند کرد. تعداد کمی که در سرزمین زنده می‌مانند، شیر و عسل کافی برای خوردن خواهند داشت.

²³It will happen in that day that every place where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silver shekels, shall be for briers and thorns.

²³ «در آن زمان تاکستانی، با هزار درخت انگور-به ارزش هزار تکّهٔ نقره- از بوته‌های خار و خلنگ پوشیده خواهد شد.

²⁴People will go there with arrows and with bow, because all the land will be briers and thorns.

²⁴ مردم با تیر و کمان برای شکار به آنجا می‌روند، چون تمام سرزمین پوشیده از بوته‌های خار و خلنگ خواهد بود. تمام تپّه‌هایی که محل کِشت گیاهان و محصولات بود اکنون پوشیده از خار است. فقط گاوها و گوسفندان می‌توانند در آن بچرند.»

²⁵All the hills that were cultivated with the hoe, you shall not come there for fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of sheep.”

²⁵ تمام تپّه‌هایی که محل کِشت گیاهان و محصولات بود اکنون پوشیده از خار است. فقط گاوها و گوسفندان می‌توانند در آن بچرند.»
